Pro Bowl LT DJ Humphries [signed by Chiefs]
Does Veach give him a call?

I've never heard of this guy and believe we should sign him.
|
I don't think we will, no.
Andy's as hard-headed with OL continuity as Spags is with his LBs. When you get the job, you have the job. And there's seemingly little that can be done to displace you. |
THANKS SHOWTIME FOR GETTING US A NEW TACKLE 500 HERE WE COME!

He had a decent 2022 and 2023 seasons, according to PFF. Nothing stellar but may be worth a look...

Bring him in for a look. What can it hurt? (Smith also) Morris goes down to injury, he can fill in, OR, start if he's better and give Wanya (and Suma) some lessons on what a Pro Bowl LT knows.

Andy checking out his christmas cookies game before making a decision
|
This needs to happen if this guy is healthy. He is a slightly above average LT at age 30. That is unheard of to find in free agency, especially mid-season. We should literally be hunting him down like a pack of wolverines. If you can get him to sign at least a 2-year deal, you have some stability at that position going forward.
They aboslutely should be all freaking over this. |
Prob wants multi year deal no?
|
Quote:
So I'd be fine bringing in just about anyone at this point. But I'd bet that Andy just won't be. It's not his style. Not on the OL. He gets a little married to his WRs but he gets REAL committed to his OL. It pretty much takes an injury to get you out of the starting lineup once you get about 3-4 games into the season with the job. |
Quote:
You know Veach isn't going to offer more than a deal for the rest of this year, so hopefully he'll bet on himself and try to cash in blocking for the best QB and HC on Earth. |
They really do need to bring in a warm body they're willing to play at the position.
|
Quote:
Any multi-year deal he signs mid-season will be pretty awful. If you're Humphries, you probably want a chance at playing time to set yourself up for a push in FA this off-season. A multi-year deal would be a bad option for him, IMO. Because he's not going to get a strong multi-year deal with any meaningful guarantees at this point in the season. |

Quote:
If a multi-year deal were to show up now, it would've shown up in August. Anybody willing to offer him more than a make-good deal would've already been willing to do so just to let him rehab in their system and learn their playbook. And he'd have been happy to take that because he'd have access to team facilities as part of his rehab process. I don't think one was out there and if one ever was, it must've been a pretty lousy one. In which case, he's going to be better served finding someplace he can play meaningful snaps down the stretch to get himself back into FA on an upswing in 2025. We're a nice fit for him if we're interested. I just question if we truly are. |
Quote:
This really just needs to happen. I simply have no faith going into the playoffs with Morris at LT. You're just asking for a disaster of epic proportions. |
Quote:
But unless the team they last played for wants them back, any of those guys are going to have to sign onto a practice squad, spend a week (or two) proving they're in game-shape and then maybe they'll get a shot at a starting nod. Teams aren't going to just sign a guy as a starter now absent catastrophic injury to an established guy. And if they're a non-contender, they may look to get a young guy those reps instead. So your list of possibilities is pretty short. Maybe 12-14 teams that might make an in-season move for a veteran starter option. And with 2 other solid veteran SFAs out there, they could end up without a chair when the music stops. If any of those guys wants to play this year, they'd better start listening to these practice squad opportunities. That's their path forward (again, returning to a previous team being the exception). |
Cap space is a problem.. This guy probably won’t play on the cheap.. If this happens another restructuring will probably happen.. Although with 7 games left I would think the salary would be pro-rated…
|
At this point I don't think any of them do. Any contract they sign will be for relative peanuts and it's a pretty unlikely proposition to play themselves into a much bigger contract in 2025. So may as well sit on the couch and not risk injury, especially since all 3 aren't exactly bastions of health.
|
I would absolutely look at him if it means we don’t shell out a **** ton of draft picks to move up for a LT ruining the teams future

Well played sir, well played. :thumb: |

|
We can't get crazy here. Every Superbowl we've won, or even been in for that matter, has had a different starter at LT.
Fisher, OBJ, and Smith were the LTS on the championship teams. Who says you need continuity at the blind side? |
Quote:
The only question is, do they? |
Quote:
It really makes too much sense not to happen, I hope like hell they are all over this. |
Quote:
|
Umm yes please!
|
Let’s go!
|
Wait, so there is a starting caliber LT, not on the doorstep of retirement, that we can just pick up? Just like that? Why isn’t he here yet then is my only question.
|
Get er done Veachy
|
Piece of shit
sign this yet did we? |
So you’re telling me there’s a chance?
|
Quote:
Can you imagine Kingsley or Driskell having to step in if Morris went down in a playoff game? I mean my God, it would be the most irresponsible thing Veach and Reid have ever allowed to happen. |
**** it, I'm in.

Pay him in SB rings...
|
Saying you stepped in and elevated the Chiefs offense to be able to win a Super Bowl is a pretty good bargaining chip for his next contract.
|
Tires, look, tank, etc.
|
Makes an awful lot of sense.
|
Hopkins, Brown, and Humphries all played in Arizona together.
Also, Humphries and Jawaan Taylor played together at Florida. It's destiny. |
Squeeze his fatass into a fast plane and get him up here pronto.
|
Tell him that if he can keep Mahomes from getting hit, he'll get to act in his very own state farm commercial

Is this a better choice than a healthy Smith that knows the playbook(mostly)? Honest question as I always default to “trust in Veach.”
|
**** how is Morris and Kingsley still our two LT options, blows my mind. We will probably pass on this unit and instead sign another WR practice squad cast away
|
No idea I’d I think they’ll do anything but at this point….JAG+ is an improvement

However, I almost think they’d be foolish not to look into this long term. We need a goddamn LT, and this guy has at least 3-4 more good years in him if he’s healthy. We’re losing Trey next year so the interior is already going to be weaker. This would fill a massive short-term and long-term need without having to wait until the offseason to do it. This really needs to happen. |

Can he play LT?
Wait, wut? |
This would be outstanding, but I wouldn't hold my breath
Andy is bullheaded to a fault about the O line |
Hey Bart, Have we bring him in to sign this lunchpail who live close to the ship yet?
|
Quote:
With that said, DJ is right. They aren't making a move this late in the year. Pat "doesn't trust" who he has now, can't imagine they give him more to think about 12 weeks into the season. |
I feel pretty confident that if they can afford him, they'll do it. If for no other reason, Morris always seems to get hurt even though he typically comes back. There's no way they trust anybody other than him at this point.

Me thinks we're going all in as is at this point. Don't see it.

There is a 100% chance Veach has been in contact...its a perfect scenario for a returning OL. Get exposure on the biggest draw in sports for nine high profile games...great chance of a SB ring...then cash in next off season.
...or play for the Giants who fired their QB today. |

This is the final piece of the puzzle.
As it is written. |

You get Humphrey, get Pacheco, Omenihu, and Hollywood back, then your only real glaring weakness is CB2. We can overcome that.
|
IF there is going to be any movement on Humphries, it will be next week at the earliest...make no sense to sign him for this weekend's game. We should beat Carolina with one hand tied behind our back.
