What do you do in the offseason if you are the Chiefs?
We got a couple weeks to kill time...
Re-sign everyone and draft BPA at 32? Quote:

Hookers and blow

Where'd you get that list, a bunch of those guys aren't on the team..
|
That list is exhausting. It's like every year we have to start over.

Depends if we win the SB or not. If we win, like I expect, balls to the wall. Get a GUY at LT.

Deneric Prince is on the Dolphins PS, Toney and CEH are gone...cmon

Need at least two WRs. Rice/Worthy currently the only ones signed for 2025. See if Hollywood Brown wants to come back. Likely get the other WR from elsewhere.
Bring back Bolton. We don't have a replacement for him in the pipeline. Bring back Wharton unless he wants too much. We lack depth at the interior D-Line. Reid/Smith would be nice to re-sign but probably cannot afford their market value. Most of these other players can be replaced through free agency and/or draft. Pretty sure Gray and Humphrey were already signed. |

That is one heck of a list! I sure hope they figure out a way to keep Justin Reid and Nick Bolton.
Justin Reid is always balling out and making key plays, he is invaluable. Noah Gray, Trey Smith and Creed Humphrey would be my next priority. |
Throw all the money at Ian Book

Humphrey and Gray already signed new deals. |
More new guys.
This train has been running because Veach continues to bring in rookies/free agents that have some juice and want to win a ring. I don't really have any specifics other than that. |
The biggest name that stands out to me is: Trey Smith (G) – UFA
He is my second favorite OL. |

This team will really miss Reid if he is gone. |

I would try to trade Creed to some dumb running team for a good LT. |

Trey Smith will probably get one of the biggest contracts in all of free agency with it being a bad class overall. With the fact he was such a late pick he deserves to get every penny he can earn, he has been appreciated for his efforts but it’s going to be best to move on.
|
I saw a top 50 free agent list today. Tee Higgins was number 1. Trey Smith was number 2. They are already paying Thuney, Creed, and Taylor big money. No way are they going to be able to pay Trey what he will get. We're probably rolling with Caliendo or the guard that we drafted this year and wishing Trey the best
|
Also in the top 50, Hopkins at 14, Bolton 34, Brown 36, and Reid 50. Lots of covered players on this team.

Smith gets resigned as well as Humphries if he shows he still has it thru the playoffs. Bolton and Wharton resign. Reid is gone Hicks is his replacement. McDuffie gets paid. |
Offense needs an infusion of speed. Adding some talent at RB whether through FA and/or the draft is a necessity, most runs being 3-4 yards and a cloud of dust because the RBs either have no vision (Pacheco) or are past their prime (Hunt). The last truly top notch RB we had was Hunt in his early years, taken in the 3rd round. Taking CEH in the 1st was dumb in hindsight, but aside from that the only RBs they've taken since Hunt in 2017 have been Darwin Thompson and Pacheco at the end of the draft. I'm not sure if it just hasn't worked out or if they for some reason have an aversion to RBs on day 2 or the middle rounds, but that should be the sweet spot.

Well, not Reid leaving - but the rest provided we can afford. |
Top priority obviously has to be the best free agent LT that We can afford unless Humphrey really surprises. We will see how that goes in the playoffs. Giving up a lot of draft capital for a LT like we did with Orlando Brown should also be an option whether it’s via trade or moving way up in the draft.
We will not be able to pay Smith so will need a change at guard but likely already have good replacement options on the roster. We will be more than sat at receiver, even if rice doesn’t fully come back. I expect both brown and Hopkins will be happy to stay here on reasonable contracts same with juju. No one else wanted him. Hope we can get another year out of Kelsey, but if not, gray played very well this year. We should be able to keep our current RB slate, and maybe in the mid rounds try to draft a speedster. Several come up every year, we just haven’t gone after one. On defense, we should try to resign read and Bolton, but not if they want too much. We can replace both and still have a top defense, and I think our offence is going to be really superb next year. Worthy might make all pro. |

James Winchester 13. Samaje Perine 14. Josh Uche 15. Derrick Nnadi 16. Mike Caliendo and everyone else plays less than 15% of SNAPs for their unit. I'd probably priotize re-signing defense. Maybe Bolton, Watson and Johnson as I think that could be realistic. |
I think what you do this year has as much to do with he 26 class of free agents as it does the 25. I think you work on a mcduffie extension as soon as you can. The year after Karlafits is up, Mcduffie, Watson, Williams, Cook, Chenal, Pacheco and Kelce (assuming he doesn't retire).
To me your looking at Reid vs Cook. Reid's much more important, but Cook would be cheaper and Hicks is coming on. Bolton Vs Chenal. Could Leo step in and do what Bolton does? Physically yes. Mentally? Ohminihu vs Karlafitis. This is tough. Both are great but I think Ohminihu offers more as a rusher. Obviously not apples to apples but just as far as resource allocation to position groups. |
I think you have to have a conversation with Joe Thuney to see if he would want to play LT moving forward bc he’s been the best LT this franchise has had since Eric Fisher and he’s got the juice.
One of the biggest priorities is extending him bc he’s a top 5 OL in all of football. Verderame said he’s only been called for holding one freaking time since he’s been a Chief and he’s aging very well. Only missed 2 regular season games in his career. I’d keep Hollywood on another 1 year deal at least bc he’s cheap. Hopkins should come back too while Rashee is out. The Chiefs need to find the cheap FA steals that they always do that are successful. Juju, Tranquil, Hollywood, Breeland, D. Williams, McKinnon, Araiza etc. And yes they are probably keeping Bolton and letting Trey walk. Trey is gonna get so much money from some team. Patriots and Bears will price us out on him IMO |
I'd extend Thuney and Bolton, resign Brown and sniff around on the rest.
They need to keep adding speed to the offense though, be it a RB or WR. |
Pay market price for Omenihu.
Below market offer to Bolton. Team-friendly offers to the following: M. Brown J. Watson J. Reid T. Wharton N. Johnson Don't care about the rest. |
I hate to be the guy that does this, but methinks Bolton does alot for the defense that goes beyond physically playing.
They'll not let that walk. |
Re-sign Hollywood, Thuney, Bolton, and Reid
Find a new LT Get a shifty, pass catching RB Draft a CB |
I would only resign Thuney if I planned to keep him at tackle.
Dude is 32 so he might have one or two seasons left which would hopefully be enough time to get Suamataia up to speed. I just wouldn't pay guards big money which is painful to say because I absolutely love watching Trey Smith pancake dudes. But you can't keep everybody in the salary cap era and it is too easy to replace guards. |
all i know is i somehow want us to get jeanty
|
Too much concern that Patrick Mahomes is not going into 2025 as the starting Quarterback for the Kansas City Chiefs. To worry about that
|
I’m not even considering moving forward with Thuney as a tackle.
|
How much are Brown and Hopkins likely to get paid?
|
One question is what do they do about the cap? Only have around $20 million now in cap room. Mahomes is set to count around $65-68 million against the cap the next 3 years. I assume they’ll restructure him yet again and continue to kick the can down the road a bit?

I think I'd let JWat go and keep Mecole. Re-sign Hollywood and DHop for sure. I don't think we can pay JR or Trey.
|
The guys that provided instant impact when they got on the field…
Omenihu - instantly transformed the pass rush. Thuney (when shifted to LT) Hollywood chemistry with Pat is huge Hopkins perfect possession WR vet to help mold a young WR corps, going forward. Hardman (gadget/returner) Hunt may only have one year left, but we don’t get the 1 seed without him. Bolton - this is the one I could see us losing if another team swoops in and pulls a CJ Mosley. If he wants to stay, he will be here, but that’s a $ decision. KC won’t be the top bidder. I think if you can keep those guys (Thuney getting an extension to lower immediate cap hit) and have a solid draft, we will be in great shape for the 4peat. That should be realistic with a Thuney extension and a PM restructure. |

I’d like to find a way to keep our WRs together: Rice, Hopkins, Worthy, Brown, & Watson.
High talent, low cost. |
I don't think we can assume Hollywood will cheap. If he has a decent postseason he may have a market.
