Guess the Thursday Night Opener Game

Who ya got for the defending two-time Super Bowl Champions and opening night?

Jerm 05-01-2024 09:23 AM

Tampa Bay

Sneaky choice is the Chargers.

It could easily be the chargers after the Harbaugh hire and Merriman mouthing off.

tredadda 05-01-2024 09:25 AM

Who is in the rotation as far as conference/division opponents?

Yep, the Chargers are the dark horse.

I voted the Texans, though. Young up and coming team loaded with firepower with a QB coming off a fantastic rookie season. I think that is the matchup the NFL would like to see.

I believe we have the AFC North and the NFC South this year.

I think they save that one for later in the year with possible seeding on the line...

Renegade 05-01-2024 09:27 AM

won't be chargers. We opened 2 years ago against them. It will have to be one of the 2 NFC games and save the premier games for later in the season.

I could see that, too. A Sunday nighter sometime in December.....

Yeah, Texans are my pick. They're certainly the most intriguing team we'll play next year. They might save it for SNF, though.

Hoover 05-01-2024 09:29 AM

The TV execs are bussing for the Bengals otherwise Burrow might not be in the lineup when they play the Chiefs

TwistedChief 05-01-2024 09:30 AM

Texans. And I don't think there's a close second.

Gotta hype up Harbaugh's NFL return, though. And they seem to always stan for the LA teams.

Gary Cooper 05-01-2024 09:32 AM

I thought a game in Brazil would be the NFL opener.

I think it will be Baltimore knowing this, unless they add Houston to the schedule. If that happens I think it will be the Texans.

redfan 05-01-2024 09:37 AM

TX'ns

scho63 05-01-2024 09:42 AM

1. Chargers
2. Ravens
3. Bengals

That Brazil game is on Friday night, correct? I didn't dream that up?

FloridaMan88 05-01-2024 09:46 AM

Houston or maybe Cincy.

BigRedChief 05-01-2024 09:47 AM

Texans. They will save the Chargers and Bengals for later in the season.

Pasta Little Brioni 05-01-2024 09:47 AM

Should be Denver...but I'll say Texans

Yep.

Direckshun 05-01-2024 09:50 AM

I'm betting Bengals.

NFL may feel like it was robbed of a Mahomes/Burrow smackdown from last year and want to get it back.

displacedinMN 05-01-2024 09:50 AM

when is the week that the schedule is to be released (in chunks)

Rainbarrel 05-01-2024 09:55 AM

MVP Ravens, not sure the Texans have much of a fan base

luv 05-01-2024 10:00 AM

The Lions kind of came out of nowhere last year. I thought they'd be an easy win and was proven wrong. I'm going to go against the grain and guess the Saints. Plus, I'll love being the only one whose right (since I'd probably not be right otherwise anyway).

Wisconsin_Chief 05-01-2024 10:01 AM

Should be the Texans, but it'll be either the Chargers or Baltimore.

CoMoChief 05-01-2024 10:39 AM

Chargers to me are the sexy pick imo because everyone wants to see what Harbaugh can do with that roster now an adult is finally in the room, and the haters want to see someone else challenge the Chiefs for the AFCW. They just have to avoid being bit by the inj bug. Nice roster on paper, but half of them is on IR by Halloween.

Now that BUF roster has been depleated. Bengals and Ravens are now the Chiefs rivals/hurdles if they plan to 3peat. IMO they're 1A and 1B. From top/down roster wise they're built to give the Chiefs some fits. They're talented enough to do it, but can they do it when it really counts (postseason). IF Aaron Rodgers can stay healthy the Jets could be a sleeper team here.

HOU just because they're the young up n comer challenging for that pack lead. They've had a good offseason and added some good pieces. Mahomes n Co are still the alpha dogs in the AFC.

Rain Man 05-01-2024 10:44 AM

I'll go Texans, because it'll be a really interesting matchup of Dawson and Abner Haynes versus Mahomes and Travis Kelce.

Oh, wait. It's the Houston Texans. Eh, I'll still go with the Texans.

ChiefsCountry 05-01-2024 10:47 AM

Chargers or Texans. Harbaugh, LA is sexy sell. CJ Stroud vs Mahomes is sexy, but not in the national stage yet.

GeorgeZimZam 05-01-2024 10:48 AM

I voted Houston Texans.

That was our home opener that year but it was technically week 2.

Last time we had the Chargers week 1 was 2018, Mahomes’ first year starting.

Gravedigger 05-01-2024 11:05 AM

I hope it's the Raiders. Would love for it to really drive home the point that we just won the Super Bowl in their stadium and now they have to come to our stadium so we can show them the rings and banner.

Graystoke 05-01-2024 11:36 AM

I think its the Texans. A good matchup IMO.

KC_Lee 05-01-2024 11:37 AM

Texans makes sense if thr NFL wants to paint the story of the plucky, young and up and coming team trying to threaten the reining Super Bowl Champs. Plus the PMII vs Stroud would make for good TV.

KC vs Chargers make for a premium early season Thursday night / Monday night game.

Cincinnati & Baltimore should be saved for the second half / last quarter of the season.

ThyKingdomCome15 05-01-2024 11:40 AM

Last year they picked a contender who who didn't play the prior season. I'm expecting the same this year.

Texans.

This is a good one. I didn't think of that.

I went with the Ravens. Repeat of AFCCG, not a guarantee that the Ravens will be good enough that it will be a seeding battle later in the year, and reigning league MVP vs reigning Super Bowl MVP.

OnTheWarpath15 05-01-2024 05:31 PM

Remember that there are typically two MNF games and they need the 2nd one to be a West Coast game.

I would think they would save the Chargers for that.

The networks are gonna want Baltimore and Cinci for later.

I think it's gonna be Houston, but I wish it was the Bengals.

The NFL got burned last year when they saved the Cincy/Chiefs game for Week 17… only to have Brokedick Burrow unavailable.

They could put this year’s game in Week One to ensure a Burrow/Mahomes match-up.

I still think Texans are the most likely option.

mr. tegu 05-01-2024 06:06 PM

We opened against the Texans just a few years ago. That could factor in to persuade them to go Ravens.

BWillie 05-01-2024 06:50 PM

It's going to be Baltimore. Houston hasn't earned anything yet.

GabyKeepsMeWarm 05-01-2024 06:51 PM

If it's away, I'm gonna say the Saints, in a bit of a precursor to where we'll be playing the Super Bowl in a few more months.

If it's in KC, I'm gonna say the Texans, for all the reasons already stated.

MMXcalibur 05-01-2024 06:53 PM

It’s not going to be the Ravens, Bengals, or Texans.

Being the first game of the season, the NFL knows they can stick any team in there and get your viewership.

I’m guessing the Raiders since they won’t shut the **** up about their fluky Christmas Day win.

Megatron96 05-01-2024 09:24 PM

Guessing HOU. Basically the same kind of "rising star vs. champs" story as DET last season. Rocky with football teams.

Should actually be a pretty good game.

wazu 05-01-2024 09:32 PM

Bucs. Decent opponent but not a marquee game. Save the big dogs for other prime time slots throughout the year.

Old Dog 05-02-2024 07:21 AM

Texans

My guess also.

St. Patty's Fire 05-02-2024 07:33 AM

chiefs/texans would be a crazy opener

wazu 05-02-2024 07:39 AM

Would be kind of funny if it were the Texans. Second time they'd have the honor of getting beaten by the Chiefs in a game where we raised a banner.

O.city 05-02-2024 07:55 AM

Gotta figure the networks will wanna save that Bengals and Ravens game for later in the year/ SNF etc.

Woogieman 05-02-2024 10:09 AM

I guess Texans...that way they can spend several weeks promoting it instead of just a few days. The NFL loves to match new Top Gun vs established star.

Bengals would actually probably be the smart choice. Capitalize on whatever hype they have going into the season before they implode.

New World Order 05-02-2024 10:28 AM

Edit: Going with RAvens

Has the opening TNF game ever featured a division matchup?

Eureka 05-02-2024 11:56 AM

Won't be the Raiders. They just recently had a prime time game together on Christmas day.

I think that's most likely. You want to get the possible losing teams on prime time as early in the season as possible.

They'll save the big time feuds for the more dramatic late season games. Baltimore, Cinci, Buffalo will all be October or later.

Archie Bunker 05-03-2024 02:47 PM

It will be Tampa. Networks won’t want to give up the Texans and Bengals matchups. No AFC West. So Tampa or NO with Tampa getting the edge as a playoff team and past Super Bowl foe.
