Sturgill Simpson Was the Best Show of 2024

Been listening to his shows on Nugs.net.

Straight fire, all gasoline, no brakes.

I read that a pug won first prize at the national dog show for the first time ever. Is that what we're talking about?

He’s country/indie/psychadelic rock royalty.

Came back from 3+ years on IR due to blown out vocal chords.

You catch his concert in Belize?

nychief 12-12-2024 09:37 PM

Saw him twice. Just out of this world.

Nice!! Where at?

Last time I saw him was Memphis in May.

Don’t sleep on Billy Strings on nugs. His widely available content, while good, doesn’t really communicate the diversity of material and styles he brings to his live show.

I don't understand why anyone would go to a rap concert

Third Eye 12-13-2024 09:41 AM

I really enjoy High Top, Metamodern, and Sailor's Guide, but the last few haven't really done much for me. Admittedly, I haven't listened to the latest under the name Johnny Blue Skies.

I'm glad he got Laur back in the band.

I love Billy, but man, I can't stand the fanbase. I don't want to sound like a grumpy old fart and I shouldn't be bothered by his success, but he got too damn big, too damn fast. I miss the smaller club days when the crowd was mostly the typical jamgrass crowd. Now it's much more of a Phish scene and I just can't do it.

Sturgill’s the best. Seen him a few times in Austin.

I mean... I followed Phish and the Dead when I was in my teens and 20s, so that doesn't really bother me. I went to Tulsa this week, and there were definitely a lot of wooks, though.

I'm mad at myself for not just camping over in Tulsa for 3 nights. Had:
Billy Strings at BOK on Tuesday
Wilco at Cains on Tuesday, Wednesday
Zach Bryan at BOK on Thursday, Friday, Saturday. (speaking of getting too big and having an insufferable fan base).

I have no idea who this person is ...

ThrobProng 12-13-2024 12:34 PM

Wheeler Walker Jr. is even better.

Oh yeah, I freely admit being a (mostly sober) 48 year old shapes my opinion here.

I really wanted to see Wilco at a smaller (and historic) venue like Cains.

Work schedule ****ed me over.

The best show of 2024 hasn’t even happened yet. It’s on December 31st at the most legendary venue in Jamaica. National Heroes Park in Kingston, same place the Smile Jamaica concert happened. My favorite artist ever! He’s as big as Bob Marley on the island.

Vybz Kartel spent the last 14 years in prison, had to take his case to the highest court which is the Privy Council in the UK to finally get his case overturned. Since his release in July, this is his first concert. 3 hour show with all his biggest songs, and lots of special guests. A concert 14 years in the making. I’m absolutely supposed to there, but would cost about 4K to make happen. I’m not as rich as those who vacation in Belize with hotties. FML
