RIP George Foreman

George Foreman has passed away.

Rest in peace

I loved the George Foreman grill when I was in college too(I would never use that again but at the time I cooked a lot with it).

Pepe Silvia 03-21-2025 07:53 PM

I was going to comment on the grill. ROFL

RIP Even though his fights were fixed.

Easy 6 03-21-2025 07:55 PM

Nooo, how old was he?

What a sharp dude he was, that grill earned him more money than all his prime fights combined

RIP George, you were the one dude even prime Tyson wanted no part of

Fixed how? He was one of the most heavy-handed punchers ever.

Megatron96 03-21-2025 07:57 PM

RIP, George. Wasn't a fan early, not until you staged your comeback after reinventing your personality, but always respected your power and intimidation factor in the ring.

And i bought 4 of your grills. many thanks for the memories and the food.

Rain Man 03-21-2025 07:59 PM

I hope he didn't face a lot of litigation from the Michael Scott accident.

Couch-Potato 03-21-2025 08:00 PM

Does anyone still use those grills? Everyone had one back in the day.

HonestChieffan 03-21-2025 08:00 PM

A fine fine man. RIP bruiser. God Bless all the Foreman family

Pretty sure i saw some at Wally world the other day so someone's still buying them.

ChiliConCarnage 03-21-2025 08:01 PM

Condolences to all of the George Foremans on losing their father.

Heavyweight champ of the world and he'll probably be remembered more for the grill.

Rainbarrel 03-21-2025 08:03 PM

I hope he set Eddie George free

RIP Champ.

Quick George story… My daughter played high level basketball tournaments all through out the Midwest and at one tournament we had an opening ceremony where George Foreman was the speaker that kicked off the tournament..
He gave an amazing speech and all the girls got to meet him and he was awesome with them and us parents were in awe..
All the Dads were stoked to meet the former heavyweight champ of the world but the girls were so excited to meet the maker of the Foreman grill..ROFL

RIP Champ..

I have one we still use at least 2-3 times a month...

TEX 03-21-2025 08:23 PM

Ran into him last fall at Wells Fargo Bank in Huffman Tx... I went inside the bank to make a deposit, bc the drive through line was long, and he was there with one of his sons. We were the only ones inside that day, and I noticed him and right away I wanted to say something to him but I didn't out of respect cuz I'm sure everybody does. So he actually looked at me and said, "Good Morning, how are you doing?" And I kind of froze up because greatness was talking to me. I told him I was doing well and asked him how he was doing, and he said that he was doing great he was just out and about running errands. Then it all made sense because I saw this really cool totally restored 1960's Ford truck in the parking lot. So I asked him if it was his truck and he said it was. So we got to talking, and when his son came back, we walked outside and he showed me the truck. I mean this thing was MINT! I had driven my "67 Mustang convertible to the bank that day, and he had noticed it, and I told him I'd let him drive it if he wanted to, because I was sure he was good for it if he wrecked it. He started laughing and said he doesn't fit in Mustangs. So we got to talking a little more and then he asked me if I wanted to go to Dairy Queen with he and his son, and I was like HOLY SHIT! I'm just going to the bank and now I'm riding in George Foreman's truck going to Dairy Queen! Fkn REALLY???!!! We went to Dairy Queen right around the corner from the bank, and I ended up buying him and his son and ice cream cone. Just an unbelievable experience!
RIP Big George!

George Foreman versus all of the girls at the tournament in boxing. The girls can only take him on three at a time. Who do you got?

Which son? George? Or George? Or George?

Frazod 03-21-2025 08:27 PM

RIP George. He seemed like an awesome guy.

I had one of those grills too, and used it a ton.

Mosbonian 03-21-2025 08:38 PM

Pretty sure I have.told this story before...

In the early 2000's I worked for the company that owned the rights to the Foreman Grill...Salton Inc, which at the time was based in Columbia MO.

One summer the State Special Olympics was held in Columbia and George was the Grand Marshall for the ceremonies.

He came in a day early to meet with the associates at Salton and I was lucky enough to meet him in person when the VP of Finance brought him by my office. Got to shake his hand...and braced myself for my hand to be crushed.

What i got instead was a very cordial soft handshake which puzzled me a bit. What I found out later was that he had worked with a team that taught him how to shake hands so that he could relate to everyone.

Got to spend about 20 minutes chatting with him and the he took a group picture with my team which I still have.

One of the nicest celebrities I ever met....a couple of times I got to chat with him when he was at the Housewares Show at Mccormick Place in Chicago.

I always considered him the one guy I was certain would beat prime Mike Tyson.

It would have been a tough matchup for Tyson.

Kind of like paper rock scissors. I see Tyson beating Ali, Ali beat foreman and foreman would have beat Tyson

UChieffyBugger 03-21-2025 09:18 PM

Wow this is sad. Dude was chastised after Ali beat him but he really turned his career around at an older age, became a champ again and then became a great business man after he retired. Word is he made more money outside the ring than he did inside it.

R.i.p George.

ChiefEd 03-21-2025 09:22 PM

Wife just asked “Was he a boxer originally?”

I said, “Yes he was. Before he was a grill salesman.”

Why in the world couldn't you use a George Foreman grill now? They are great, little, inexpensive grills.

BigRedChief 03-22-2025 01:05 AM

After he got beat by Ali, he somehow met my uncle. My uncle lived in Rogersville Missouri. He was a southern Baptist preacher there and Mayor. Had a good sized congregation. He invited George to come visit. Foreman lived at my uncles house and learned how to put together a sermon for about 6 weeks.

I was living overseas so I didn’t get to meet him. By all accounts, he was a down to earth nice guy. RIP George

ThyKingdomCome15 03-22-2025 01:15 AM

I use it occasionally in the winter when it is too cold to fire up the one outside.

Shocking news of his passing, I didn't realize he was 76. RIP George

ShortRoundChief 03-22-2025 03:56 AM

I loved big George and was fortunate to attend a Domino’s Pizza worldwide rally in Vegas in the early 2000s. Never forget how he opened “you all ever hear about the Rope a dope? I was the dope.”

Dude was terribly charismatic and from all accounts kind soul (except in the ring). RIP

htismaqe 03-22-2025 05:22 AM

I never met him but know people who have. By all accounts, he was a kind and gentle person outside of the ring and one of the all-time greats inside the ring. RIP

stevieray 03-22-2025 05:31 AM

Great, great American!

He's one of those guys who you just knew was genuine and the real deal.

RIP, Champ.

The George Foreman Grill crawled so the Air Fryer could run. RIP George Foreman.

redfan 03-22-2025 07:28 AM

RIP GF, loved watching your fights, and specifically remember the crossed arm "crab" defense technique.
And so passes yet another legendary human being.

T-post Tom 03-22-2025 08:07 AM

One of my all-time favorite boxers. Master of the walking uppercut and hard-hitting hands of stone. Especially his jab. RIP

The George Foreman Grill never crawled....that product flew out the door in it's heyday.

Having worked there during the peak sales days I can tell you that the single burger and double burger model pretty much went directly from the docks to the warehouse of all the major big box stores. The 4 burger model were the favorite when sold to family homes but the smaller 1 and 2 burger model was the favorite of the college crowd and young singles.

True. Go check out what he did in the 1968 Olympics, before bursting on to the professional scene. George was one BAD dude!

T-post Tom 03-22-2025 08:29 AM

Great George Foreman moment:

Huge brawl at Madison Square Garden during the Riddick Bowe - Andrew Golota fight in 1996. George Foreman is calling the fight with Larry Merchant and Jim Lampley. After four low blows from Golata, an all out riot breaks out. Waves of people jump in the ring. Haymakers are being exchanged everywhere. Things are being thrown all over. George Foreman steps in and protects his two coworkers from the mob. In the background, you hear him saying something along the lines of, “Don’t do it son. Don’t do it.” Larry Merchant later thanked George Foreman for saving his life.

If I was jumping into a melee like that and heard someone tell me “Don’t do it son.” And then looked up to see George Foreman standing before me…. I would immediately head to the nearest church and thank the Lord for not letting me die that night.

RIP Big Man!

My favorite boxer of the heavyweights bar none.

He lived a good and proper life. He is rewarded with the biggest prize where he is going.

God speed George Sr

Ps: sorry I never bought your grill. I did fine with a weber kettle in any weather.

GabyKeepsMeWarm 03-22-2025 10:05 AM

You ever just want to see systematic destruction, just check out Foreman/Frazier I.

https://m.youtube.com/watch?v=znTuCDievVg

Frazier is pretty much out on his feet after the 2nd knockdown where his body basically does a full reboot. By the 2nd knockdown in the 2nd round, fifth already in the fight, you can hear famed Ali trainer Angelo Dundee, there as a spectator/analyst, screaming and pleading for the fight to be stopped. Foreman was a BEAST in his prime. I believe he was only knocked down twice? in his long career?

RIP Champ. One of the absolute best. Quite a career and quite a life.

Also a great option if you have to deal with any sort of fire restrictions, either from apartment/condos complexes or if it doesn't rain for 8 month straight; or any kind of space restrictions.

Much like Ali we only got a short snapshot of his prime.
Also like Ali he eventually turned things around and became someone to truly admire.
