Christmas movies tournament FINAL FOUR
 

Here we go with the Final Four! I don't think anyone would be too surprised with the remaining movies even though some pretty big fan favorites have been defeated. Home Alone actually had the toughest Elite 8 match with A Christmas Story while the rest enjoyed pretty easy victories to get here. These are going to be some tough votes though.

We will have, 1. Home Alone vs 3. Christmas Vacation and then, 3. It's a Wonderful Life vs 2. Elf.

I've only seen 1&3 so I'll go with Home Alone

You are really missing out. All of these are great.

I feel like i tried to watch Elf back in the day but found it annoying and turned it off. Maybe I'll give it another chance and watch it with my kid tonight.

Well having Home Alone pitted against Christmas Vacation was tough. That's like my childhood favorite versus my adult favorite, so I had to go with Christmas Vacation.

Elf over It's a Wonderful Life was easy.

There needs to be a re-seeding because Home Alone vs Christmas Vacation is the championship match-up.

I realize that I'm not a big Christmas movie guy, but I don't feel like an all-time Christmas movie should be associated with Will Ferrell, Randy Quaid, or Macauley Culkin.

I re-watched Christmas Vacation recently and maybe I'm just getting old, but I thought it pretty much sucked. Over the top antics that appeals mostly to adolescents. Maybe if I was watching with a bunch of children, it would have been fun to see their reactions. Otherwise, it's a hard no for me.

It's a Wonderful Life is boring as hell. A Christmas movie shouldn't put me to sleep just thinking about having to watch it.

There's some truth this. I watched and waited for the "shitter's full" scene though because that still stands up.

Home Alone has some great lines:

Buzz McCallister: "No, for three reasons: A, I'm not that lucky. Two, we use smoke detectors and D, we live on the most boring street in the whole United States of America, where nothing even remotely dangerous will ever happen. Period."

It is a Wonderful Life should not lose to Elf.

Never got the appeal of Elf.

Christmas Vacation is the most relatable movie... anyone who has a family gathering during the holidays can relate to it.

I did not even remember Home Alone plot even took place during Christmas.

Helluva memorable Christmas movie that one is, yeah boy howdy.

Literally the entire plot revolves around it being Christmas. It’s not the poll’s fault you have the intelligence of a pubic louse.

Yeah, he had to have “watched” it while he was asleep to not remember the Christmas mentions, imagery or music in practically every scene.

I can’t say as though I’ve ever had any kind of real interaction with him, so I’ll defer to you on this.

“A, 2, D” is one of my favorite jokes from the movie. Simple but effective. I laugh every time.

No. I mentioned it in the favorite Christmas movie thread, but not as my favorite, so it either didn’t count or was just overlooked because I might have been the only person to mention it.

And this right here is why Trading Places needed to advance further than it did...

I am honestly quite surprised Elf might get beat. It’s a Wonderful Life is a great movie also but I just thought it wouldn’t have as much exposure and popularity here.

In Christmas Vacation we are supposed to root for Chevy Chase's character but I just can't. He's an annoying douche who treats people like garbage throughout the movie.

He doesn't seem to have any redeeming qualities about him and is painful to watch.

That's because he's not acting. He's just being Chevy Chase, and Chevy Chase is cringeworthy.

I never understood why Chevy Chase was a celebrity, and he's remarkably unlikeable whenever I've seen him interviewed.

Huh? he loves his family to death and puts in a swimming pool for them, then buys Christmas for Eddies family... Margo and Todd deserve to be treated like crap

Christmas Vacation for the WIN!

Surprising come from behind by It's A Wonderful Life. I was prepared to vote for Elf in the championship. I have no problem voting for It's A Wonderful Life, though. I like Christmas Vacation, but, IMO, It's A Wonderful Life is a classic that teaches the importance of what really matters.

Yes and then he kills himself for failing to rape, and an angel tells him he can't get into Heaven yet because he has more raping to do. Then he comes back to life, rapes everyone in the town, and gets his angel wings. It's a classic.

They say that every time a bell rings, an angel has just raped someone.

It's one of many cases in this tournament where I strongly suspect it all depends on your age. I'm honestly not sure I've ever even seen It's a Wonderful Life. I don't really have much interest in old flicks.

And speaking of Community, while it's not a movie (yet), it has one of my favorite Christmas episodes: Abed's Uncontrollable Christmas.
