Super Bowl 58 Mic'd Up
LMAO Tayshaun Gipson says Mahomes "is just regular, bro, and we're going to make his a$$ look regular." The same guy who dropped an easy INT in the NFCCG a few years back.
<blockquote class="twitter-tweet"><p lang="en" dir="ltr">49ers lack of respect for Patrick Mahomes - shocking!!! Nick Bosa - "This is not very fun."
I wonder what he said when Hardman walked into the end zone. |

Those assholes. Mahomes is going to be pissed.
After the interception, those dumbshits are talking trash......He's just a regular QB! We are going out there and make him look like a regular QB. Wonder how they feel now? We need the meme ASAP |
I get the reaction to Gipson, but it's not like he was saying that stuff at the podium or to the fans. He was just trying to hype his guys up. It didn't work, but I don't blame him for saying it.
|
Love the Travis vs Ward clip.
|
I was listening to KNBR on the drive home and one fool calls and it went on a rant lighting up the coach blaming him for not going for it on fourth down, knowing that Mahomes is on the other side and lighting him up for taking the ball first etc. yada yada yada what a bunch of pussies
|
Hey Gipson, Hardman made you his bitch

We don't have any historical data to get a feel for the actual probabilities, but it's likely gonna be somewhere between 40-60% probabilities for either approach. I still think kicking is the way to go, but it's not the 30-70% variation people are acting like it is. |
Quote:
Giving Mahomes the ball with a chance to win the SB with a TD is not factored into those stats. Playoff Mahomes is a totally different beast and have no idea how you can factor in "Playoff Mahomes" into a number or percentage? But, I know I'd put my money on Playoff Mahomes. |

In my opinion, the 9ers' fatal flaw was kicking the FG, not taking the ball first. |

Goddamn guys - will you EVER learn? These dudes have rabbit ears. They always have. Mahomes and Kelce take notes. Constantly. And they are going to use those to fuel them. "Mahomes is regular" is one thing - that's the kind of stuff Pat will internalize and use to motivate him. But man "Everything about being in SF is better than KC" is just a no-go, Charvarius. Because a guy like Kelce is going to use that to motivate EVERYONE. He's going to take that as a slight to every single one of his teammates and coaches. I think Mahomes knows he has a bit of that Jordan pettiness where he makes mountains out of molehills to fire himself up. But g'damn man, you don't call out their organization, coaches or teammates like that because those dudes will make it their life's mission to feed it to you. Kelce wanted Ward to know he heard that shit and that he was going to remind him of it. |

I understand what you’re saying. It’s like a “We just made God bleed. We can do this.” but.. to say Mahomes is a regular QB? lol Shades of Mccleon’s “Tom Brady.. overrated” on the sidelines of their Super Bowl. It’s just doing too much. Quote:
Quote:
You also get the benefit of resting your defense who was just on the field to end the game (though I know Shanahan says that didn’t factor into his decision). There are pros and cons to either situation. I’m glad they chose to receive but don’t blame Shanny there at all. |
How many times did Elway do that to us?
Crush our souls like we did to Bosa. I know EXACTLY how he feels. |

It's never a good idea to give the other team, especially Mahomes, the luxury of another down if the need it. But, I get what they may have been thinking. |

I actually would have heavily considered going for it on 4th down if I were the 9r's. If the 9r's don't get the TD, and the Chiefs have the ball inside their own 10 yard line, the Chiefs would have had a completely different mentality on offense at that point. They are probably playing a little defense on offense, and they're certainly not going for 4th and 1 inside their own 35 yd line. I completely understand why the 9r's kicked the FG, but you could make a pretty solid case for going for it as well, especially when you didn't need a TD on that 4th down play, because a 1st down was still available.

Quote:
The 49ers just failed to stop the Chiefs on a game tying drive. The clock was running out, so the Chiefs kicked a field goal to force OT. It was highly probable that Mahomes would do the same thing in OT. If ture, that would eliminate any possible advantage of taking the ball first. |

More Mic'd up stuff:
Bill Vinovich - 49ers need to come up with the best play in the book now. You don't want to give the ball back to Mahomes obviously <blockquote class="twitter-tweet"><p lang="en" dir="ltr">Biggest snap of the game, and Spags dialed up a beauty <a href="https://twitter.com/insidetheNFL?ref_src=twsrc%5Etfw">@InsideTheNFL</a>: Super Bowl Mic'd Up starts NOW on <a href="https://twitter.com/TheCW?ref_src=twsrc%5Etfw">@TheCW</a> <a href="https://t.co/gHgTRqa7XK">pic.twitter.com/gHgTRqa7XK</a></p>— NFL Films (@NFLFilms) <a href="https://twitter.com/NFLFilms/status/1757570352622825808?ref_src=twsrc%5Etfw">February 14, 2024</a></blockquote> <script async src="https://platform.twitter.com/widgets.js" charset="utf-8"></script> |

Where numbers are concerned, two-point conversions have been successful about 47.5% of the time that they’ve been attempted since 2015 i.e., roughly half of the extra point kick conversion rate which sits at 95%
https://en.as.com/nfl/what-is-the-tw...nd-the-play-n/ So, basically it's a coin flip on if you make the 2 point conversion. You expect Mahomes in that situation has a better chance than most. I get the logic of getting the ball first for the 3rd possession, it doesn't take the QB on the other side of the field into account or them going for 2. I wish the Chief's players didn't tell them what their plan was just in case we get into that situation in the future. |

The very fact that there's a real debate over this and that it depends on the circumstances of the game tells you that the NFL got this right as no side has a clear advantage based on the outcome of the coin flip. |
So if your mentality is to take the ball first so you get it third and can win in sudden death … wouldn’t that then mean that you:
1) use all 4 downs to score a TD 2) go for 2 when you do? That’s the only way you’re guaranteed to get it third. Of course, if you don’t score or miss the 2 pointer, you’ve made it much easier for the other team to win… |

All of Buffalo. |
Quote:
The glare from all those SB trophies blinded me to this fact. |
Quote:
I can see still kicking the extra point and putting the pressure on the other team to make a tough decision, but you still have to be aggressive on offense to put the other offense under more pressure. They were basically assuming they could hold Mahomes to a FG. |
Quote:
True. Immediately after the game ended their fan base started debating if the new OT rules were unfair and suggesting changes. Basically another version of the Chiefs won so the rules are bad. |

Warner basically called Kelce soft around the 6:30 mark talking to Bosa. Said he isn’t built to deal with being chipped. These guys really did underestimate the Chiefs. |

2nd half, 91 yards and 22 points ROFL Chiefs just needed the Niners to get tired. Then the Chiefs advantage in strategy could take over. |
