Chiefsification of the Saints continue

pugsnotdrugs19 03-11-2025 03:17 PM

A lot cheaper than I was expecting.

Guessing teams aren’t in love with his coverage ability.

Chiefs couldn’t do it because he and Hicks play the same spot.

RunKC 03-11-2025 03:17 PM

That’s 3 safeties in a row that left us to go to the Saints LMAO

The Saints love our players

Hammock Parties 03-11-2025 03:18 PM

new orleans

where super bowl champion chiefs safeties go to die

KC Hawks 03-11-2025 03:19 PM

Went from Houston to KC to New Orleans like Honey Badger

smithandrew051 03-11-2025 03:20 PM

A real Chief would’ve agreed to a league minimum salary to stay here

DanBecky 03-11-2025 03:20 PM

Always loved this guy. Happy he got to be a leader on some SB teams. Seems like a great ass dude.

BigRedChief 03-11-2025 03:21 PM

Using his money on defense to pay Fulton.

Honey Badger, Dan Sorensen, KPass, Saunders, Willie Gay, MVS, MEHHH, and now Reid… Saints are a Chiefs retirement home.

Hicks and the reality of what happened last year without Watson led us here.

I’m ****ing pissed off right now!

Changing of the guard

Mecca 03-11-2025 03:54 PM

He also basically got the exact same contract the Chiefs gave him 3 years ago.

Bump 03-11-2025 03:55 PM

Saints love getting our guys but it hasn't worked out for them

KCBlitz 03-11-2025 03:55 PM

Will miss him! Good luck, Justin!

New World Order 03-11-2025 03:56 PM

Reid is a good guy.

GL bro

Deberg_1990 03-11-2025 03:59 PM

Saints love blowing their load all over our Chiefs players.

alpha_omega 03-11-2025 04:26 PM

Best of luck to him unless the Aints are on the schedule.

Couch-Potato 03-11-2025 04:32 PM

Damn. I liked Reid, thought he played fairly well, this is less than I thought he’d get and kinda wish we woulda paid.

What do you guys think, are we good at safety or will we draft one?

I'm a bit surprised we didn't - pretty affordable deal. I know they're all high on Hicks though and I'm sure we'll draft another guy in rounds 3-5 somewhere.

Titty Meat 03-11-2025 04:43 PM

Saints getting another declining Chiefs safety

ChiefsCountry 03-11-2025 04:44 PM

There goes Buttkicker's backup

Gary Cooper 03-11-2025 04:47 PM

We could afford that contract.

Same thing I thought when the Saints signed Gay.

Buehler445 03-11-2025 04:55 PM

Interesting. Reid is 28. This gets him to 31. There is some risk there. I think the dude has some good football left in him. I’d have probably paid it but it’s possible this is absolutely the right call.

gblowfish 03-11-2025 04:57 PM

Punt God better start practicing some extra points. Didn't Reid have some concussion issues? He's basically followed behind Honey Badger by about two or three years, which is also weird. Hope somebody on the Saints can play chess....

BWillie 03-11-2025 05:02 PM

The Saints.

Where all of our old players go to see their careers die.

nychief 03-11-2025 05:09 PM

Great run with us. Sorry to see him go. Via con dios.

RunKC 03-11-2025 05:16 PM

Can’t blame any of our guys that left for money. Lot of these guys went to 3 SB’s and won 2. You reached the top of the mountain twice. Get more money before it’s time to walk away.

Hoover 03-11-2025 05:24 PM

Whats crazy is that they resigned Honey Badger too

srvy 03-11-2025 05:27 PM

Great human being so so safety. It's Hick's time now.

MahomesMagic 03-11-2025 05:45 PM

They could have kept him. We were a victim of our own success where they didn't want Hicks on the bench.

Gary Cooper 03-11-2025 05:58 PM

Anyone surprised that we prioritized Fulton over Reid? Fulton will be a #2 or #3 CB, whereas Reid was the leader of the secondary. Similar contracts. Reid is older by two years but that's not a big difference.

Hicks is poised to start but he could have started opposite Reid with Cook and Connor for depth.

Maybe they think signing or drafting another safety would be much easier than a CB. I can see that perspective. Still, I figured Reid would get more money from somewhere. And Fulton being signed came a little out of left field.

It could mean they want Hicks as the SS and Cook remains where he was.

Chris Meck 03-11-2025 06:09 PM

You drafted these guys for a reason. They need to play. If you have guys that you can play, you don't pay the older guy.

It’s Trent and Cooks’ backfield now. They have the chops to lead that group. Learned from Snead and Reid on the field. They’re fine

Adding Fulton fills the one hole and that was CB2. This move lets them be so much more diverse than if they ran it back with Reid. Connor can move around where he was so good 2 years ago. Trent can shut down the middle of the field where the opposition feasted last season.

Great move.

Red Dawg 03-11-2025 06:23 PM

He is good. Good luck.

I thought Watson was #2 CB. He played at a high level last year before the injury. Obviously didn't have a great Super Bowl though. I like adding CB depth but I would have chosen Reid over Fulton.

Also, I'm not as high on Cook. He plays too slow for that position.

notorious 03-11-2025 06:24 PM

Only 10 a year?

Gosh....

I will miss his tackling. Dude was a magnet.

I love Reid but Hicks was basically a play maker every time he was on the field last year and is probably better in coverage.

He's gonna be a beast.

The New Orleans ex-chiefs

Womble 03-11-2025 07:32 PM

Sad to see him go, especially when the new deal he got was less than $12m a year. A proper hard bastard with a brain. I hope Hicks can fill his shoes.

Not really. We prioritized corner after the Watson issue and will let the corners lead the young safety group forward.

srvy 03-11-2025 07:38 PM

So did Thornhill sign with anyone? He is 29 little old for us. Maybe cheap depth as free agency draws down.

Rainbarrel 03-11-2025 07:50 PM

I never grew attached, not sure why

The amount of negative that they're in is insane, but they keep pushing it off into the future.

I'm not even sure how they're allowed to, I need to look up some cap stuff to understand how they can continue to sign people.

Yo Murphy. 03-12-2025 12:18 AM

ESPN's front page article on Justin Reid joining the Saints says he had 269 sacks in 51 regular season games if that's the case i think we made a mistake lettin him go. Thats tecmo bowl shit over 5 sacks a game from a safety whaddya gotta do to get resigned around here.

ThyKingdomCome15 03-12-2025 01:36 AM

Dang he's going to take Tyran's roster spot on two different teams. I've never heard of that.

They take non guaranteed money and turn it into guaranteed money and spread it out of 5 years. Always 5 years because they add however many void years they need to make it 5. Low year 1 cap hits for all the new signees and voila, you are cap compliant with a mediocre team.

kccrow 03-12-2025 10:00 PM

The Saints restructured like 6 players to have cap space. They just keep kicking the can.

tyecopeland 03-13-2025 06:46 AM

Just to continue this conversation. The Saints already have like 10 players that have contracts void after this coming season. Those 10 players will count almost 60 mil against the cap next season unless they get extensions. That doesn't include carrs 60 mil dead cap if he doesn't play for them in 26. Carr would almost assuredly be a post june 1 cut so they'd be able to push most of that hit out another year, but they will still have something like 75 mil in dead cap before the league year even starts. They only have 31 players that are actually signed through the 26 season and already have the 2nd least amount of cap space in that season.

At one point within the last week or two they were actually cap compliant for this year and next year, which hadn’t been the case in like a decade lol

I truly don’t understand it. They should have just taken their medicine and sucked for a couple years after Brees left.

Scooter LaCanforno 03-13-2025 08:16 AM

I guess they feel like if they add enough former Chiefs players they might have a chance at making a SB.

It's just weird. They keep having to pay for shit/past-their-prime players and in the meantime have to let good players walk away. They are going to lose 3 good CBs in 3 consecutive seasons. They traded Lattimore in 2024. They lost Adebo in FA and will probably lose Alontae Taylor next year.

At some point, you'd think they'd hire a competent GM to clean that mess up and make them competitive again.

They just need one year. One year of actually eating the dead cap and not adding void years to those tyoe of players. Sign a Daniel Jones type qb, eat the carr dead cap in one year, suck, get a high pick, draft a franchise type qb. Cap restored, ability to actually compete restored.

I remember during the Carl years that KC loved them some SF QBs. Only one worth anything was a broken down Montana. Not even including Smith in this example.

So instead of drafting one of their own they kept making the same mistake over and over.

It's just something that teams do for whatever reason.
