Bills weekend
So I decided to wait and let the stench of Green Bay dissipate before posting this thread. I seek the almighty wisdom of the planet.
Myself my older brother and younger brother are coming to town. Neither of them have ever been to a game at Arrowhead. Big props to George Blowfish! Thanks for the opportunity to sit in your seats! He's truly a stand up guy that could have sold those seats for a lot more. So this is your standard what to do in KC but leaning heavy on individual BBQ joints. Older bro is the grill master and shys away from big corporate chains. Current itinerary is. Friday fly in at 730ish pick up a rental car hit the liquor store and check in to the air b&b in Independence. We will probably want to pick up something quick to eat. (Bbq?) Saturday 1 pm stadium tour Meet 2 cousins for dinner we think the original Joe's location DT Sunday go to the game early and tailgate go to dinner after with different cousin and her husband maybe some more family?? Bbq probably Monday. Probably go see family in Topeka and Osage city ks. Tues day time ? Fly out late Tues So Sunday the air B&b has a pos BBQ and we cant do a real cook on it. we may pick something up to reheat or else our tailgate is going to be brauts and similar lame easy stuff. So looking for recommendations for food and things to do. We have some time to fill outside of the obligatory trip to the George Brett Statue. (Anyone want to meet up) I have a hobby auto shop so I'm fully versed in the different brands of antifreeze. If there is CP tailgate of any sort I'd love to meet some of you. I would really like to give my bro's a great trip.we have a gold parking pass so it looks like we come in gates 4 to 7 whatever that means. Tips on parking food entertainment are greatly appreciated. Both brothers are members here but they have even less posts than I do. Boise Chief |
Sounds like fun! Yeah, eat only BBQ while you are here. Plenty of time in life to eat other shit but if you are only here for a few days, hit up all the places. The thing is, none of the KC places that are worthwhile count as "big corporate chains". The closest is Jack Stack but that's still only located in KC. Hell, my company is buying a small building from Jack Fiorella (son of the original owner and current owner of Jack Stack) and Jack showed up by himself to give us a tour of the building. That's about as far from big corporate as you can get. Just avoid the stupid places like Dave's Famous or "KC" Masterpiece and you'll be fine.

We are hoping to hit at least 4 individual joints it may stretch to more if we pick up sandwiches Fri and something for tailgate on Sunday. I probably should have done a poll but I'm no rainman. If there are enough ideas I may do a gay day with Clay spin off thread. Who knows

If you're staying in Independence, make your first Friday lunch stop at Harp BBQ in Raytown. Not far from the stadium or Independence and IMO its the best in the entire city. And certainly not "corporate" or franchise BBQ.
Go for the brisket and if they have it, the blueberry white cheddar sausage. Thank me later. |
My brother and I are flying in the x-mas game , first time in KC and a first NFL game , my questions would be the same as OP but related holiday times/hours/activities and downtown without a rental car , sorry for derailing but maybe easier to just have in one , since I was planning to listing similar.

Friday we don't land until 815. Is there anything open until 10 or so between the airport and independence?

Yeah, Harp won't be open that late. But considering how close you'll be, you really ought to make that one of your stops. It's the tits. |

Ha I wanted to take the redeye that brought us in in the morning but was out voted. Fri may not happen it is pretty late for decent restaurants. Hopefully getting bags and the car go smoothly.

Go to Q39 where they will tell you that all Bills fans can get their order served in 13 seconds. This was great to watch the last time the Bills were in town and did not disappoint.
|
Ha that would be great. That is ammo forever what a soul crusher that game had to have been. We had some heart breakers back in the 13/3 seasons with Marty but not like that one.

Stevieray reminded me to go see the mural. That's a good one to add to the list.

Make sure to fart in Gblowfish's seats. It's tradition.

My favorite BBQ joints, in no particular order:

Ok starting to pack..
Kick off 43 degrees falling to mid 30's by the end. So it shouldn't be very cold. Do I need thermals probably need light gloves for the 2nd half. Anything obvious I'm missing? Blowfish told me the stadium is cashless. I assume vendors have card readers? Even the beer guys in the aisles? Any stadium food we need to not miss? |
PM Chief Ten Beers to advise you how many hand warmers to bring to the game, he’s a pro at that.
