Shohei Ohtani is a mutant freak.

51-51. 6-6, 3 HRs, 2SB, 10RBI, 5XBH. What the utter eff does that? I'm 99% certain we are living among aliens. Because Ohtani is a walking talking alien. Just wow. Oh, and LAD has 9 games left to play. 60-60 anyone? Oh, and Ohtani's technically 'rehabbing' after his Tommy John surgery. Discuss. Shit yerself. Speak in tongues. Have at it. This is one of those moments.

It's sad that baseball lives in the shadows of the NFL and NBA.

This is the most underappreciated display of greatness that I can think of in modern sports.

The dude needs a national holiday.

TwistedChief 09-20-2024 02:26 AM

To reach 50/50 with probably the greatest game ever played is absolutely bonkers.

Mahomes hit 55 TD passes and 5,500 yards in the same game by throwing for 6 TDs, 500 yards, rushing for another 100 yards, and scoring 2 TDs on the ground.

Something like that.

i really think the amount of games hurts its regular season watchability. its just theres so many it makes each game feel so inconsequential, especially compared to football where every game matters so much. Sometimes i feel like even hockey and basketball have too many games and theyre only at 82 lol.

playoff baseball is like an entirely different beast, its almost like watching a different sport compared to regular season baseball

And when ohtanis arm heals, then assume mahomes also plays CB and allows zero receptions against Justin Jefferson with 2 INTs

I think there is some truth to that. But I think the biggest issue is actually lack of access for most people to their local team/games. Growing up, everyone I knew had baseball on in the background. Now, without a pay package, most people can't even watch their local team. Baseball has only it's self to blame for it's "demise". That being said, I'm not sure sad is the way to describe it. The players are making more than ever, the fans who wish to have access to all the games can pay for them. As for Ohtani, he's an international mega star who I am sure is not lacking in attention and recognition.

Ocotillo 09-20-2024 09:57 AM

Shohei Othani has been caught stealing four times with 51 successful steal attempts.

Arizona Diamondbacks manager Torey Lovullo says that feat tells you what kind of student of the game Ohtani is. He thinks Ohtani spends a lot of time studying pitcher's moves. It's crazy to me that he does all this and still has time to do his pitcher's work and rehab on that side.

When LeBron and Mahomes accomplish amazing feats as the marquee players in their respective sports… they are interviewed and speak directly to the public.

Ohtani still requiring a translator… including after his historic game yesterday… is a factor.

That’s just a PR reality.

Nah. They lost credibility when they made David Ortiz a first ballot HoFer after taking a firm stance on steroid use and the hall, not to mention the handful of other known users currently in the HoF. I have no problem if they want to say Bonds and Clemens arent in because of steroids, but you can't then turn around and say a guy who was popped for steroids the year before a ban was put in place is a first ballot.

Baseball had nothing to do with it. The Baseball Writers Association of America kept them out.

Tom Verducci is a steroid hardliner.

Rob Manfred declares Ortiz's 2003 failed test should not be considered a true positive for legal reasons.

Verducci uses Manfred's edict as a justisfication to vote for Ortiz.

There's more to it than this. Ortiz is the face of the 2000s-10s Red Sox, the face of the 2004 comeback, the man who declared this is our ****ing city. The writers liked him and gave him a pass. "The politics of glory" as Bill James once appropriately remarked.

Yeah, I don't think Ohtani is in any kind of trouble or is the focus of any investigations. I believe I read that they found that his translator stole from him without his knowledge, so Shohei is in the clear.

Exactly. It's all a popularity contest. They have no credibility voting him in. Guess who else has only that 2003 test as evidence of steroid use. Sammy Sosa. Did he get Verducci's vote?
