RIP Lou Gossett Jr

One of my favorites has passed. Dude worked his ass off and was extraordinarily prolific. Too many movies and shows to even list... But for me, I'll never forget him from the Roots television mini-series, Officer and a Gentlemen, and maybe a little corny, but Diggstown. Cornier yet, his turn in Iron Eagle always stood out, and kinda made that piece of crap legit simply by his presence. See ya around big man...

Yep. One of the first things I thought of was Officer and a Gentleman. He was fantastic in that.

siberian khatru 03-29-2024 09:25 AM

87. He had a good run.

I never thought of him as being that old. But:

Quote:

Gossett became friendly with James Dean and studied acting with Marilyn Monroe, Martin Landau and Steve McQueen at an offshoot of the Actors Studio taught by Frank Silvera.

In 1959, Gossett received critical acclaim for his role in the Broadway production of “A Raisin in the Sun” along with Sidney Poitier, Ruby Dee and Diana Sands.
RIP

RIP... didn't he have a talk show later in his career also?

scho63 03-29-2024 09:46 AM

He was really good in The Choirboys and it's a movie everyone should see once.

chinaski 03-29-2024 09:55 AM

He was great in a little known Western called El Diablo. It's available on YouTube for free.

RIP

PunkinDrublic 03-29-2024 10:04 AM

His last words were D-O-R

ReynardMuldrake 03-29-2024 10:21 AM

I know the name. I was looking through his filmography trying to find what I've seen him in. Apparently I only know him from Boardwalk Empire.

R.I.P.

He was a good one, RIP

What have you been doing all your life, listening to Mick Jagger music and bad mouthing your country?

Enemy Mine is my favorite.

I know the world doesn't care for that flick as much as I do but there should be dozens of memes from that one...

One of the best guilty pleasure movies ever. And one of Heather Graham’s first films.

Diggstown, Enemy Mine, Iron Eagle… dude excelled at “guilty pleasure” movies.

Enemy Mine was the first thing that popped into my head. Not great, but decent movie with Dennis Quaid.
RIP Lou

Diggstown was the shit! Iron Eagle was the corny one for me.

Why Not? 03-29-2024 02:51 PM

Don't care what anyone says. Jaws III was awesome!

Frazod 03-29-2024 02:54 PM

That sucks. He delivered one of the greatest performances of all time in Officer and a Gentleman.

RIP :(

A young Anthony Edwards starred in that, as well. Pretty decent flick.

RIP to an icon.

This is one of my favorite movie fight scenes.

I saw this in a crowded theater when I was in high school. When Gossett nailed Gere in the crotch with that kick (3:40), pretty much every guy in the crowd doubled over and groaned. LMAO

You know I have never seen this movie. Don't know why. Had Deborah Winger in it. She was railing our Gov at the time. Bob Kerry. LMAO

You really should add that to your bucket movie list. It's a great film. Perhaps my favorite dramatic movie from that era.

I never thought it was that good and wouldn't recommend it to anybody, but my mom loved it. Maybe I'll have to rewatch it. The movie hasn't changed but I have.

some of the big ones are really getting up there.

I saw a picture of Gene Hackman out in public recently, and he doesn't look good at all.

RIP chappy.

Pretty sure I looked at the same pic like 10 minutes ago, he was out with his wife at age 94... yeah man he looked rough, hardly recognizable

Eastwood won't be around much longer either at age 92 or 3, I'm dreading that one
