A Level Headed Review Week 15 2024

Justin Reid booming the kickoffs still

Moving Thuney to LT is a successful move. Patrick has way more time in the pocket through the first quarter.

Pacheco and Hunt are a deadly combination. They both have the ability to break 10+ yard runs. Hunt just does it with more power and Pacheco with more speed and aggression.

Karlaftis showing up early in this game with lots of pressure and 2 sacks. I think having Jones and Omenihu out there at the same time really helps free him up.

Offense still struggling to get a good rhythm, seems like Worthy is just a tad off on where he needs to be when Pat throws the ball. Deep balls continue to be an issue either there is no separation or Pat chucks it too far.

Hopkins continues to just make fantastic catches. Pat really trusts him and will throw it in the smallest of windows to him. Anyone else notice that Hopkins has dropped that "pony tail" thing he had wrapped in trainers tape in favor oh his locks flowing again. I wish we could get that with some of the other WR's. I feel like Juju has that trust as well he just doesn't get as many opportunities.

Last offensive drive of the 1st half was a solid combination of runs and good catches. Noah Grey has become quite the solid red zone target for Mahomes.

Strange series of events with Garrett getting a strange face/eye injury and then Connor on the next series getting a concussion.

Johnson really coming up big after the Connor injury and knocking the 4th down pass down giving KC the opportunity for a score late in the first half.

Winning the turnover battle really helps with the punt fumble and Cook INT. Bolton with the nice INT on the first play of the 2nd half. Great play to get his hand on the ricochet and pull it in off of Chubb. The concentration he has to have to be able to snag that ball and pull it in. Chenal with the timely punch out of Chubb creating the 4th TO on the day for the Chiefs. Then McDuffie with the INT for 5 TO's. Hicks with an INT to end the game and get 6 TO's. That puts us as +2 on the year in turnovers.

Worthy with the nice catch and run for the TD...BUT he holds the ball like a loaf of bread, I have noticed this a few times in the past. He needs to tuck that ball, that's gonna come back to haunt him at some point.

The third quarter was really frustrating to watch. Don't know what the Browns were doing but having 9 incompletions in a row for Pat was frustrating to say the least.

Pat getting hurt in the 4th looks like an ankle again, getting trapped under a tackler and then bent backwards.https://i.ibb.co/42rrKPg/IMG-6484.jpg

Wentz does a good job in relief finding the open WR's.

Mahomes looked pretty awful today, honestly. I really hate to see him injured.

Coach 12-15-2024 03:17 PM

This team is very good at causing the most anxiety and chaos. I'll give them that.

I really want to watch the All 22 on this one - 'm not sure what the issue was today. Wentz seemed to hit Hopkins and Worthy right at the perfect moment for a completion but Pat was struggling with that. Makes me wonder if he is over compensating to only take the safest throws right now

Rexx 12-15-2024 03:40 PM

The inability to protect their franchise QB is concerning, every week Mahomes is under duress and now an injured ankle. I don't recall Manning and Brady having to constantly deal with this kind of pressure. Not sure if it's Online or coaching, but enough already.

Mahomes has always preferred to move around in the pocket and not stay still. The ankle injury was a fluke oh him doing his jump shot pass. Didn't have anything to do with the protection. We actually were much better today (ZERO SACKS) than we have been all season.

DenverChief 12-15-2024 04:01 PM

The third quarter was atrocious though.

Rexx 12-15-2024 04:04 PM

Fair enough, but it's not passing the eye test and only a matter of time until Mahomes is hurt more seriously imo. Hope I'm wrong.

Not sure when his contract expires or if he will hit free agency but I would be pretty excited to see the Chiefs pick up Jerome Ford if he becomes available. Big guy with speed.

It has been for the last several games.

Today the inability to hit on those deep passes was not the pass protection or the WR’s… it was Mahomes.

He doesn’t even give the receiver a chance… with the ball severely overthrown.

RunKC 12-15-2024 04:25 PM

5 sacks
Zero sacks allowed by OL
Forced 6 turnovers
No passing TD’s allowed

Feels like a game from the twilight zone. The complete opposite of what we’ve seen all season

Yeah the timing is off. It’s like they are so focused on fixing everything else they don’t have time to practice the deep ball

LongSufferingToady 12-15-2024 05:05 PM

I'd like to see Pat take a seat for the next game. I don't know what's going on with him, besides absolutely no protection from the O-line whatsoever, and he needs to deal with whatever is happening with himself.

Against the Texans?

HonestChieffan 12-15-2024 06:01 PM

If they play Buffalo or Detroit like they played today they will be destroyed

Yeah, actually. This is the 3 week gauntlet we complained about all off-season, and this team is gassed. Bench the starters, start Wentz. **** it.

Buehler445 12-15-2024 08:26 PM

Good wrietup DC.

I was enjoying the game and not really paying attention to the stats as the game went on. I was ****ing shocked when I looked and they turned it over 6 ****ing times. Then, yep, yep, yep, sure as ****. 6. Christ. I told the wife the Chiefs are playing horrible and winning handily. That's why. But we're not the only ones. Fins turned it over 4 times. Chargers got destroyed (and turnovers got blamed), There were 8 in the Donk/Colts game. Must be a full moon or some shit.

Mahomes had a rough out. Obviously the injury is a thing, his deep balls were bad. There were a couple balls that could have been picked. He got hit almost every ****ing time he didn't hand off.

I think it might be time (at least with a lead) to check down and give your guy a shot on third and long. There was a 3rd and 12 where Perine had a lot of space and Mahomes ran to the right, got hit, and barely got the ball off. Hindsight, obviously but the best shot was let Perine work. He whipped some pussies earlier in the game.

There are quite a few good things. Mahomes appears to be forcing the ball to X, which other than the deep routes appears to be working. I only saw one drop and he threw X open a few times. Those were some really good plays.

Myles Garrett didn't cause too many problems, which is good. I still have no clue what went on with his eye.

Finally got some picks, but I'm not sure those don't get an asterisk because the Browns need to be relegated. All that being said, the Browns have some real talent and it didn't kill us.

I'm sure there will be much consternation about "Andy abandoning the run!" I'd need to rewatch, but there were a lot of poor/negative running plays that put is in 3rd and long. And while Garrett Didn't kill us, 3rd and long is a hell of a good way to let him kill you. Maybe we should have pounded it more, but it's not like it was an automatic 3 yards.

13-1 Bitches. If only Detroit would have not been ****edy ****tarded we could have made real headway towards rest. ****sburgh helped us out and Houston looked bad.

Onto the next.

Thanks for some common sense when the rest of CP has been a bunch of reeruns

I think Patrick’s one weakness … is that he really struggles throwing a wet ball.

He’s had a handful of games over the years in conditions like today, and he always seems to struggle throwing the football accurately/consistently.

I’m sure the ankle will be fine, and we’ll hear more about it.

I think they can beat the Texans with Wentz, if needed, too.

He has smallish hands but he’s always overcome it because he has a unique grip on the ball. Seems ok in cold and snow, but I wonder how much it affects his grip in the wet

That's what happens when you play the Browns

He was pressured 54% of the time which is the most since 2020. Mahomes was running for his life. Thuney did ok but it wasn’t great. The offensive line has been awful this year.

I hope they give Mahomes a week off. He is banged up and it will be short turnaround for the Christmas game. We need him healthy for the playoffs.

We have horrible protection, so Why are we throwing deep all the time? Why don’t we throw more screens or shirt and quick passes? Why aren’t we running more to give Mahomes a break from the pressure? I have hated the play calling recently. It seemed like we were running much more when Hunt first started and now we are getting away from it.

Our offense seems broken. I hope humphries comes back and solidifies the line for us. I hope we change our play calling. A healthy brown might help. No one is in rhythm.

But we are 13-1! Our defense played out of their minds. Plus Winston was in a giving mood today.

Some of that was by design - allowing rushers through for screens and swing passes. Yes he was pressured but we went from 1.5 seconds to 4 seconds of a stable pocket. That’s a huge win.

That might be a good observation.

He absolutely destroyed the Donks a few years ago in the snow, throwing it all over the yard while the Donks couldn't do shit (Drew Lock IIRC).

But it might be a thing.

Until our backup QB throws 2 picks (it frenquently happended in the past), we lose at home to the Texans, and then end up dropping one of the final two...the way the Bills are playing, this is the year we need the #1 seed to get them at home.

I would have to rewatch but the only play where I thought he had a good pocket was the td to grey. Thuney was getting manhandled and Patrick had to move really quick. Thuney did better than Morris but it isn’t saying much. The stats did show 54% pressure which I guess could be by design but a collapsing pocket isn’t great.

I am afraid that this will be a 2020 season where we can’t hang with the bills offensively in the playoffs due to our offensive line. 21 points on six turnovers is not good. I was concerned last year too at this time and we saw what happened. Hopefully we get it sorted out.

Incorrect. Mahomes has had some great games in snow and wet nasty conditions

He is not a disaster in wet conditions but it is not one of his stronger suits. Snow is different because in a lot of ways it helps with gripping the football. He’s been exceptional in the snow.

This game was coaching the play calling it was almost as if they were trying to use the game as practice

Just a couple months ago he played a great game throwing for three touchdowns (one of his sharper games this year) against the Bucs in rainy conditions. That’s also the only game all year we’ve scored 30 points.
