Lions Injuries

Lions chances of winning the SB getting dimmer and dimmer with all the hits they are taking...in fact, I think the NFC will be represented by GB or Philly.

<blockquote class="twitter-tweet"><p lang="en" dir="ltr">Lions HC Dan Campbell told reporters the initial belief is that Alim McNeill and Carlton Davis suffered injuries that “could be season-ending”.</p>&mdash; Adam Schefter (@AdamSchefter) <a href="https://twitter.com/AdamSchefter/status/1868467610339430474?ref_src=twsrc%5Etfw">December 16, 2024</a></blockquote> <script async src="https://platform.twitter.com/widgets.js" charset="utf-8"></script>

That team is done and it’s entirely due to injuries.

Feeling an intense sense of gratitude right now for the Chiefs to be where they are and have already accomplished what they’ve done. Not sure the Lions ever bounce back from this to be that good again.

htismaqe 12-16-2024 11:18 AM

Exactly. The Chiefs got all these injuries early in the season and still managed only one loss. The worst is over for the Chiefs. It's just starting for the Lions.

notorious 12-16-2024 11:22 AM

The Lions will never get to experience the “Lost to the Chiefs in the Super Bowl” hangover.

Sad really.

At this point, the NFC is Philly’s to blow and if they did, I’d pick LA or GB before I would pick the Lions and this scab defense.

Sassy Squatch 12-16-2024 11:24 AM

Oof. Montgomery may be the biggest loss yet.

Gary Cooper 12-16-2024 11:24 AM

They need to work on their onside kicks.

Sounds like the defense won't be stopping anybody.

It’s big but it’s not like losing your two best All-Pro caliber defensive linemen, which they now have.

McNeill is a brutal loss for them.

That defense is MUCH better when he's on his game. And it's seemed like he's been struggling with dings/injuries all year.

He was, similar to Hollywood for us, a key to unlocking their ceiling. He's one of those guys that can generate genuine pressure from a 0-technique. Those are more rare even than Jones ability to do so from a 1/3 technique.

He's a hell of a player that seemed to be finding his form again over the 2nd half. And that defense was thin anyway - they were flat-out bad last season and they needed every one of the additions they made to get to decent.

Yeah - they're gonnna look a lot like the 2018 Chiefs but I don't think Goff is the sort of guy that can pull a game from the fire. He's not a guy who can give them three of the pristine games they'll need from him to get to the SB.

That's brutal.

Hope they enjoyed all the credit they got for dog-walking shitty teams. Because that's going to be the apex of their season. They may struggle to keep Minnesota behind them at this point.

Hoover 12-16-2024 11:28 AM

Its not new that teams without competent defenses don't win Super Bowls. Just ask your Dick Vermiel Chiefs...

Its the fatal flaw with the Lions, Bills, and Ravens imo.

I don't think the Steelers have the juice, but I could see them sending someone good home early in the playoffs. I think the Eagles are in a great spot, but don't sleep on the Vikings.

Otter 12-16-2024 11:29 AM

I wouldn't mind watching my boyz kick Philly's ass again to put a smile on Andy's face.

pugsnotdrugs19 12-16-2024 11:29 AM

They’re going to lose to either Min or Chi and allow Philly to take the BYE.

That defense is so ****ed up currently it kind of mitigates those losses if that makes sense. Being able to ride both Montgomery and Gibbs was a vital aspect of that offense that is now gone.

If Minnesota beats them, they have a really clean path to the bye in their own right.

The Vikings will get Seattle likely without Geno next week (and Howell was a disaster last night). So it'll come down to beating the Packers and I just don't buy them as being a really good team. Love makes too many weird decisions.

Minnesota could easily get the 1 out of the NFC.

Sassy Squatch 12-16-2024 11:33 AM

Jesus. 14 players on the Lions defense are seriously hurt.

MahomesMagic 12-16-2024 11:34 AM

I loved Alim in his draft year. And he’s even better than I thought he would be.

Yeah, huge loss and then not having your top corner…

Brutal.

Spott 12-16-2024 11:36 AM

Should have just kicked those field goals against SF last year. You never know how long that window is going to be open.

MahomesMagic 12-16-2024 11:50 AM

I think people are sleeping on Green Bay.

As of now, they are my NFC pick for the SB.

Terrion Arnold is probably their best CB, but man he's erratic.

Perils of youth - he has games where he's just a trainwreck.

But at this point, he's probably the most important defensive player they have. Is Branch back? Those guys are going to have to play almost perfect football going forward.

Branch might have it in him - Arnold almost certainly doesn't. And they can't afford his mistakes or penalties anymore. He needs to step up massively for that defense to be even mediocre.

TinyEvel 12-16-2024 11:53 AM

Is there an NFC team the Chiefs should be afraid of?

Might this be like 2018 where whoever wins the AFC will face a lesser team in the SB?

Green Bay is a tough opponent for us.

They match up well against us.

If it’s Philly or Detroit we match up better.

From the NFC field, the Eagles are the one I would rather somebody take out before they get to the Super Bowl. A solid and pretty complete team. Then again, history tends to repeat itself with our Chiefs, so maybe another win over the Eagles is meant to be.

Eagles would be tough, IMO.

And honestly, the Rams would be a SHIT matchup for us, IMO.

Vikings with Darnold shouldn't be scary but Jefferson and Addison turn my head a bit.

The rest? Eh...not really. I think McDuffie matches up uniquely well against St. Brown and I think the Chiefs run defense can stand up to Detroits run game.

Out of the NFC, the Eagles, Vikes and Rams are the only ones that spook me. Philly's talent and weird matchup issues for Minn and LAR.

As long as they don’t have to face Tampa.

MahomesMagic 12-16-2024 12:11 PM

Spags would take away the Eagles run game and make Jalen Hurts beat us through the air.

As well as he did last SB against us doing that, I would sign up for that again.

Hammock Parties 12-16-2024 12:12 PM

Ouch. Root for the Lions to get lucky in the postseason because we'll murder them.

We need to get there first, but yeah, if we make the Bowl, I'm taking Mahomes, but there is some real heft in the NFC.

the eagles are scary. they were incredibly close to beating a better chiefs team than this one. I would def take them over Buffalo, Baltimore, or any of the other AFC contenders.

Saquon is dealing with an injury too. He's definitely slowed down the past few weeks.

scho63 12-16-2024 12:31 PM

That ****ing team all got the plague. Jesus Christ that is brutal. You play super aggressive and you take greater risks. Some just downright unlucky.

Thank you. Now I have the perfect comment for a lions fan friend if they lose in the playoffs :)

Woogieman 12-16-2024 12:49 PM

Brutal...if there is such a thing as a cursed franchise, this may be one. The entity responsible for the curse went all out this year...really overdid it. I love Green Bay's D and I've had a feeling for a few weeks they would upset Detroit in the third game. Looking better and better.

Probably about as long as the end of this season, when their OC takes a HC position.

Rain Man 12-16-2024 01:29 PM

There's no need to be concerned about the Lions. They're gonna kick teams in the teeth, and when the opponent punches them back, they're gonna smile. And when the opponent knocks them down, they're gonna get up. And on the way up, they're gonna bite the opponent's kneecap off, and they're gonna stand up. And then it's gonna take two more shots to knock them down. And on the way up, they're gonna take the opponent's other kneecap, and they're gonna get up. And then it's gonna take three shots to get them down. And when they do, they're gonna take another hunk out of the opponent.

OneTallOrder 12-18-2024 08:50 AM

I still have the Lions getting to the SB to meet the Chiefs. They just need to get the 1st seed.

O.city 12-18-2024 08:59 AM

They are probably ending up the 5 seed and making a quick exit. They can't get stops.

Not sure this injury moves the needle. Montgomery is more of a bruised and we’ve done exceptionally well against those types this year.

We struggle against the dynamic pass catchers out of the backfield so it would have always been about Gibbs.
