New Orleans

Hitting a cruise ship out of New Orleans next week. Going to be in New Orleans a couple of days early. What are some things we can see or do? I know the French Quarter area has several things but what else is there to do?

ChiefsCountry 05-10-2024 04:00 PM

New Orleans was the coolest dirtiest nasty city I've been to lol. Bourbon Street was cool. Amazing food in the city. The old architecture was neat.

ToxSocks 05-10-2024 04:04 PM

You could always flash your titties at random strangers. Heard that was all the rage down there.

DaFace 05-10-2024 04:05 PM

Eat and drink in copious amounts.

(We also took a swamp tour one day when we were there, which was fun.)

Megatron96 05-10-2024 04:20 PM

Fishing is excellent. Food is out of this world, even the little hole-in-the-wall places; maybe especially those.

About a billion little blues/jazz joints.

2bikemike 05-10-2024 04:49 PM

There is an excellent WWII museum if you are into that and have the time.

Rain Man 05-10-2024 05:20 PM

Take beads and singles. And the WWII museum is cool.

Bearcat 05-10-2024 06:17 PM

I skipped standing in line at Cafe Du Monde and ended up going to Monty's on the Square multiple times and it was fantastic.

Pat O'Brien's was a fun piano bar, but the drinks are only good if you like a cup of sugar with a shot of alcohol.

Stryker 05-10-2024 06:49 PM

I have no desire to ever set foot in that shithole. Hell I feel like taking a shower anytime I have to drive through Louisiana.

Megatron96 05-10-2024 07:25 PM

If I were the OP, I'd try to immerse myself in the culture/people as much as possible. New Orleans is probably the most unique American city I can think of. Just completely different from every other city I've ever been in. Whatever you do, enjoy it.

Uh, I have no dog in this fight, but Plano might be a top 50 richest county in the country and probably doubles home values of NO.

It's not like someone's throwing stones from an abandoned strip mall in Raytown.

THAT is not the point. Do NOT judge a state nor city with that kind of attitude. I could care less of FINACIAL stability. WE are talking heritage and the future host of SB 59. :thumb:

This was about the OP. What to do in NOLA. I did not ask for this dislike, I was merely trying to assist a CPer. So, now, I am backing out. I hope the OP has a great time in NOLA before said cruise.

I remember Plano before it was absorbed by Dallas.

This. Especially the first three words.

Spent my HS years in Plano. Honestly it was a disaster of a place for teenagers at that time. Lots of overdoses and suicides.

A Ferdie Special at Mother's with a side of rice and beans.

The Napoleon House

Go to the site of the Battle of New Orleans, I found the site to be fascinating with a tour guide describing the battle lines and such to us.

Its where General Andrew Jackson made a name for himself as it brought about the end of the War of 1812. Estimated casualties of the battle was U.S.
62 to England's 2,034. And England had more forces on the field.

Its just a few miles away from New Orleans.

neech 05-10-2024 09:29 PM

Also you can go on a bus tour of the Garden District which is pretty cool and they throw in an old cemetery to check out as well. They use to have a families for generations placed in those big crypts. It was kind of weird but informative.

Megatron96 05-10-2024 09:34 PM

Don’t know if it’s still there but the scotch house. It might be Willie Mays scotch house? Great chicken, and great New Orleans atmosphere.

The red beans and rice are the bomb as well.

Bob Dole 05-10-2024 09:45 PM

That place with the one gallon take out daiquiris.

RollChiefsRoll 05-10-2024 10:07 PM

Best food in the city is at Jacques-Imo’s in my opinion. Brigtsen’s and Shaya are also incredible.

Best sandwiches are at Cochon Butcher and Parkway Poboys.

Best cocktails are at the Cure.

Best place for live music is anywhere on Frenchmen Street—dba, Spotted Cat, Blue Nile.

If you’re not having a great time in NOLA, the problem is you.

Oh, I never thought of that. I really want to do that the next time I travel to New Orleans.

I bet St. Louis is in second place, though.
