Chiefs expected to move on from Justin Reid

Makes sense. Hicks is going to be a starter and a stud next year.
|
Go look at Justin Reid response to that..
|
Giant and Tit in the thread title. Is a tough act to follow
|
An outstanding free agent signing. Leaves KC as a 2x champion who will probably score a giant payday at age 28. Thanks for everything, Justin!

He didn’t say “that’s news to me”
Kinda leaves it open to interpretation. |
Reid's contract was very reasonable. If he wants to stay it can be done.
Issue is Hicks is here and maybe they just plug him in. |
There goes our backup kicker.
|
I feel like a RG would be easier to replace than Reid. That was my main concern with re-signing Smith.
Reid did so much for the secondary. A leader back there. I like Hicks but I'd rather see him and Reid playing together in the secondary. But I realize you can't sign everyone, plus there's Bolton's contract and we still need another WR and LT. |
sad
|
That's disappointing. But I heard he was expected to get $50M+.

will miss him if that's the case but we already have his replacement with Hicks and they will need to spend money at other positions
|
It will be sad to see him go but it's reality of salary cap NFL.
|
Tone setter and very solid tackling from him.
|
That sucks cause he's pretty much a perfect football player. Not in the superstar sense. But he was always reliable and was able to play multiple positions really well.
But Hicks looked good when he played last year so I get it. |
Reid has been pretty bad in coverage, but he was a reliable tackler and always available.
I think Hicks has the potential to be a better player but maybe not on the same level in terms of IQ and being able to align the backfield. |
Justin Reid is a true pro
look at his 3rd season vs Honey Badgers 3rd season |
I had it in my head that he was older. He’s only 28. I’m guessing he’ll get a nice contract. He’s a damn solid player.
If he’s gone I really appreciate his contributions. |

This is either the greatest post of all time or the worst one. I just can’t tell. I don’t know what the **** it says. |
He has always been one of my favorites during this run. Always has a great attitude. Good luck, Justin!
|
They need to use that money on offense. Get Mahomes weapons. You can find a competent safety in this draft
|
I like Reid and Bolton for their ability to play complex coverages etc. I think those are the smartest guys on our d but it seems Bolton may have lost a step and Reid was always a little bit bigger than I like at that position. Though Hicks I’d also a pretty large guy too.
|
Reid played great for us. An incredible signing and sorry he will be gone.
|
Leading the way for a Honey Badger reunion
LMAO |
Hate to see this happen. Great player, team builder, and smart as well as a good citizen
|
he will sign here for 2 years 3.5 million
|
Man that sucks he became one of my faves because of how he trash talked the haters online and also because he was just incredibly steady every season. Not a single complaint about him being out of position or giving up big plays, and a sure fire tackler.
I know Hicks looks like a stud but that was also in limited time. Ugh. |

Defense got to stay young and cheap.
|
I will wait and see. If they keep him great. If they let him walk I understand. It will be an interesting off-season. No Drama with the elite players. Many holes to fill.
|
If the Chiefs move on from JReid, I will be somewhat disappointed. He's been a great player for KC.
|
Rebuilding year.
He’s been great. Will be sad to see him go. |

You're happy to see him go |
Can’t re sign them all. Part of me just wants to rip the band aid off now and start a mini rebuild but I can see the argument that it’s still early. I think we’re due up for a small identity change.

Ok the people saying "gotta get younger"
He's f'n 28. STFU |

I'm just gonna say it . . . . . . I don't like Cook. AT ALL.
If they're not keeping Reid, I'd rather them draft a true CF safety like Moore in the 4th and pair him with Hicks. But I realize Spags is probably not gonna go for, in essence, a couple rookies starting at safety this year. I HATE the idea of pairing Hicks with Cook. Think it's going to end in an epic disaster if that's the way they go . . . . . |

Be smart. A fairly structured deal or one year deal or let him walk. He’s probably getting paid. |

Veach does a great job of flowing the money on the roster. Right now a ton of money goes to the offensive line, and but that should even out eventually. You have to have a mix of stud vets that are off set by talented players on rookie contract. |
They know they have a baller in Hicks, gotta get him on the field.

The draft is LB heavy, Bolton is a liability in coverage with TE's! Keep Reid, we use him many ways, he is our Swriss Army Knife. He makes our D and ST's so much better! |
If they really walk on Reid and Bolton this defense is going to take a massive step back.

That said, can't pay them all. |

Cook is tough and knows the defense but doesn't bring much else to the table. He's not a coverage + safety with range which we could use. |
Quote:
The other option is to move Connor to safety but he hasn't played there in the NFL yet. What other safety can they sign in free agency that is average at worst but will make less money than Reid? |

Godspeed Justin. One of my favorites of the last few years. Good luck, go get dat bag...

I'm fine with letting Bolton and Reid walk if the dollars are going to be reallocated to the offense. It's been awesome having a great D, but I'm tired of watching the best QB in the history of the world run for his life and throw to Justin Watson all day.
I still think Bolton won't have the market he's anticipating, and they'll hang on to him. |
**** sake. If he signs a $10m per year contract somewhere else I'll be quite disappointed we didn't match it. Clever player, good positionally and hard hitting...an unsung hero in the Spags defense. I feel he's underrated a lot because of the lack of picks but he ticks most other boxes in the DB checklist.

It's unpopular but I'd let Bolton go before Reid. There's not a lot of market these days for MLB's that can't cover. |

I think he’s a goner, unfortunately. However, I want a goddamn offense again. |
Quote:
The only difference he said with Paul was that he could cover TE's and Backs out of the backfield better than Bolton. I hadn't even heard of the guy until that segment. |
They need to let him walk and have Conner take his role.
I feel bad for Conner bc they clearly played him as a slot corner to replace Sneed and he got embarrassed there. He’s ideal playing Reid’s role where he can move around and have everything in front of him to attack instead of having his back turned to the QB playing in coverage. Conner excels at what Reid does: big body taking on blockers, tackling and pursuing. We have our in house replacement for Reid. Everybody says Hicks but I love what Hicks showed in coverage. Keep him deep IMO |

I think they'll let him find his market and if his ego and agent don't get in the way he'll make the most money here. |
