Texans watch
I think we are on a collision course with Proto-Mahomes
<blockquote class="twitter-tweet"><p lang="en" dir="ltr">3rd and 13, on the run, across the body — first down. <br><br>C.J. Stroud had a couple throws today that should have been interceptions. Last year he was very careful with the ball. Seems to be more aggressive this year.
|
Troll or stupid? I used to think troll but leaning toward you just being dumb.
Show me thirty of these plays and his stat line before crowning the next Mahomes. |
Well he’s no Caleb Williams.
|
They're really good but not as good as the Ravens. They're playing better football than CIN at the moment. I put them in a three way tie with MIA and BUF as the third tier teams in the AFC. JAX takes the fourth tier.
|
Josh Allen has a serious competitor for 2nd best QB in the NFL
|
They’re our new Bengals.
Great qb Plenty of weapons Good enough defense |

Their weapons are legit. They have a 3 headed monster at WR that's honestly probably better than the Bengals group. The real problem is Mixon had 178 total yards today and looked great. They were horrible running the ball last year. If they can start punishing you like that for trying to guard their speed at WR they're going to be a pain to defend.

They will be a strong contender for the one seed, and they absolutely cannot have that. Houston would not be a fun place for us to play. |
I felt like the Lions, Eagles, and Ravens looked like best teams outside of us this week. The Bills looked alright in the 2nd half of their game. Dolphins offense was fast, per usual.
Obviously we’ll see what the 49ers and Jets look like tomorrow. Still feeling great about our chances. |

Texans defense looked very vulnerable imo. Their secondary got beat over and over again by Pierce and Mitchell. The first time Pierce beat their best two corners Lassiter and Stingley on a simple deep ball and then Richardson missed AD Mitchell twice with deep balls after he beat his man down field and was wide open.
Offensively they were OK but were bailed out big time by soft penalties that negated two picks and also gave them fresh downs inside the ten when they were stopped. They possessed the ball for 40 minutes, had 213 rushing yards and only won by two points against a QB who has only played a handful of games? Not overly impressed tbh. And next week they have Caleb who looked like utter garbage today. So I'd expect them to win that one aswell. And no, they aren't better than 2021 Bengals imo. Burrow, Chase, Higgins, Boyd, Mixon, Perine and Uzomah were tough to deal with and their defense rose up against good competition. Eagles were decent offensively but Hurts tried his best to give the game away and their new defense was all over the place. Cowboys looked decent but just like the Bills it's what they do in the regular season. Plus Watson looks like all the injuries and missed time has messed him up. |

I've strongly maintained the following for years now (especially during the height of Burrow's ridiculous hype, which even infected this board) and don't see it changing for at least another year or 2. 1. Mahomes -gap- 2. Allen -gap- 3. everyone else |

Clayster isn't wrong, Houston is a threat. He has weapons and confidence. He isn't Mahomes, but I would rather face Buffalo than Houston and I think Allen is better than Stroud.
|
I guess this is the official Texans thread. Cause every competitor needs its own thread.
|
Texans are very good. Skill positions are as good as anyone in the NFL.
Their Achilles heel is the offensive line. They gave up 4 sacks and 10 qb hits yesterday to the Colts. The Colts sold out to stop Stroud and Mixon killed them on the ground. |

That's why he's Proto Mahomes, and not Mahomes.

They didn't really look all that scary yesterday offensively, and it looks like their defense didn't make the jump that I expected.
|
not sure why anyone thought it was anyone but the Texans? They’ve got the best QB since Mahomes, excellent weapons, decent OL and good rushers. This team beat Burrow and the Bengals in Cincinnati last year.
It’s gonna be a Houston/KC AFCCG IMO. But man their secondary is ripe for the taking. It’s not very good. |
Indy hit on multiple big passing plays against their secondary.

Their offense seems pretty good but that defense they played yesterday was downright awful and they still were very fortunate not to have multiple turnovers. Their defense seems like it will be average at best. Overall they could be the “ best” competition but I wouldn’t say I’m overly concerned about them.

Lets not discredit what CJ did last year. He went to a dumpster fire, with a first time head coach. And he turned everything around right off the bat. No nearly the same situtation Mahomes walked into. |

This thread is ****ing embarrassing and of course Beta Clay is who made it.
Making a thread dedicated to a non-division rival who has yet to even make a dent in the NFL AFC Power Structure. This thread is seriously an embarrassment to our forum. Texans watch? Like the two time defending champs and the KINGS of the NFL need to be watching out for some AFC South scrub ass franchise that's just barely getting its dick wet? **** outta here with this thread. |
At least with the Bengals and Bills we got history and beef. The ****ing Texans?
****ing embarrassing if any Texans fans see this thread. Ughhh....delete this shit. Seriously. "Don't look now guys, but Chiefs fans are worried about us". No Texans fans, we're not worried about you. Just Beta Clay is. |

If you are going to magically give the Texans points in the first half then you have to give the Colts the missed wide open TD that preceded Richardson’s INT which would have given them the lead. The Texans were definitely not 14 points better in the first half. Teams were pretty even. |

I wouldn't write off the Bengals quite yet but yeah, they look like the real deal.
|

What separates them from the Dolphins? Until they become a perennial threat and actually beat the top dogs of the conference, they're nothing more than the Dolphins. Good squad, but they're still just juniors, not seniors. |

They also dropped 45 in a playoff win a week later. A team on the rise. |
The more attention-grabbing thing about Houston yesterday is it looks like they may be ready to maximize Joe Mixon.
If they can have a legitimate ground attack consistently, yeah, I'd start buying them as our top competition this year. |

Dude is crazy. I keep waiting for him to fall off but never happens. He can slang it.

They are quickly moving in the right direction of being a very good football team.
Need to see a little more consistent success. They won yesterday but not sure it was so convincing. |

Counter point Houston secondary....
<blockquote class="twitter-tweet"><p lang="en" dir="ltr">AD Mitchell was *3* better balls away from having a pretty awesome NFL debut <a href="https://t.co/vrZy5cVkUy">pic.twitter.com/vrZy5cVkUy</a></p>— Ian Hartitz (@Ihartitz) <a href="https://twitter.com/Ihartitz/status/1833150394958049598?ref_src=twsrc%5Etfw">September 9, 2024</a></blockquote> <script async src="https://platform.twitter.com/widgets.js" charset="utf-8"></script> If Hollywood or Worthy get that open Mahomes ain't missing them. |
It still boggles the mind that the Panthers took Young over Stroud. Even if you had never seen either of them play, after standing next to both of them the answer should have been obvious. Young not only looks tiny, he plays tiny.

A whole lot of promise that doesn't finish is kinda what the Texans have accomplished before. I thought they did this before Watson too
|
Texans are rapidly becoming our worst enemy.
|
Guys were running wide open through their secondary all day, Richardson is just 50/50 on if he hits the throws.

I may end up going but I'm holding into my Texans tickets as that game could have huge implications late in the season.
|
And maybe they can get us 35 on us this time
|
I'm still curious about how stroud and Jordan love hold up after their breakout seasons. I still think a lot of their game revolves around chuck it balls. A lot of backfooted throws and not the mahomes off platform kind. I feel like these types of qbs were rewarded because defenses spent all off-season trying to keep everything in front of them to counter the chiefs attack.
But then again it's week 1 where offenses across the league were mostly pretty bad. So who knows |
There is something about the Texans that strikes fear in the heart of Claythan. I recall that leading up to the Divisional round game in January of 2020 he was terrified that Will ****ing Fuller was going to kill us. I think I recall he has family connections in Houston, so maybe that’s it, but he tends to inflate their ability. Don’t get me wrong, they are good, but still a long way from being the threat he’s pimping in this thread.
|
He's great, they are a good team. They are building up something good there. I'm happy to face them up here when it counts for real.
|
If we have to go there, then I feel really sorry for them.
|
The highest prince isn't on the same level as the king
|
Never count on a dome team come playoff time.
|
I'm not ready to jump on the Texans bandwagon just yet. How many times have we seen a team look really good for a season, then fall back to the mean? Everyone thought that Daboll had fixed Daniel Jones his first year coaching him. The Giants are back to being a disaster. Deshaun Watson looked great for a few years early in his career. Now he's a dumpster fire. I remember the Browns were looking pretty good at one point with Baker Mayfield. Maybe they continue to look great. But it's not a certainty. Other than the Chiefs, nobody has been consistently good. I'll just watch and see.

Struggled against a bad Bears team that had a final drive attempt to win the game
|
The meal ain't meeting the hype for me either
|
They don’t look like a juggernaut at the moment, squeaking out close wins against bad teams. But they have a very weak division. The other AFC South teams have already piled up 0 wins and 6 losses in 2 weeks.
|
It's 2 weeks in. We don't look like world beaters either.
|
The Saints keeping that pace ain't happening
