RB3?

Is Louis Reese-Zammit our 3rd RB? A recent ESPN article seemingly indicated he's our kick returner and he's been working out with the RBs and preparing for a "versatile role." I assume that means something like a scat-back position, could Zammit be our McKinnon replacement?

or should it be one of the UDFA's? I saw the kid from UCLA mentioned as a FB, but he ran for like 1,500 yards one season. Bailey passes the eye test, seems like the most likely option to me, but what's up with that RAS score?

We were discussing in a thread somewhere but I lost track of which thread lol

Dunerdr 05-07-2024 09:42 AM

Nick Jacobs is usually pretty hard on grading but said he came away impressed with all the guys trying out for the RB room this weekend. More speed than expected.

Hayneplane 05-07-2024 11:54 AM

Who knows at this stage as Deneric Prince was looking sharp early on but it didn’t translate to games.

Direckshun 05-07-2024 12:04 PM

I still think we sign McKinnon.

But Reid ran a certain amount of WR-at RB plays last year, first with Toney, then with Rice. I wouldn't be super shocked if some of that happened.

ntexascardfan 05-07-2024 05:30 PM

We're gonna try to make him our Deebo.

kccrow 05-07-2024 08:06 PM

I'd give Emani Bailey a strong chance at winning that job

gordonelloyd 05-07-2024 09:48 PM

I’m really hoping for the rugby guy to work out. Probably a longshot, although he is clearly a gifted athlete.

Probably just wait and see and if nothing works out then sign McKinnon.

Nothing left in free agency looks very appealing.

CoMoChief 05-07-2024 10:26 PM

Not exactly fond of the Chiefs re-signing CEH and not drafting his replacement instead.

Chargem 05-09-2024 08:50 AM

LRZ probably can't be your 3rd down back this year. You can't trust a guy who has never taken a snap in a pro game with pass protection?

Dunerdr 05-10-2024 06:02 AM

I personally think LRZ's path to making the team is scat back.

After Thanksgiving for end of season/playoff stretch would be nice.

RunKC 05-10-2024 08:30 AM

This is more concerning than WR for me. Pacheco’ style dictates more injuries as he gets older and I sure as hell don’t want Clyde out there getting significant play time.

O.city 05-10-2024 08:53 AM

CEH is a fine #2. He's not good, but he is fine as a change up.

They need a legit game breaker though. Pach will break down sooner than later.

McKinnon is done.

Couch-Potato 05-10-2024 04:53 PM

This is the position to watch this summer I think, probably the most exciting competition we have.

That, and 2nd TE, would love to hear Wiley's showing out in camp and wins the spot in preseason!

Couch-Potato 05-10-2024 08:08 PM

A little surprised we weren't interested in Ekler, seems like a great replacement for Mckinnon.

I woulda been down for that

Dunerdr 05-11-2024 09:12 PM

Eckler didn’t look like eckler to me last year. Another year does t bode well.

I thought Perine was about a mid tier back up type so hopefully that is good news for the rest of the room.

Couch-Potato 05-20-2024 03:47 PM

I hope you're right, curious to see what the Rugby guy has.

Couch-Potato 05-22-2024 07:21 PM

You guys think we resign Pachecco after next season?

...seems pretty likely to me at this point, I think he comes back at a decent price.

I love Pacheco but it seems like we can pickup a RB in late rounds or even UDFA at this point. I'm not 100% sure Burt Vurch will pay him anything, especially considering how many other people are going to need paid. We have a ton of money invested in to Mahomes, Kelce, and Jones already. There's too many other players need contracts at more important positions. Every dollar counts here. I predict we end up letting him walk and maybe sign him as a free agent if the price is right and if our RB room needs him.

O.city 05-23-2024 10:40 AM

No he won't be back.

Style isn't gonna hold up.

Prince is probably the 3rd RB this year,

I would not get your hopes too high on Wiley contributing much in year 1, never mind being TE2

Personally, I think he's already TE3. Who knows if he can push Noah Gray for that 2nd spot, but heck, I was impressed with Gray a few times last year and thought he might have a small breakout season but ultimately didn't result in much. If Wiley supplants Gray as TE2, and produces in yr-1 just as well as Noah did last year, I'd be excited about that trajectory.

Personally, I'd be game for replacing Pacheco with a high draft pick to pair Mahomes with an all around top quality RB. I think our roster is so well built there's not much more to want.

But I'm starting to feel like Pachecco won't demand much on the open market and can be kept for small contract. He's not an all around back, this might be the first year he's a 3rd down back, he's more of a speed guy that fits really well into our offense. If that's the case, I think they'd bring him back.

I pounded the table for Devon Achane, but I think Veach has made it clear that after how CEH panned out, he wouldn't be investing a high draft pick in a RB again. When we got CEH, that was the thought process... "Hey our roster is pretty good, we just won a SB, why tf not". And it ended up being a total waste. There were so many other directions that we could have gone that would have been so much more beneficial.

The difference between a good and a great RB isn't that much and it's not worth dumping a high draft pick, plus we are never going to PAY a RB, so even if we were to draft a freaking Barry Sanders, they'd walk after 3 or 4 years anyway. I just see the RB position as having a low ROI compared to pretty much any other position right now. Hell, even if we had Barry Sanders, I don't see teams loading the box to stop the run against us, considering who we have behind the center and calling plays.

Wiley will be better than Gray I think, but Gray had ~37 yards in his first season as a Chief and around 300 last year. The chances of Wiley having 300 yards this year I would say are almost zero. I would be surprised if he gets 100.
