Concerned -Pat Wouldn't be Pat if.....

I don't see Pat Mahomes being who he is today had he went to a premier football program instead of a more middling Texas Tech. TT, while a decent program, TT was far from an embarrassment of riches. Pat learned to adapt, improvise, and do without compared to say Bama, Florida, Texas, OK. We saw last year how Pat has learned to pull it off with less weapons and really, he looked better than ever working with less. Is anyone concerned that Pat loses a bit of his "resourcefulness" now that he has a stash of weapons? To me, Pat is best when he depends on Pat (and Kelce maybe). I hope I am wrong.

Don't agree but we probably aren't in a position to move up to draft him if he goes to an Ohio st type school.

He'd go number 1 easy

Mahomes looked better than ever last season. That has to be the first time that’s ever been said.

Shaid 06-13-2024 10:20 AM

Mahomes learned how to comeback in games because he always had to comeback in games. He had a horrible defense. Should we take away his good defense because he now will get less yards because he doesn't have to risk as much?

Did you forget he used to have Hill, Kelce, and Watkins? Did he lose anything then? You're just giving an artist a full set of brushes instead of making him work with a paint roller. The result will be better.

Mahomes’ “resourcefulness” was just fine when he had many “stashes” of offensive weapons with Tyreek, Sammy Watkins, etc.

He literally had his worst year ever as a pro last year. We won the Super Bowl but that was by far the worst offense Mahomes has ever been on since he was drafted.

I appreciate the thread and welcome to Chiefsplanet. I bet if you asked Pat when he is his best he would probably think it is when his back is against the wall and he doesn't have all the weapons as well.

chiefzilla1501 06-13-2024 11:53 AM

I have zero concerns. None at all.

That being said I’m glad he played out of structure at TTech and didn’t go to some urban Meyer read option bullshit or some dink and dunk offense. Thank god he went to Andy Reid who got the absolute best out of him. Losing his best WRs was a great way to learn the game a different way and was a great experience for him. In the future, with legit WR talent, I think we will look back on the past few years and laugh that we ever though pat the game manager is nearly as good as Pat with weapons to cook.

It’s a weird thing because although we won two super bowls you can see a new spark in Patrick this offseason.

dlphg9 06-13-2024 11:55 AM

What a dumb ****ing post. Jesus you're stupid.

Direckshun 06-13-2024 11:56 AM

I'll take the OP seriously.

The OP is concerned that with all the superior talent Mahomes may well have around him, won't he lose the ability to pull off magic plays?

There's several reasons that this is poorly founded. One of them, and probably the biggest, is that Mahomes is a Dedication Machine who works obsessively to hone his craft. I doubt he'll lose one of his biggest strengths that makes him so much better than everyone else.

But the other reasons have to do with our team. Our team has problematic tackles still (until proven otherwise, though I suppose Taylor did during the playoff run). Kelce and Hollywood are going to be great weapons for Mahomes, but after that, everything's a question mark until Rice returns. Will Worthy get on the field, and what impact will he have? Watson and Hardman as deep threats/manufactured touches are good 3rd and 4th options, I guess? Toney and Moore were both colossal disappointments that basically defanged the offense last year. How will Rice look when he returns (I assume he'll look great)?

The Chiefs share a division with two very strong defenses in the Raiders and the Chargers, and the rest of their schedule is bodied out with some great passrushes and smart defensive coordinators.

This is not the 2007 Patriots or 2018 Chiefs, where it was basically a bulletproof offense. Mahomes will be challenged, teams will occasionally erase Kelce, teams will occasionally make life hell for our tackles. Mahomes will have to pull rabbits out of his hat for us to win those games.

Fortunately, he's the GOAT precisely because he's a Dedication Machine.

Mahomes has won a Super Bowl with stud weapons on offense, one with mediocre weapons (Kelce aside), and one with mostly dog shit weapons.

He good.

Bingo. Last season was Pat's worst for stats, but I would argue it was his best season to date. Yes the defense was great, but it was PM's resourcefulness (with Andy) that brought us the Lombardi. No other QB does what he did last year. Pat was imprinted in doing more with less around him. Staying in some of those high scoring Big 12 shootouts with less talent around him made him the player he is today. This + Andy = MVP.

Intelligent discussion means a back-and-forth. All you did was say, "Hey guyz wut if Mahomez ever decidez 2 play bad footballlll?????" and then a couple people calmly explained why that was stupid. And then you didn't respond to them, push back, or even say, "You're right, that was foolish of me."

What you have isn't intelligent discussion. It's unintelligent discussion.

Good thread, OP.

Sometimes i wonder if Pat could still throw a football if he were born with no arms. I mean, obviously the answer is yes, but still....i mean, how amazing would it be to have a Qb who can throw the ball 100 yards in the air with no arms?

Pretty bad ass if you ask me.

T-post Tom 06-13-2024 07:30 PM

What if PMII had 4 arms & could throw equally well with each one? And what if he had wheels instead of legs and could go from 0 to 60 mph in 2.5 secs? He’d probably suck, right? I mean "resourcefulness" would go right out the window with those assets.

This is next level dumb... Mahommes was a 3 star recruit... read that again....

Why would the big schools target him when there were "better" QBs to get.

Mahomes is him because of how hard he works and his drive. He will have that regardless of what team he is on.

I agree with this part. I think Pat having to overcome a bad defense and suspect weapons and so on in college, the fact that he had to deal with that adversity and the losses, helped forge his character into the relentlessly overachieving man we see today. I've always been wary of QBs that always won, that went to programs like AL and just never experienced losing or even multiple tough games in a row. That never had to dig deep and adapt/overcome. Those guys usually end up being front-runners, only able to win when they get an early lead.
