The Steelers did what now?!?!

<blockquote class="twitter-tweet"><p lang="en" dir="ltr">The <a href="https://twitter.com/hashtag/Steelers?src=hash&amp;ref_src=twsrc%5Etfw">#Steelers</a> are expected to hire former <a href="https://twitter.com/hashtag/Falcons?src=hash&amp;ref_src=twsrc%5Etfw">#Falcons</a> coach Arthur Smith as their offensive coordinator, per sources. <br><br>Smith had a top run game as <a href="https://twitter.com/hashtag/Titans?src=hash&amp;ref_src=twsrc%5Etfw">#Titans</a> OC before heading to Atlanta three years ago. Proceeds to cross all of the Steelers players off fantasy football draft board.

pugsnotdrugs19 01-30-2024 12:36 PM

He did a good job in TEN… but that might have been all Henry, their OL, and AJ Brown.

staylor26 01-30-2024 12:36 PM

Let's pretend he wasn't a damn good OC in Tennessee.

Bearcat 01-30-2024 12:37 PM

Gotta establish the run.

Well at this moment about 1% of people like this hire.

FloridaMan88 01-30-2024 12:38 PM

He's an upgrade over Matt Canada.

Over course Jimmy Raye would be an upgrade over Canada.

Can I pretend to acknowledge he ran an offense out of the stone age in Atlanta despite having a really nice group of young weapons?

And how complicated is 'hand Derrick Henry the rock' as an offensive scheme?

This hire is amazing news if you are the Steelers backup TE, or 3rd string RB.

I prefer James America personally.

KC Hawks 01-30-2024 12:44 PM

Can't wait to see what George Pickens will do when he's not targeted all game.

It's entirely possible that you get Arthur Smith the play caller from Atlanta as opposed to Tennessee, but it's also possible that he goes right back to being a good OC

My point is more about the revisionist history from Mecca. He likes to pretend that he was just given a HCing job for no good reason.

DJJasonp 01-30-2024 01:02 PM

LOL......goodbye pickens, and any other stud offensive personnel.

Load up stock in TDs to 3rd string TEs and WR4s....

Marcellus 01-30-2024 01:03 PM

Isn't this the guy who didn't know how to use Bijon Robinson?

Nah but he absolutely destroyed the value of a bunch of offensive skill guys taken with top 10 picks.

Why the **** are you drafting Bijan Robinson if you are gonna give Tyler Algeir a similar amount of touches?

I don't disagree, but when he was just an OC, that was never an issue. Quite the opposite. There's reason to believe he'll do the same now that he's just an OC again and failed miserably.

I dunno Mike Tomlin seems pretty ok with letting OC's do really stupid shit without saying anything to them.

Oh Snap 01-30-2024 01:18 PM

Shit I wondered of they still had todd haley

Shoes 01-30-2024 01:41 PM

Arthur Smith is a bit of an enigma; overachieved with the Titans, was a large part of their success and seemingly resurrected Tannehill's career. Flip side is Smith then went on to underachieve with the Falcons and valued players like Allegier and Jonnu Smith over top 10 picks Bijan and Pitts. Never was able to really utilize the talent that Atlanta has accumulated, the Falcons should be a pretty fun offensive team albeit with not the best talent under center.

More puzzling is that Smith didn't have a problem leaning on Henry/Hopkins in Tennessee. Some of the blame could be with Pitts/Bijan/London but who knows. Interesting hire for Pittsburgh, I can envision Pickens asking for a trade sometime next year.

FloridaMan88 01-30-2024 01:45 PM

Arthur Smith must really love the grind of working in football.

He could easily live off the FedEx trust fund, but he would rather call plays and gameplan for Kenny Pickett/Mason Rudolph.

Dunerdr 01-30-2024 02:43 PM

Pickett is ****ed. This guy literally refused to use his talent to save his own skin.

Red Dawg 01-30-2024 02:51 PM

Harris a crap jag RB.

New World Order 01-30-2024 02:53 PM

A heavy running game???

Ew!

Nah - he's getting traded.

RealSNR 01-30-2024 02:53 PM

Offense was very unremarkable in Tennessee. Good receivers, Alex Smith type QB, and of course prime Derrick Henry.

No evidence he can work with QBs, and that’s what the Steelers REALLY need.

Trash ass hire.

Buehler445 01-30-2024 02:55 PM

He'll do better under Tomlin, because he doesn't let shit become a complete ****face clown show, pretty good infrastructure there.

He might well have a career resurrection. But If I were a Shitsburgh fan I'd be drinking hard tonight.

"What the Steelers are about" hasn't won them shit despite HoF talent in key spots for about 15 years.

Dumpster fire hire.

Tomlin's smart. You don't seek out some hot shot genius offensive mind and hire your replacement. You seek out failed coaches from the scrap heap (Tod Haley) and blame them for mediocre seasons.

LMAO You sure about that? That offense was ****ing pathetic under Canada and it persisted for YEARS

He didn't have Hopkins. He leaned plenty on Henry.

OnTheWarpath15 01-30-2024 05:46 PM

They should trade up for Marvin Harrison and then not use him like he did with Bijan.

Sorry, Allen Robinson needs his snaps Marvin.

OnTheWarpath15 01-30-2024 05:48 PM

Cordarrelle Patterson's ATL contract voids next month, sorry 'bout it Najee and Jaylen but y'all about to get ****ed.
