First of all, was the captain drunk? And was that bridge made from paper mache? Looks weak as piss.

That bridge is the only way to bypass Baltimore if you are traveling north or south. |
Two survivors so far, one reportedly uninjured.
|
This is downright crazy.

If that happened in rush hour.... been hundreds go into that freezing water if they survive the fall. |
That’s my nightmare. I hate driving over long bridges like this.
|
Horrifying.

There were several times when vehicles started on to the bridge, and I was thinking "oh shit, they are not going to make it"! Hopefully the construction crew numbers were low. |
Hmmm

The bridge collapse was just a reenactment of Lamar Jackson in the AFC championship game.

Crazy shit. If the fall doesn't kill the folks, falling into all sorts of twisted metal certainly will. |

This is awful.. Looking forward to see what exactly happened on that ship.. Criminal charges maybe coming…
|
I HATED driving over that bridge. I tried to avoid it every chance I had when driving from property to property unless no other option.
We have a lot of shitty bridges in this country. Piss poor infrastructure. East Coast and Midwest have a ton of steel garbage we all drive over daily. |

It would be very difficult to restore everything in that short amount of time. I would assume they lost main propulsion as they would've lost all supporting auxiliaries . They would lose hydraulic steering as well. I believe that ship was just drifting. |

When the mpls bridge collapsed, the one thing it had going for it was the low water level. save a few people, and a bus. But the drop.....another oof. And who ever said it...yes, there are a lot of shitty bridges in this country. The term used in MPLS was 'functionally deficient' |
Imagine being on that bridge in your vehicle and seeing it begin it's slow collapse and know you had no ability to get off. That's awful.

That’s awful.
**** me. I guess there is a benefit to living out here in the desert hellscape. |
I don’t even know what to say. How something like that could happen is beyond me. It just sucks for anyone who was on that bridge at the time. From the little I saw it does look like there were cars that were sent into the river.
|
No idea how the **** that’s possible. Some sort of major **** up by that ship.
Something out of a movie. |
even early morning, in a metro area, there had to be a lot of people on that bridge

Would kind of like to hear a nerdy breakdown of the physics involved here. It looks like such a slow-moving boat. Like, can't I just reach out my foot and give it a little love-tap to stop it? But obviously it's basically a floating island of weight. Really makes you think how many times per day a similar ship goes under a similar bridge and everybody on the bridge has their lives in the hands of an unknown crew they will never even know existed.
|
Wow, that sucks. I have been over that bridge at least a dozen times myself. It's bad enough it happened in the first place, but glad it didn't happen around 5:30PM.

You can follow the ships track on a maritime tracking tool and it was acting erratically. https://www.marinetraffic.com/en/ais...39.236/zoom:14 Bottom line is there should have been a fleet of tugs pulling this ship and its moronic captain out of harms way. |

Some time last year I took a break from watching the First 48 murder mystery type shows before bed and watched Disasters At Sea which is like a 3 season documentary of shit going terribly wrong on big boats
Lot of these ships get sold and redesigned/repurposed with some sketchy ass engineering, but that usually just entails them sinking and not colliding with something Will be interesting to see what comes out of this during the investigation. Just terrible timing, almost unbelievable |

For those who know the area, how much will the loss of this bridge impact people locally? It's gonna take years to get it replaced, and I have to imagine it's gonna cause a giant cluster**** in the surrounding area.

Maryland governor already stating a preliminary investigation determined it was an accident
I'd imagine it should be known fairly quickly what happened due to personal interviews and data recorders unlike a sunken ship with no survivors |

Someone may have already stated this but they are starting to say the ship lost power and that's why they couldn't prevent it from hitting the bridge

I just heard the ship lost power. Crazy!
|
I noticed smoke start pouring out of the stack when they try to crank the beast back up.
|
My expert opinion? I bet the ship lost power. Maybe even more than once.
|
The ship wasn't running like it should have, just like the Ravens in the AFC Championship.

Just read there were 20 construction workers filling potholes on the bridge at the time. They also estimate there were about 20 cars on the bridge at the time.
