Spott 12-27-2024 04:16 PM

Damn. Didn’t realize he was that old. Always seemed like a good guy.

tredadda 12-27-2024 04:17 PM

I think he was still the anchor for Selection Sunday and March Madness.

pugsnotdrugs19 12-27-2024 04:18 PM

78 is wild, he was living good.

RealSNR 12-27-2024 04:20 PM

Was he the good Gumbel? I can't tell the difference.

Easy 6 12-27-2024 04:20 PM

Always liked him, seemed like a very affable guy

Like everyone else I didn't realize he'd aged that much, but that could just be because I haven't seen him on tv in forever

RIP, Greg

KC_Connection 12-27-2024 04:22 PM

He missed the tournament this past year for "family health reasons" and it certainly looks like now it might have been because of his health.

Megatron96 12-27-2024 04:22 PM

Damn, didn’t know he was that old. RIP

Wallcrawler 12-27-2024 04:24 PM

Wow 78 is insane. He got all the good dude vibes, while Bryant became the pinnacle of assholery.

PHOG 12-27-2024 04:28 PM

So sorry, and sure didn't realize he was 78. May he RIP

srvy 12-27-2024 04:29 PM

Brian Gumbel was the Bitch.

I always liked Greg way better than his brother Bryant.... RIP

Buehler445 12-27-2024 04:32 PM

Man, I pay little attention to announcers, but thinking back he was a part of a lot of great sports moments.

RIP

srvy 12-27-2024 04:32 PM

Yes RIP Greg you always seemed fair and impartial.

I'm glad the Post was able to use a picture of him wearing his favorite sweater.

loochy 12-27-2024 04:33 PM

Wayne Brady makes Bryant Gumbel look like Malcom X.

srvy 12-27-2024 04:37 PM

Well I learned one thing here today the bad Gumbel was Bryant not Brian. Guess I never cared to pay that much attention to the bad Gumbel

Best comment to that video: "June Cleaver sounded more authentic talking jive, he's whiter than I am and I got red hair." LOL

RealSNR 12-27-2024 05:57 PM

I also remember back when CBS got back the AFC games (1999? I think?) he was their top play by play guy and Jim Nantz was in the studio with all the jackasses.

CBS did him dirty.

Right? I always have enjoyed him on the March Madness coverage and Clark Kellogg is another guy on there that seems to never age

Bump 12-27-2024 06:27 PM

RIP

he seemed like Malcom X compared to Wayne Brady

wazu 12-27-2024 06:29 PM

Can't be said enough. This guy made Malcolm X look like Tom Brady.

scho63 12-27-2024 06:49 PM

I think he has been away from TV for a little while so we didn't see him age. Time flies.

Seemed like a humble guy

Nantz’s ego forced CBS to switch Nantz to their #1 play by play announcer and Gumbel became the studio anchor until he was eventually replaced in that role by James Brown.

Rain Man 12-27-2024 07:16 PM

RIP to the guy, but I'll admit that I'm not overly impacted by this.

I think any time you mention James Brown, you have to link an advertisement for Verizon. It's a contractual requirement.

among his greatest moments...

God as my witness I will never understand why FOX traded James Brown for Curt Menefee

Brown comes off so much smoother, and more genuinely respected...Menefee is a behind the scenes douchewad, I GUARANTEE IT

Demarcus has had a nine-year career, and that one catch constitutes over 3% of his career receiving yards.

He has to stay away from places that serve alcohol so the stadium is a no no

I am glad people like some people on TV. It seemed like Harlen was the only people could stand.
