He's been in his own head since Week 1. He's had to adjust how he plays RT after the league not targeting him for his first 4 years.

Funny how Lane Johnson can false start and line up wrong all he wants though.

Red Dawg 12-05-2023 01:38 PM

League leading. Good lord half to one guy? Mahomes is fighting a massive up hill battle this year. Penalties, wr suckage, drops. It's pathetic.

He had 15 penalties as a rookie and 11 the year before last. He's always been a heavily penalized player. And as of late it's been mostly holding penalties he's gotten not presnap penalties.

ChiTown 12-05-2023 01:42 PM

He's certainly the NFL Refs whipping boy when the Chiefs play. Some of it is legit, but GMAFB. They are absolutely targeting JT in every game

Balto 12-05-2023 01:51 PM

Was still our best option at a tackle signing soooooo what do you want?

DJay23 12-05-2023 01:53 PM

It was...funny (not sure if that's the word) when Collinsworth tried to compliment Jawaan in the GB game. Something like, "Since that first game when he was lining up wherever he wanted and getting a head start on every snap he's played much better."

When in fact it was Collinsworth pissing his pants about Taylor's alignment the first game of the season when everyone was watching prompting officiating crews to target him (as evidenced by Andy's trick in the JAX game).

Thanks Chris you disingenuous pustule.

I think an argument could be made that you sign someone cheaper at RT and invest some of that $$$ in w WR, but it is what it is.

Maybe. The Chiefs have adopted a strategy of prioritizing cap and picks to ensure Mahomes is protected. Hard to argue with that intent. They did also spend a 2nd rounder this offseason on a guy who is already our best WR.

Mahomes is having a ho hum season and he has nobody to blame but himself. It's like State Farm purchased his brain.

Jawaan means "unmasculine" in urdu

Every time I watch an Eagles game I cant help but think Jawaan is getting absolutely ****ed because Lane Johnson is writing a ****ing book on lining up too deep and getting early starts.

Yep Jawaan didn't make him throw his last two inexplicable picks...

Eleazar 12-05-2023 02:13 PM

There's an idea out there that Taylor is only getting pre-snap penalties, but he's got 8 pre and 7 post-snap penalties. He has 15 accepted penalties and the next highest o-lineman in the NFL has 10.

Taylor has not been flagged for illegal formation since the Bears game in week 3.

Yeah but that forced him to completely redo how he lined up and started. If hes 6 inches back and leaving when Lane does how many holding penalties are avoided? He's a speed type tackle, when you limit his start how much does that hinder the rest of the rep?

emaw1979 12-05-2023 02:22 PM

The NFL has ruined the man's career because of a horrible job announcing the Lions game. He's still being watched like a hawk and getting penalties for things others aren't at the same rate.

I agree. Keep mahomes healthy. I still think if Chris Jones would have signed the extension, we'd have signed hopkins.

All he has to do is stop getting false starts and stop committing holding penalties. Same expectations for him and everyone else. He's generally good when he's not getting flags.

I watch every Eagles game. Lane Johnson gets off super early and lines up far behind the center's belt line. Worse than what Taylor does. Never gets flagged.

I keep seeing Lane Johnson and other tackles do the exact same thing he was doing in the Lions game and not called. There are rules that Taylor has to play by that are different than the rest of the NFL lineman.

They didn't have what they considered to be a starting tackle at either spot.

They could have dicked around and ended up making one or two really desperation moves for tackles later in FA/draft that were even worse from an investment/fit KC offense. Orlando was a plan B move when it turned out silver dude really didn't want to play with KC. No guarantees KC would get Donavon Smith.

I think they also target Kelce for OPI to some extent. That OPI in the Packers' game was horrific.

LagunaSWana 12-05-2023 03:43 PM

He had 10 penalties in the first 4 games (including 5 in week 2 when he had a clear target on his back), and 6 in the last 8 games. If he's keeping Mahomes upright and healthy, I would say that 6 in 8 weeks is acceptable.

Skyy God 12-05-2023 04:52 PM

I don’t remember seeing a bunch of cases where he was flagged when he was innocent of the false start or the hold. It’s a discipline thing he just needs to clean up. He seems good otherwise.

I disagree. If not for the penalties he'd be touted as one of the best. He's been serviceable but the penalties are killer.

Yep, and Mahomes might be in the banged up category if we didn't sign him...

TribalElder 12-05-2023 07:36 PM

is he still tipping off defenses to if its run or pass or was that just part of his overall alignment issue.

way deep it's pass
up on the line its run

Yep. And let’s not forget that the Chiefs made a serious run at Trent Williams. Considered by many to be the best tackle in football. From what I remember, a last minute offer from the Niners is the only thing that kept him from coming to KC.

Isn't this when we ended up signing OBJ?

A Salt Weapon 12-05-2023 08:24 PM

If I was Taylor (and I’m surprised he hasn’t. ) I would cue up game film of every penalty he’s been called for. I would then line up game film of 95% of Lane Johnson’s plays that go unflagged. I would then cue up the most egregious holding that doesn’t get called. I would make that public every chance I had.

Every play where Mahomes leaves the pocket the DE throws their hands in the air begging for a flag

I’m not saying this one isn’t a hold. Just that its third time I’ve shown them throw their hand up to get the hold call. When Lane Johnson does it every play of every game: no call

Maihlata got away with it at least twice last night two that I saw. The fact is tackles are going off of cadence. They cant afford to look at the ball, then inevitably theyre going a little early knowing how the cadence goes.

-King- 12-19-2023 02:24 PM

The difference between Taylors and Lanes false start penalty rates is 2 more flags all season. I don't get the teeth gnashing between the two. The issue is that they both have to do it and now we're stuck in the position where we're mad they call it 0.8% of the time even though he actually false starts damn near every snap.

It's so dumb the NFL has allowed the two of them to get to this point.
