Guessing retirement, there are others to be cut if we needed the space.

Still weird timing.

Injury settlement? Not familiar enough with the logistics to know for sure…

Buehler445 12-16-2024 03:47 PM

Nothing there indicating for certain he's done, but he's probably done. Hopefully he's on the road to recovery. Hard to hate on the dude after hearing what he's going/gone through.

Rainbarrel 12-16-2024 03:47 PM

Very likable, too bad the play wasn't

RealSNR 12-16-2024 03:48 PM

Still better than that dumb**** Jonathan Taylor!!!

What I was going to say.

It's hard not to feel for the guy after everything he's been through. And while he was disappointing as a player, it was always gonna be hard for him to live up to the hype. Not a fan of taking RBs in the 1st round , especially guys that don't really exceed in any facet of their game.

In one of the other threads somebody made mention that the Chiefs may have been carrying him on the roster in order for him to gain enough service time for NFL benefits that veteran players get. Not sure if that's true or not but it's the only thing I've heard that at least made sense in theory.

Why? The gun didn't fire on its own. Seems to me the PSTD would be more about the shooters themselves and not the gun.

It's a shame he never lived up to the hype. I thought he was going to be a monster in the passing game.

UChieffyBugger 12-16-2024 04:01 PM

Hollywood Brown is due to get put back on the roster so i guess he takes that spot?

Anyway sending best wishes to Clyde in his journey moving forward. He's had many ups and downs with us but there is no doubt those folks in the organisation really love the guy and you could see it on the sidelines.

So all the best to him.

chiefzilla1501 12-16-2024 04:01 PM

Said last year that ceh looked like a different back. He stopped trying to wait for holes and recognized he could get strong in the legs and just move the pile. I think he went out on a real good note. We just have RBs right now that are really good where we don’t need him anymore. Wish the dude the best. Worked hard, great teammate, and much as we can bag on his play he was still part of our Super Bowl story. And knowing his recent mental health issues I hope he can use this time to get right

FloridaMan88 12-16-2024 04:05 PM

Wish him the best… but the Chiefs wasted a roster spot with him going back to the offseason when they just defaulted him into RB2 without looking to upgrade.

Gravedigger 12-16-2024 04:12 PM

And Odell cleared waivers today too, hmmmmm.

Apparently Donald Rumsfeld once said "Going to war without France is like going duck hunting without an accordion."

The 2024 version of that quote is "Going to the Super Bowl without Clyde Edwards-Helaire is like going duck hunting without an accordion".

I remember watching him at LSU and seeing how elusive he was. He was a legit playmaker. I was pumped when we drafted him. Unfortunately it never really translated to the NFL game.

He was productive until he had that hip injury against the Saints, all of his burst was gone after that.

The hip injury in his rookie season really seemed to derail him. Seems like it robbed him of some of his athleticism.

I definitely had hoped we'd use him a lot in the passing game, and for whatever reason that never materialized. He did manage 4.2 yards per carry over his career. He wasn't bad. It's actually eye-opening to me watching highlights of the last 2 seasons how many big plays he is in. Early part of 2022 there were a lot. A legit contributing member to 2 championship teams.

T-post Tom 12-16-2024 04:33 PM

You had some good moments here, including 2 SB rings. (Maybe 3. Not sure how that’ll work when the Chiefs win this next SB.) Thank you & best of luck in life, sir.

Same. I thought he had the tools Andy would take advantage of with great success.

It’s that time of year. When the Chiefs get serious and basically get rid of all the dead weight. Frustrating as hell. Did should have never been given a second contract.

True, although I’d still trust MEHHH over Steele in the playoffs with pass blocking and ball security.

ReynardMuldrake 12-16-2024 04:55 PM

Hip injuries are bad news. If I remember correctly, Bo Jackson's downfall was a hip.

Why Not? 12-16-2024 05:43 PM

He loved being a Chief and was a great teammate. Won Bowls here and was helpful at times to the overall product. He will have a career in coaching or with the player’s union or something. Wish him well and since I’m not a weird unhappy prick, I have no animosity towards him.

Rain Man 12-16-2024 05:47 PM

I remember all of the gushing predictions when he was drafted. It's unfortunate that he didn't live up to those. He was serviceable for a few years, but it seemed to me that he lacked the top speed to ever be an elite back. Good luck to him going forward unless he plays for a strong AFC team. He seems like a genuinely good guy.

I think we're going to see a renaissance of running backs. Barkley and to a lesser extent Henry are showing that elite running backs have value. In the future, I think we could see the running back position fork in the draft like the quarterback position. Elite guys will go high, and non-elite guys will go in the mid-rounds.

Good friend of mine from ASU Paul Justin played long enough to get it. It was about $50k/yr pension and a medical plan iirc. Had to have either 4 or 5 years vested, can't remember which. Think it was 4.

Bo Jackson dislocated his femur from his hip while running due to the sheer power that he had, right? Not nearly the same thing

I've never been on the Chiefs Reddit page until today. The most upvoted comment on this story is someone referring to him as "KC Legend CEH". I don't think I'm ever going to go on that Reddit page again.

Yes and No.

Barkley and He Ty are the exceptions to the rule IMO. I still think teams will draft and discard running backs. Look at all the talent I. This years draft. You could get a damn good back in the 3rd round. Run the wheels off and repeat.

jerryaldini 12-16-2024 07:16 PM

By all accounts CEH is a very fine human. He's been in nursing school and is inspired to help save lives.

Given how karma works, it won't surprise me at all if one day a CP member wakes up in an emergency room and sees CEH smiling down on him/her.

All the best to you Clyde!

Is he better than Barry word

ghak99 12-16-2024 09:23 PM

I remember a game where it seemed like not a single player could catch pass. Mahomes looked ready to kill someone after watching multiple drops. I can't remember if it was in the huddle or on the sideline, but CEH told Pat if he threw it to him he'd catch it. The next play was a reception for a big play.

That's probably the play I'll remember him for. The rest was just MEH

Marcellus 12-16-2024 10:21 PM

I saw where they likely did this to make room for Hollywood.

BossChief 12-16-2024 10:30 PM

It’s a shame his career changed in that Saints game.

He looked like he could be really good prior to his injury.

I wish the guy all the luck in being able to find peace in his mind. He absolutely deserves that.

This will sound crazy, but I was watching some highlights from our SB seasons, and he had quite a few long runs.

Nothing crazy, but he broke off a bunch of 15 to 25 yarders in the highlights.

If he didn't have to pick the hole, he was really good at getting through small gaps. But, his vision sucked and he was slow so even if he had a big hole, he was never going to run away from anyone.

If he just hadn't been a first round pick, his career may have been much better.

Fishels 12-17-2024 02:36 AM

I wish the guy well he seems like a nice guy

Maybe he can eventually bounce back with another team

At least he never dropped the ball just before crossing the goal line like the world's dumbest running back Johnathan Taylor.
