Justin Reid signs with Saints (3 yrs/$31.5M)
|
Chiefsification of the Saints continue
|
A lot cheaper than I was expecting.
Guessing teams aren’t in love with his coverage ability. Chiefs couldn’t do it because he and Hicks play the same spot. |
That’s 3 safeties in a row that left us to go to the Saints LMAO
The Saints love our players |
new orleans
where super bowl champion chiefs safeties go to die |
Went from Houston to KC to New Orleans like Honey Badger
|
A real Chief would’ve agreed to a league minimum salary to stay here
|
Always loved this guy. Happy he got to be a leader on some SB teams. Seems like a great ass dude.
|
Using his money on defense to pay Fulton.

Honey Badger, Dan Sorensen, KPass, Saunders, Willie Gay, MVS, MEHHH, and now Reid… Saints are a Chiefs retirement home.

I’m ****ing pissed off right now!

Knew we'd lose him but it kinda sucks...
|
Derek Carr wears number 4 there. See him think golf

Where else would a KC defender go?... |
Changing of the guard
|
He also basically got the exact same contract the Chiefs gave him 3 years ago.
|
Saints love getting our guys but it hasn't worked out for them
|
Will miss him! Good luck, Justin!
|
Reid is a good guy.
GL bro |
Saints love blowing their load all over our Chiefs players.
|
Best of luck to him unless the Aints are on the schedule.
|
Damn. I liked Reid, thought he played fairly well, this is less than I thought he’d get and kinda wish we woulda paid.
What do you guys think, are we good at safety or will we draft one? |

Saints getting another declining Chiefs safety
|
There goes Buttkicker's backup
|
We could afford that contract.
Same thing I thought when the Saints signed Gay. |
Interesting. Reid is 28. This gets him to 31. There is some risk there. I think the dude has some good football left in him. I’d have probably paid it but it’s possible this is absolutely the right call.
|
Punt God better start practicing some extra points. Didn't Reid have some concussion issues? He's basically followed behind Honey Badger by about two or three years, which is also weird. Hope somebody on the Saints can play chess....
|
The Saints.
Where all of our old players go to see their careers die. |
Great run with us. Sorry to see him go. Via con dios.
|
Can’t blame any of our guys that left for money. Lot of these guys went to 3 SB’s and won 2. You reached the top of the mountain twice. Get more money before it’s time to walk away.
|
Whats crazy is that they resigned Honey Badger too
|
Great human being so so safety. It's Hick's time now.
|
They could have kept him. We were a victim of our own success where they didn't want Hicks on the bench.
|
Anyone surprised that we prioritized Fulton over Reid? Fulton will be a #2 or #3 CB, whereas Reid was the leader of the secondary. Similar contracts. Reid is older by two years but that's not a big difference.
Hicks is poised to start but he could have started opposite Reid with Cook and Connor for depth. Maybe they think signing or drafting another safety would be much easier than a CB. I can see that perspective. Still, I figured Reid would get more money from somewhere. And Fulton being signed came a little out of left field. |

It could mean they want Hicks as the SS and Cook remains where he was. |
You drafted these guys for a reason. They need to play. If you have guys that you can play, you don't pay the older guy.

Adding Fulton fills the one hole and that was CB2. This move lets them be so much more diverse than if they ran it back with Reid. Connor can move around where he was so good 2 years ago. Trent can shut down the middle of the field where the opposition feasted last season. Great move. |
He is good. Good luck.

Also, I'm not as high on Cook. He plays too slow for that position. |
Only 10 a year?
Gosh.... I will miss his tackling. Dude was a magnet. |

I love Reid but Hicks was basically a play maker every time he was on the field last year and is probably better in coverage.
He's gonna be a beast. |

Sad to see him go, especially when the new deal he got was less than $12m a year. A proper hard bastard with a brain. I hope Hicks can fill his shoes.

Justin Reid for me goes down as a Chiefs legend. Money badger will be remembered as a down tooling piece of shit. |
So did Thornhill sign with anyone? He is 29 little old for us. Maybe cheap depth as free agency draws down.
|
I never grew attached, not sure why
|
Great player and an even better person. But it's time for Hicks to take his role.
|
Pacheco is going to be a Saint in 2026
|
Surprised the Saints have $$$ to spend.
Aren't they in "cap hell"? |
I'll miss Reid, thought we should resign him but maybe we can bring back Gay for coverage.
|
Veach played this about as perfect as he could have hoped for...got his peak years and leadership while grooming his replacement. Didnt miss a beat replacing HB either.

I'm not even sure how they're allowed to, I need to look up some cap stuff to understand how they can continue to sign people. |
ESPN's front page article on Justin Reid joining the Saints says he had 269 sacks in 51 regular season games if that's the case i think we made a mistake lettin him go. Thats tecmo bowl shit over 5 sacks a game from a safety whaddya gotta do to get resigned around here.
|
Dang he's going to take Tyran's roster spot on two different teams. I've never heard of that.

I wish would we could have kept him, but we'll always have those 2 SB wins together. Best of luck to you Justin.
|
He was one of my favorite players on this team and I am going to miss him. He is one of the big reasons why we were 2 time defending champs.
Good luck Justin! |

Are we sure that this had nothing to do Joe Horn, Willie Roaf or a Tanner’s waitress?

The Saints restructured like 6 players to have cap space. They just keep kicking the can.
|
Just to continue this conversation. The Saints already have like 10 players that have contracts void after this coming season. Those 10 players will count almost 60 mil against the cap next season unless they get extensions. That doesn't include carrs 60 mil dead cap if he doesn't play for them in 26. Carr would almost assuredly be a post june 1 cut so they'd be able to push most of that hit out another year, but they will still have something like 75 mil in dead cap before the league year even starts. They only have 31 players that are actually signed through the 26 season and already have the 2nd least amount of cap space in that season.

I truly don’t understand it. They should have just taken their medicine and sucked for a couple years after Brees left. |
Thanks for playing your ass off. Reid will more than likely have a long career on TV after his playing days.

At some point, you'd think they'd hire a competent GM to clean that mess up and make them competitive again. |

So instead of drafting one of their own they kept making the same mistake over and over. It's just something that teams do for whatever reason. |
