Best Christmas movies nomination thread
It’s Christmas movie season so let’s see which is the best. Nominate Christmas movies here and we will have a head to head tournament to determine which movie can achieve the honor of best Christmas movie according to CP.
I’ll seed them based on domestic box office and adjust for inflation. Go! |
I’ll start with what I assume will be one of the favorites to win.
Christmas Vacation. |

Miracle on 34th Street. My personal favorite closely followed by the original A Christmas Carol with Alastair Sim.
|
Die Hard
|
It's a wonderful life
Love Actually |
Tough to beat "A Christmas Carol" with Scrooge.
The comparisons for what defines a good movie in the first place. If you are looking for a the Christmas "Spirit" it is not Home Alone, Die Hard, nor Christmas Vacation. All are great movies and fun to watch but little in the "Spirit". |
Lethal Weapon
|
Elf is our go to these days.

Which Christmas Carol release? I know of at least two with that title. |

Die Hard is absolutely a Christmas movie.
Also, Home Alone. |
Home Alone.
You know that cilantro gene that makes people think it tastes like soap? That's me with Christmas Vacation. Just a dreadfully unfunny movie that everyone else seems to love. |
Not a big Will Ferrell fan, but put me down for Elf. Such a good movie.
|
Scrooged

How the Grinch Stole Christmas with Jim Carrey.
|
Are you all secretly my wife? If so I need to GTFO the pictures forum.
Not a Christmas movie guy, myself. |
Office Christmas Party. Not for kids, but a nice change from the usual Christmas stuff. Dumb but funny.

No bad santa yet? For shame.

Yeah, nothing original in our house. The kids usually watch Home Alone 3-4 times every holiday season and we watch Christmas Vacation a couple times as well. And then I always tend to squeeze in Bad Santa as well. I'm also a fan of The Family Stone, even though it makes me feel like a girl saying that.

Family - A Christmas Story
Comedy - Christmas Vacation Adults - Bad Santa |
here's a fringe (but hilarious) christmas movie: Best Friends (with ryan reynolds)

Trading Places

I like Christmas Story, but does it have to be on for 24 hours straight? A Tim Allen movie shouldn't be anywhere near this list. Die Hard is an action movie with Christmas elements sprinkled in. Merry Xmas. |
1. A Christmas Story
2. Home Alone 3. It’s A Wonderful Life |

I think Christmas/New Year is a special time for family, friends and reflection. All of the above are great entertaining movies: action and comedy in the setting around Christmas time...not a true "Christmas" movie. It's a Wonderful life comes close, but quite long (I about fell asleep). JMO |
Die Hard
|
You know what's overrated as **** and doesn't need to be on as much as it is?
A Christmas Story. |
Give me something new, not worn & comfortable
|
I watch more classic SNL Christmas specials and old Office Christmas episodes over the movies anymore. Home Alone 3 was discussed on the weekend update on one of the ones I watched recently. Norm was a legend.
http://funny115.com/norm/pic458.png “Twentieth Century Fox has announced that Macaulay Culkin will NOT be hired to star in Home Alone 3. A studio spokesman said that it was nothing personal, but with Culkin now sixteen years of age, the only way to keep him in the film would be to make the character reeruned.” |
Elf
Home Alone |
I really enjoyed the 8-bit Christmas as far as new ones go.

1. Christmas Vacation
2. Christmas Story 3. The Santa Claus 4. Home Alone 5. Elf Some dark horses & lesser known flicks that are hilarious are Four Christmases with Vince Vaughn and Christmas With The Kranks with Tim Allen. Hilarious movies. |
The comments are amusing. As all opinions are suppose to be different. That is what is great in that we are all different.
Everyone thinks about Christmas a little different yet the same. In the end, all mentioned are good movies. Did I mention the word different at all? |
Just to be different than the traditional ones that I agree with that are the best....
I'll Be Home for Christmas (Anything with a young Jessica Biel has to be good) The Santa Clause |

A Christmas Story is a boomer movie that is overplayed. It's annoying that it's on all day on X mas bc my boomer parents made me watch the shit out of it that day every year.
Christmas vacation is good but it's not as funny as people make it out to be. I feel like Home Alone and Elf (20 years old this year) have both aged incredibly well and will continue to age well as the years go on. Also **** yeah to Trading Places! I love that movie |

Polar Express, on Christmas Eve.
|
Klaus (2019)
|
Love Actually needs to be confined to the depths of hell.
Die Hard is a Christmas movie, doesn't matter what Bruce says. Trading Places is a New Years' Eve movie. |
We go every year to the KC Rep Theater to see their production of A Christmas Carol and every year it's excellent.
Even though it's goofy, I always liked Jingle All The Way. |
It's a Wonderful Life
Die Hard Christmas Vacation A Christmas Story was better when I was a kid. The film has a Forrest Gump type replay value for me these days. |
Bad Santa
|
|
Here Cumz Santa

I’ve always enjoyed how you can pick out so many of your own family members in that movie. |

For new movies Spirited on Amazon is pretty good. You have to like Ryan Reynolds and Will Ferrel though. If you like them you will probably like the movie, if not you probably won’t like it.
|
A second nomination for, It’s a Wonderful Life.
Also love, Elf. Isn’t Gremlins a Christmas time story? |

Nightmare Before Christmas
|
Violent Night. Finally saw this on Amazon. Wasn't expecting anything out of it but it has made my list going forward. Definitely not a family movie but seeing Santa basically be John McClane was kind of awesome.

https://media.tenor.com/oOWZRAfUtPYA...ans-gruber.gif Die Hard in the 1 spot for me. Home Alone and Christmas Vacation battle back and forth between the two and three spots. And then there is a whole host of others jumbled up after that, from Bad Santa, to Fred Clause, Elf, the original Miracle on 34th Street, White Christmas, It’s A Wonderful Life and several of the Christmas Carol renditions. Of those the George C. Scott, Muppets, and Bill Murray in Scrooged are probably my favorites. |
