You only do this if there is the belief that both those jobs are career killers.

Washington I can see that, but Seattle is not a career killer.

If I'm Washington I'd do everything in my power to get Johnson.

This is a year they can get a franchise qb and a good coach to develop him.

Washington with a new era of ownership is not a career killer anymore.

Also according to Schefter he has an outrageous asking price that had some teams spooked.

So Ben Johnson is playing this interesting.

They have a good defense, roster is loaded with young talent, I mean obviously they don't have a franchise QB but that isn't a bottom barrel roster.

Why do the Redsk..Commanders want this guy when they've got future HOF HC Eric Bieniemy in the building?

Washington is projected to have like $84 million in salary cap space, #2 overall pick to draft a QB... it's an opportunity to build from scratch with new ownership in place.

I remember Gary Kubiak doing that when he was with the Broncos. I think Ben Johnson might be making a mistake by not taking the Commanders opportunity. Seems like the new owner is solid from what I've seen. And with the #2 pick you have the chance to develop a franchise QB that could lead to a long and successful tenure.

Same ownership group owns the 76ers and Devils. Devils have sucked. 76ers are the Marty Schottenheimer of the NBA.

He's a little bit overrated to me. Sure he has nice play designs but if you give any OC an offense with 6 first rd picks and lottery outliers like Amon Ra-St Brown and Sam La Porta then they're likely gonna have success.

They're more loaded on offense than the 49ers IMO

If his plan is to take a HC job next year... he's not going to find a "perfect" opening.

I think I heard this is Campbell's last year of his deal, so he may be waiting out that next year.

Yeah I was gonna say, if the Lions pull an Eagles next year or Goff regresses or they get hit by injuries, his name isn't going to be what it is right now. With his age he should still have a chance down the road but no guarantee his asking price will be able to go up.

They have some building blocks Devon Witherspoon is a high end young CB.

After this year I have to imagine they'd extend him. But you're right if they get back to the playoffs and blow it because Campbell wants to play Madden he'll probably get some heat.

Personally I think it was dumb to do that you never know what might happen next season. Campbell even acknowledged that in his press conference that there is no guarantee they will make it back. There is a difference between being the hunter vs being the hunted.

There is zero chance that his stated reason of wanting to win a Super Bowl with the Lions is the real reason. That just sounds better than "I'm not ready" or "Commanders and Seahawks both suck".

Kafka went from the hottest OC, future Head Coach, in the world last off season... a lot can change in a year. If the lions come back to earth, he might regret this move.

That's why taking a job that isn't set up right can **** you over.

The real quandary is Mike Vrabel and his clear availability. You would believe a team down on its luck would be all for having him as a HC.

Hopefully they go after McDonald from the Ravens.

Could be he is not ready but both of those jobs don't suck especially the Commanders with new owners and no limits on money.

He'll be the Cowboys coach in 2025.

Connor Embree is a much better candidate anyway

Don't get why he wouldn't go to Washington. New owner, good surrounding offensive talent, can draft Drake Maye or Jayden Daniels.

It still comes down to how good a pick they make with the 2nd pick of the draft. That pick will last the first 3-4 years of your contract if he is bad.

Sounds kind of arrogant. Would be funny if his strategy backfires on him. Seattle seems like a pretty good job. I figure Geno Smith is not much different than Jared Goff.

But maybe the guy is hoping for a different job with a more talented quarterback. Buffalo or Kansas City could be open at some point in the near future.

Maybe he just feels that he isn't ready yet. I mean 24 is pretty young for sure to take a head coach gig. It's a risk on his part but only he knows his capabilities at this point.
