Famous people you met that were jerks
Eric Dickerson
|
I met George Straight many years ago and he was really cool. Seemed like a down to earth nice guy.
|
Matthew McConaughey (1998)
OJ Simpson (1996) |
Everyone I have met that is/was famous have been pretty cool. The closest one to being a jerk was probably George Brett.
|
Tony Gonzalez and Marcus Allen during their playing days. Love what they did on the field. Quite rude off the field from my personal experience. Saw them both exhibiting some serious & unnecessary diva behavior towards fans. Who knows? Maybe they were having a bad day.

Jeff Daniels- Cool
Derrick Thomas- cool |

When I was in Vegas out a fancy night club, there was some road rules or real world "celebrity" that required a perimeter around their table that nobody was allowed to walk through. I was about to walk through it and some security guy was like "you're too close"

I mentioned this years ago on here, but my wife and Sheri Moon Zombie (Skurkis) were best friends in high school, and we went to a small Christmas party at their house some years ago. I looked at old movie posters, talked about movies, and played air hockey for about three hours with Rob. He couldn’t have been cooler.
We had an Athletic Trainer that was Tito Ortiz’s personal trainer for nine years during his MMA/UFC hey day. We hung out with him for the better part of an entire weekend once (he was married to Jenna Jameson at the time). He was incredibly nice, and acted just like a big kid; bought dinner, picked up the tab, posed for pictures, cracked wise with people. I always thought he was a complete jackass before meeting him, but he was the total opposite. There’s a Bravo reality show called ‘Southern Charm’ filmed here in Charleston, and they filmed an episode where I used to work. I spent an evening around the cast and film crew showing them where they could or couldn’t go, etc. My wife knows everyone’s names, but with the exception of one guy— the entire cast were a bunch of entitled c u n t s. Just miserable, snotty people. |
Met CarrotTop in Luxor Las Vegas elevator. Nice guy. Gracious.
|
Will Wheaton was an absolute ass when I met him at a con in the late 90s. I think he's chilled out since then and accepted that he'll always have peaked with Wesley Crusher.
|
Met Alexandra Tydings (Aphrodite in the 99s Hercules show) at a con in 99. She was very cool, and even more attractive in person. Talked to me for about 30 minutes. For whatever reason, the other nerds at the con didn't seem that interested in talking with her. Very down to earth and interesting.

Seemed like a nice guy to me. |
Met Bill Clinton one time after he was president and shook his hand. Then I remembered that you can never be sure where that hand has been.
Had a long interaction with Nick Lowery at an airport 25 years ago and that guy was the coolest. He helped me get on a different flight when ours was cancelled. Took a picture with Bryce Harper at the DC fan fest and he addressed me as “sir”. Very professional. Bumped into Jim Ryun a few times, he wasn’t friendly at all and I know his family. Met your KS representative Sharice at an event and talked with her. I don’t share most of her politics but she was very nice. |

Justin Houston came into my old job once and was a complete dick. Eric Berry and Dexter McCluster were super nice guys though. |
Tony G. Colossal DBAG
Joe Satriani. Met him at a small guitar shop in Lenexa KS where he was promoting his new signature amp line. I think the store had like maybe 75-100 tickets you could buy for like $20 and proceeds donated to local music charities . The scope closed its doors to only ticket holders for a few hours. He played right there in front of us for probably a hour which was awesome. Answered questions about the amps demonstrated techniques etc etc. then had a table set up and people could get autograph. my wife got our ticket stubs from the G3 concert at the Uptown signed. I brought my Ibanez electric and had it in the trunk of my car, and when I got to him in the line I asked If he signed guitars, to which he said of course. He signed the guitar and it’s been in a Gig bag unplayed ever since lol he was super nice. Mingled with people etc. George Brett … fell from the same dick tree as Tony. |
I've met Clay a few times. Contrary to popular opinion, he's a pretty nice guy.
|
Once took a piss next to Jerry Tarkanian in The KC Municipal Auditorium during a BB tourney. Normal guy.
|
Shocked at the Tony Gonzales commentary. I've seen him twice and has no issues.
First time was at a celebrity bowling event here in Vegas. He was pleasant and engaging. Second time was more of an experience rather than a "meet him" was in Ensenada Mexico... Had just gotten off a cruise ship and was walking around. We walked by this cantina and there was a table with football players drinking. Tony G was leaning back in a chair and went to far and fell over on his back, hysterically laughing. Was pretty damned funny. |
Through a bunch of circumstances (family, work, life) I’ve meet a large amount of famous people. They’ve all been cool. But I’ve never acted anything other than normal/kind/cordial to them. When you act that way towards people, regardless of who they are, they tend to act that way back.

Bo Jackson was a complete dick to my best friend as a kid when they were filming a Cheerios commercial in my neighborhood in Lawrence back in the 80's. Essentially, he looked at him and said "I already signed something for you" even though he hadn't. I mean we were like 9 years old and he was standing in my front yard - sign the ****ing card. Bo was his favorite player right up until that moment. After, he traded away all his Bo baseball cards because of the interaction. Thinking I may still have a few of them in the attic (of course I capitalized, who wouldn't? it's freaking Bo Jackson).

Met Joe Phillips at an elementary school his daughter was attending in 95 and he was really nice. Other than being the biggest mountain of a man I have ever met in person he was just like any other dad there. Seriously looked like a block of granite.
Brief encounter with Brett at an indoor baseball training facility back in the 90's when I was still playing baseball in a men's league. Pretty full of himself, but didn't see anything surprisingly dickish. John Mayberry on the other hand was super nice laid back and cool, and stopped by my cage to give me some pointers. |
Found one iteration of the Commercial: It was filmed in Lawrence because they wanted to use the entrance to the Haskell football stadium (the shot of the big cement arch with the kids). The last scene where Bo is showing the kids how to swing the bat was in my front yard. They liked the tree with all the low branches so they moved over and did it in our yard.

I met that Mahomes dude in the spring of '18 when he was at Tyreek's charity basketball deal at Rockhurst. We were able to walk right to him and say hi. My kid got a card signed but I just shook his hand and chatted a few minutes. He was pretty cool.

There’s been several but a couple of sports people that stand out are:
Dontari Poe in Scottsdale at a chipotle while he was still a Chief. Was training and super cool dude. Chuck Liddell At Lego Land. Was over the top nice stand next to him in line. Took pics and just couldn’t be nicer. Maybe cause he was with his kids? Still very nice |

I've met quite a few but the most famous was probably Dennis Hopper. Super cool. |
Going into the way back machine - Joanna Kerns. It was at Vail and as I came off the ski lift, someone asked me if I would take a picture for them. This was back so far they handed me an actual camera. So I was doubly pissed when I recognized her and she was snotty to me even though I was doing her a favor.

I've met a handful. I always think its kind of weird meeting someone famous and somewhat uncomfortable/awkward. I've decided it's cooler to admire people from a distance.
Anyhow, the only negative one I had was also George Brett. Not to pile on the guy but he was an asshole. We were eating at a restaurant on the plaza before homecoming in the 90s (started with a V but I can't remember the name of the place). He and Lisa were there and a few of us went to his table to say hi and he flipped out. Essentially told us to **** off and leave him alone. Didn't make me dislike him or anything though. |
Met Mr T at Walmart in Liberty years ago… He was very nice but his wife was annoyed I walked up to them..
|
I worked with Kirstie Alley and Gary Busey on two separate shows at the Orpheum in Wichita.
Both are/were absolute dickheads of the 9th degree. |
Will Shields is the only Chiefs player I've met. Shortly after his retirement at a bar on the Plaza. Didn't talk long but I just came over to thank him for his work on and off the field.
|
Tony Gonzalez but he’s still one of my favorite Chiefs player

Priest Holmes. Actually saw the guy rudely turn down the request of a kid with downs syndrome who asked him for an autograph in a hotel lobby.
He was walking with T.Rich and Gonzo, both of whom signed the kid's football and posed for pictures with thr kid and his family. My opinion of Priest changed that day. I understand that an athlete is under no obligation to sign anything from anybody. But the way he rudely turned that kid down was shocking. Maybe he had his reasons. But you could definitely tell the kid had downs syndrome, and was just so excited to see the players, especially Priest. The kid was even wearing a #31 jersey. Un-****ing believable how it all went down. |

I met Dwayne Johnson (when he was still "The Rock") and Kobe Bryant at Gold's Gym in Venice...both super nice.
Met Magic Johnson at Benihana in L.A. and he was also really nice. |

So you're probably right and that he just did not want the attention of any kind. But I think there are better ways to handle that situation than to shout, " NO! GET OUT OF MY WAY!" at a kid with downs syndrome and make the kid cry. |
I guess that I'm lucky that every celebrity I met has been nothing short of gracious and even engaging to ask me questions, even when they were not in some kind of work event and just in normal life:
-Dolly Parton -John Mayer -Travis Kelce -Dallas Clark -Nicole Kidman -Sheryl Crow -Lionel Richie |
Met Laremy Tunsil at Best Buy in Olathe a minute ago!

I met Penz.
He was really mean and called me stupidhead. |
John Mayberry on the other hand was super nice laid back and cool, and stopped by my cage to give me some pointers.[/QUOTE]
Met John Mayberry at a sports bar during early Marty Ball era. I grew up in the same neighborhood, but I knew the kid that had his lawn-mowing on lockdown, so I never met him back in the day. Nice guy. |

Closest I’ve ever come to an awkward interaction with someone of notoriety was Dante Hall. Went to say hello to him before a Chiefs game and shake his hand and at the exact same time I came up to him he dropped his sunglasses on the ground and broke them. Guy was immediately irritated so I awkwardly walked away cause he was too bothered to say anything back.

A friend in college had a little brother who was in the same grade as one of Bo's kids at school. I guess they had gone to birthday parties at Bo's house. Said it was a great even and the whole family was super nice. |

I tried to get an autograph from Charles Barkley back in the 1980s while he on his way to the team bus after a game. I was a basketball junkie at the time.
He said, "Not today, kid" and kept walking. I was disappointed when it happened, but now I totally understand. Plus, just being spoken to by Barkley was almost as good as getting the autograph. |
Chatted with some of the Cowsills family at a Heart of Illinois fair performance after everyone had left. Seemed to enjoy us treating them like regular folks. Didn't even want autographs from them. I was hot for that young girl singer that was about my age.

I have met a ton of politicians in Missouri that are both Democratic and Republican, and with no exceptions, they were all very accommodating and very kind. Not all of them were particularly sharp, but every single one of them was affable.
A couple came off as greasy? But not overtly, just in a kind of a kinda-comes-off-as type of way. |
Raquel Welch reader' digest vesion:
My late Uncle was KCPD and did a lot of escort (motorcycle) or driving of Celebs in town. As he told it to the best of my memory: He was taking Raquel and her companion (forgot name) to or from the old airport during bad winter weather. The car would occasionally slide around at intersections that night , and the companion kept telling Uncle to slow down, be careful etc. etc. Eventually Raquel had had enough and told her friend to "shut the **** up and let the officer drive". Uncle thought that was pretty cool. |
Briana Banks tousled my hair while performing onstage at Bazookas in KC
I'm convinced she was into me |
Mike Tyson was a total dick to me when I pestered him on a flight. Gave me a right cross.
Okay, that wasn't me, but... My wife grew up in Brentwood and when she and her friends were trick-or-treating, they rang the doorbell of Betty White and Alan Luddin. Rather than just giving them candy, they invited them in and chatted for a while (insert pedo jokes here). She said they were just the nicest people. |
I met Rob Schneider after a comedy event once and he was extremely nice. I could tell he was tired from doing a few shows, but he was still very nice and made time to chat with me for a few minutes after having met a lot of other fans. Henry Winkler was the same way. The only “celebrity” I’ve met that was a total dick was a nascar driver named Ryan Newman.
