Jared Wiley [tore his ACL] in practice Friday
**** me is this shit ever gonna end?

Chiefs TE Jared Wiley suffered a knee injury in practice Friday. We will get an update from Andy Reid around 1 p.m. but my understanding is that it’s a significant injury.

Wiley is the second tight end Chiefs have lost this week after Jody Fortson torn his ACL vs Raiders.
— Matt Derrick (@mattderrick) November 2, 2024
 |
The gods are really testing us this season. They’re really gonna make us earn that three peat.
I just hope we can avoid the knockout blow. |
He wasn't playing many snaps, but TE depth is becoming an issue.
|
His 1 catch will be missed
|
Blake Bell, please pick up the white courtesy phone.
|
****ing hell, this has to be the worst year for injuries in the Reid era

Probably not volume wise, but in terms of impact, it's probably worse. |

Did we hire the chargers conditioning staff?

Wow
What is going on with strength and conditioning? Lots of bad knees. |
I'm still waiting for those double TE packages with Gonzalez and Kris Wilson.
|
Is Hendershot still on the practice squad?
|
Oh no!!!!
Anyway.... |

i didnt even know fortston tore his acl wtf
we signed him for like two seconds |
Aren’t there a lot of journey men te we can sign that know the playbook? Seems we recycle them a lot

And God forbid him or Noah Gray get hurt |
Hendershot will be just fine for what we need him to do. But hate that for Wiley. Game was already seeming pretty fast for him, now this setback.

That’s not great |
Torn ACL confirmed

Well shit!
Time for Hendy. |
LMAO just gotta laugh at this point. We'll be playing random fans in the playoffs at this point
|
Wiley didn’t play an offensive snap in the past two games.
It stinks but I’m not gonna act like this is really any sort of impact on the 2024 team. |

Go get Kyle Pitts!!!!!!

Another injury? Beetle Peach is going to have to earn his money this year.
|
He's taken almost 100 snaps on offense this year. That's actually quite a bit more than I expected. At least 10 every game.

If Hopkins delivers, we won't need 3 TE sets anyways. Put in an eligible linemen at TE on the goal line if you want. But other than that, the offense SHOULDN'T miss a beat at all. Just sucks for him to get injured at practice as a rookie.
|
Wiley played 17 snaps last week and 10 the week before
|
I’ve been looking at it this way…
The Chiefs purposefully let Jody move on to Miami this offseason. Brought in Wiley to be a replacement. And yet they ended up signing Jody back and installing him as TE3 at the first opportunity after seeing Wiley for months in their practices. Best wishes and all that, his story isn’t finished, but all signs before this injury pointed toward more of a Skyy Moore career outlook than a Noah Gray. Just my .02 and it’s probably not popular. |

I know billay’s got a nice tight end!!! |

Yeah. 4th round pick. Good idea. Looked promising. Sometimes those guys are late bloomers but sometimes they don’t work. It happens. We all thought we had a future starting guard from that 5th round tackle we got in the Skyy trade down. Turns out no. Whatever. |

When we lose a player for the season - we come up with reasons why he wasn’t good. When we draft a player - we come up with reasons why he’ll be great |
Torn ACL

Wonder if Steele can step in and do at least some of what Wiley was doing. Wiley ran almost no routes, was almost exclusively a blocker.
|
JJSS probably out till January. Dude is fra-gee-lay
|
Jeez, now we have guys blowing out their knees in practice? Yikes.

Probably better to save him for when it counts. |

And if you know me, you also know I’m about as glass half full as it gets here. So for me to say I think a guy isn’t any good this early in his career… probably not a good sign but I’d love him to prove me wrong as ever. |

Is this hyperbole or was there a report I missed? |
Patrick has not won a Super Bowl without Blake Bell. The KC Chiefs have not won a Super Bowl without a Bell

He’s currently on Houston’s practice squad. He’s probably getting taken from them and signed to our active roster to replace Wiley. |
It's a damn shame and a real worry to see us lose a player every fecking week. Hope he has a smooth recovery and bounces back strong next season as he does have decent potential imo..
Hendershot will get a chance now and Veach will have to look for another option somewhere. |

At some point the impact on the football team is part of the conversation. |

This is bad for Wileys long term development but honestly from this seasons perspective this is a blessing in disguise. Only reason Wiley is on the roster and not on the Squad is because he's a 3rd round pick. This will help alot with special team depth and blocking this year
|
Unfortunate timing…

Welp, I guess we aren't running much if any 13P for awhile.

well that's unfortunate

Is there really any conditioning you can do to prevent ACL tears seems like usually they're from moving or falling weird
Maybe call the knees over toes guy? |
Quote:
If that will help to ease the pain. |
Frees up a roster spot for someone who may actually contribute. We had too many TE's anyway.

I said we would be our own obstacle and second but more serious were injuries. This was my biggest fear and at just 7 games in, we have been crushed by major players with major injuries. We really need a break heading into the last 10 regular season games. Hoping for the injury bug to be cured.. |
Quote:
Yah, totally agree. We've been so lucky for the most part about injuries during this run, been waiting for awhile now for the other shoe to finally drop. Feels like this season might be the one, though obviously we all hope not. |

Key players on opposing teams roster in the playoffs or SB could have injury as well to even things out. Like Hutchinson on the Lions team for example. That would be one form of a "break" to help us out. |
Quote:
We've been on the right side of that sort of thing for a long time now. Just one example, for the SB, SF was missing Hufanga, their best S, Greenlaw went down, Deebo got dinged, one of their better CBs got hurt, etc. And when we played them a couple weeks ago, same thing; no Hufanga, no Greenlaw, etc. Iirc, LAC was down several key starters including an OT. NOR had to start Rattler. Several of their starting OLs have been out. Taysom Hill couldn't go. And this week TB, the top offense in the league, is without both their starting WRs, and on defense they're without their CB2, CB3, best coverage LBs . . . It's not rocket science how we've been struggling to put points up, but keep winning one-score games vs. some of the 'top' offensive teams in the league. |
