TwistedChief 03-07-2024 07:46 PM

If anyone wanted to see a guy who took less than his market value to be on the Chiefs, this is your Exhibit A.

DCTwister 03-07-2024 07:47 PM

**** yes.

smithandrew051 03-07-2024 07:47 PM

Sign Jones and our defense won’t be significantly worse than last year.

Maybe not top 2-3 but easily top 5-10.

Holy shit! What an incredible deal for a guy of his quality as a coverage backer that also plays effectively downhill on blitzes.

I thought he would get 10-12m per…getting him at 6m is insane!

Let’s gooooo

srvy 03-07-2024 07:49 PM

This is wonderful. He is a real good linebacker and a great teammate. I guess its bye to Willie Gay.

mr. tegu 03-07-2024 07:49 PM

I know he did the one year deal to chase the ring for wasn’t it like $6 million? I’m pleasantly surprised we got him at this price. Also probably indicates as a family they enjoyed being here.

There has to be some typo in that report, right?

That’s a “I only care about my football legacy and superbowl rings” type of deal.

Nice. Glad to see this dude stay here. Dumbass bolts let a really good player walk and we benefit

Wisconsin_Chief 03-07-2024 07:50 PM

He wanted to be a Chief, plain and simple. Absolutely love this MFer. He was born to play LB for Spags.

Weird situation. He couldn't find much of a market last year, so took just under $3M for a 1 year deal with the Chiefs. Maybe the prospect of that happening again made this deal too much to pass up. It is, after all, still life-changing money that can set him and his family up to live comfortably and retire on. And it's on a team where he has a role and fits perfectly.

pugsnotdrugs19 03-07-2024 07:52 PM

Bolton and Tranquill are actually gonna play together in the nickel. Amazing duo. LFG.

Also that price is perfect.

He clearly loves being part of a great team and he backed it up with a team-friendly contract instead of making crazy demands like so many other players in sports. Gotta tip your cap to Drue!

Basileus777 03-07-2024 07:54 PM

It's decent money for his position, but I don't think they ever want to go back to having a bottom of barrel lber corp. They'll try to keep Bolton too.

He played amazing for us last season. The guy was on a prove-it deal, proved it in spades, realized he loved playing for KC, and wanted to stick around. I think the whole "this guy will take a discount to play with a winner" is massively overblown, but this is REALLY it, in a position of need, in a crucial offseason, with a lot of holes to fill on the defense.

Losing Willie Gay (whom I love as a player, of course) is just business as usual after a signing like this.

ForeverIowan 03-07-2024 08:21 PM

Before he signed with the Chiefs he said he faced a similar decision committing to Notre Dame. Go to Purdue or Indiana for a guaranteed role or go compete for a spot at Notre Dame. This fricken dude is just built different. He will take a little less $ to compete for Super Bowls. LFG!

This is about what you’d expect him to get

That was a super bargain signing to begin with.

This is absolutely not what you’d expect him to get on the open market given the level of his play.

TambaBerry 03-07-2024 08:30 PM

I'm not sure it was a steal probably what his market would have been. Great signing either way.

He probably should've gotten at least 4mm before.

He now should've gotten 8mm.

That's a guy signing with the Chiefs before he even fully tests his market.

I don't understand why you'd even debate that. Unless you think there are middle LBers like Tremaine Edmunds at 18mm/yr who are multiples better?

This isn't just a Gay replacement. This guy makes losing Bolton next year more palatable. It's a huge signing for flexibility in a number of ways.

Frank Clark was massively overpaid, and he was acquired via trade instead of free agency. I would go with Jet McKinnon, Drue Tranquill, Mitch Schwartz, Joe Thuney, Mike Pennel, and Damien Williams as my favorites.
