We need to have a talk about the nickname "Nuk"

Someone explain this to me.

I'm generally not a fan of player nicknames. Silver Dick Trent Williams being the primary example.

Make me understand and like this nickname.

Dante84 10-24-2024 04:57 PM

DeAndre Hopkins, a wide receiver for the NFL, got his nickname "Nuk" from his mother as an infant because he would often chew through NUK pacifiers. The nickname is pronounced "nuke", while the pacifier brand is pronounced "nook".

TLO 10-24-2024 04:59 PM

I was thinking more like KNUCK.

Dante84 10-24-2024 05:00 PM

I had always assumed it had to do with him going "nuclear." Wikipedia enlightened me.

Jerok 10-24-2024 05:04 PM

Nuk, after 'nook', is when as a 16 year old he would still 'nook' against his mother as she breast fed him. He grew up big and strong and avoided the steroid police growing up as his mother was on them instead, as we all know if you take steroids through breast milk they are undetectable, and he grew up unnaturally big and strong, knowing one day he would be traded to the Chiefs and play for a real QB.

Most nicknames are dumb AF. A few exceptions include:

Night Train

Galloping Ghost

Megatron

I always just assumed he was a passionate supporter of nuclear holocaust.

Mecca 10-24-2024 05:12 PM

I just thought he loved Bull Durham

Womble 10-24-2024 05:13 PM

I assumed his nickname was nuk because he nuked Skyy Moore's chances of ever appearing on an NFL field again.

We're living in a dark age of nicknames. Nicknames haven't been good since WWII, and they were barely good then.

We simply shouldn't have nicknames.

KC_Lee 10-24-2024 05:36 PM

I thought it was a Stooges thing.

That's Puka Nacua's nickname.

Couch-Potato 10-24-2024 07:37 PM

Always thought it was a reference to Nuclear Bombs lol

redfan 10-24-2024 07:41 PM

A lot of folks pronounce it "Nuk", when it's actually pronounced "Nuk".

srvy 10-24-2024 07:46 PM

Cheeta

Big Dick Nick

As nicknames go I feel they have to be given by a coach or teammate. Self appointed nicknames are stupid.

srvy 10-24-2024 07:47 PM

Lance Bambi Alworth.

Bwana 10-24-2024 08:05 PM

Go nuk yourself!!

Frazod 10-24-2024 08:08 PM

My first thought was of Nucky Thompson from Boardwalk Empire. "Nucky" was a very much preferable variation of "Enoch."

Hopkins got the name NUK (Pronounced NUKE) when he was a baby, because he used to chew through his pacifiers. That's the truth. I heard him tell that story in an interview in Houston, back when he was a Texan.
