One of the originators of trash TV, I do remember he foiled a plot to assassinate Queen Elizabeth at a baseball game. Rip

Same day as 1963chief’s birthday.

Draw your own conclusions.

RIP

And thanks for being a better option than soap operas on school sick days for kids.

"The Phil Donahue Show, meh, it's better than a soap opera."

Shiver Me Timbers 08-19-2024 08:41 AM

He is/was married to "That Girl".

Not really.

He was super-serious and legit, but with the advent of Morton Downey and Geraldo, his ratings started to drop, and he ended up having to pivot to try to get the ratings back.

Heh. When I was little and home from school sick, I used to stay at my Grandmother's house (while my Mom was at work) that was right across the street from where we lived. My Grandma would fix me peanut butter toast and hot tea while we watched Donahue :)

RIP, Phil

I think that was Enrico Pallazzo

New World Order 08-19-2024 09:29 AM

Phil was awesome

Tonka83 08-19-2024 09:32 AM

They should bury him in a dress.

BWillie 08-19-2024 10:11 AM

I thought this was the dad on Modern Family at First

ToxSocks 08-19-2024 10:14 AM

Never thought he'd out live Jerry Springer.

It’s definitely not as good as Hogans Heroes or Mash re-runs

I've been watching those reruns recently, and Colonel Hogan was getting a little too confident in later episodes of the show. He was almost daring the Germans to catch him.

I remember when that wrassler slapped him for calling wrassler's professional career fake

Can you blame him? I mean… we are talking a about a show that features funny Nazis.

That’s correct. He would have on scientist guys like Linus Paulson who talked about the real danger to the foodstuffs due to the radiation bomb from Chernobyl.

Yea, the trash TV wounded him, then Oprah gutted him.

JimNasium 08-19-2024 12:17 PM

I vividly recall my mother being glued to his show when he had a renowned atheist on the show. I can’t recall her name, but do recall my mother being totally horrified.

*Edit*

It was Madalyn Murray O’Hair. My google search suggests that she was a frequent guest of the show.

Game shows were on in the mornings. Soap operas and Donahue were on in the afternoon. If I remember right Donahue came on at noon.

I respectfully disagree, it was hot topic emotional vampire daytime talk show just like the rest of them. Was it as trashy as Jerry Springer? No. But the idea was still the same.

BigRock 08-19-2024 02:10 PM

Think this was his final episode, he was cancelled right after this.

That was Oprah, she asked if it was fake and Dynamite Kid headbutted her and gave her a shoot brainbuster on the floor.

Chargem 08-19-2024 02:31 PM

Dona-who?

RedinTexas 08-19-2024 03:11 PM

Donahue sucked. The best episode of Donahue that I can remember is when he had the economist Milton Friedman on. Milton cut him to pieces.

Stewie 08-20-2024 01:24 AM

His son Kevin was roommates with a good friend of mine at KU. Nice guy and never really let it be known he was Phil's son unless you asked him about it.

Bob Dole 08-20-2024 06:19 AM

I enjoyed watching him host The Jerry Springer show back in the day. He always had such classy guests and thought provoking conversations.

Colonel Hogan apparently got a little too confident with making amateur porn films with the ladies he was sleeping with too. Leading to him being bludgeoned and strangled to death in an apartment in Scottsdale.

If you don't rate, just overcompensate, at least you know you can always go on Ricki Lake.

MMXcalibur 08-20-2024 12:40 PM

I'll never forget the time he showed up at the Academy Awards...
