Do you enjoy female play by play announcers / color commentators?
Poll
|
In so many words.... no.
Especially in baseball and football. |
Nope.
Not that I wouldn't enjoy a female commentator, there just haven't been any good ones. |

Frickin terrible |
Sure. It depends. I like Doris Burke. And while not a play by play announcer, Linda Cohn.
|
I don’t mind any commentators in general. I love Harlan, like Troy & Joe Buck, like Collinsworth & Tirico, love Nantz, like Romo, love Al Michaels, really like Olsen.
Everyone was complaining about Booger, Witten and that play-by-play guy who tried his damnedest to make Mahomes’ “Showtime” nickname a thing, I can’t think of his name, but I didn’t even mind those guys much. I suppose I don’t love Charles Davis. His voice is annoying for some reason. Fouts can be a bit of an idiot. Like, he’ll say shit that demonstrates that he clearly doesn’t understand a particular rule or didn’t see something that was clearly shown on an instant replay. Herbstreit is also pretty low energy. He needs to add some razzle to his dazzle. This comment got a little out of hand but the female announcers I’ve heard are calling NBA games. I don’t particularly enjoy them but I don’t dislike them either. |
I don't pay much attention with most sports and kind of doubt they're any worse than Charles Davis, Romo, Collinsworth, that one CBB guy who's always on the brink of orgasm... hell, Romo was great in his first couple seasons and they said nah, stop talking football and be temu Collinsworth.
You need greatness with baseball though... there's a ton of filler and the downtime to exciting play ratio is so much different than other sports, you need to be great at both. |
Not really. Nothing against it. But a lot of them seemed forced into the broadcast.
|
I’m all for it increasing competition. Most announcers are mediocre at best, so doubling the pool of potentials can only help.
|
Depends on the sport for me. Some of the ones for hockey and soccer know more about the games than the guys, so those are a positive.
There are some who annoy me because they talk nonstop, but there are plenty of annoying male announcers as well. |
I subscribe to the Harrison Butker doctrine. If there's a perfectly qualified male available then he should be on air and the woman should in the kitchen making him a tasty sandwich.
|
Absolutely not.
|
Nope. Never.
99% of the time, the only things they bring to the table are annoying voices and weird takes. |

Absolutely not. I can't stand their shrill, shrieking screams when something exciting happens.

There may be a sweater or two in Canton

I don’t mind some of the sideline reporters if they’re hot but since we don’t see the play by play ones they can get ****ed
|
I really don't like many of them. Like VERY few. So it's a matter of hate.
I don't hate the women announcers less than the likes of Cock Sucking Fouts. Raftery's over the top shit. Vitale being a ****ing clown, Romo actively rooting against Mahomes, Buck/Aikamn rooting against Mahomes, etc. |

Yeah, same. Don't have anything in particular against female commentators, just haven't seen a particularly good one yet. |
I actually liked Doris Burke on Mahomes' first game. People despised her, but she had the energy to match the excitement of what that player would become.
Better than getting some snoozer like the old man version of Dick Enberg towards the end of his career. And I'd rather have a Doris Burke play-by-play than some of these god awful reeruns and assholes they bring in to do color these days like Bruce Arians. |
Women only belong in the kitchen, making babies and sammiches.
/probably Buttkicker |
Women should only be involved in sports broadcasting as sideline reporters and if they look like this…

The Gal who kept calling to get Grill the ball in the Drake MU game was an idiot.

Stop it.
My sandwich isn't going to make itself. |
They need to dub in oven timers and pot sounds in the background while they talk.

Fact is, it's probably a little early to say much about this considering women haven't had many opportunities to call games for the "big 3", NFL, MLB, NBA until recently. And let's face it, most announcers are pretty mediocre, man or woman.
That said, as a tennis fan, I always thought Mary Carillo was pretty good, along with Pam Shriver, Martina Navratilova and Mary Jo Fernandez. All can hold their own with the men. Having lived in NYC for awhile, I would catch some Yankees broadcasts, and Susan Waldman/Wildman? isn't terrible, nor was Nancy Newman. Certainly no worse than the insufferable Michael Kay or John ****ing Stirling. Not exactly a high bar, but I digress... Aside from that, I haven't heard enough women calling games to really give much of an opinion. |

no
have them on the sidelines looking pretty like Erin Andrews back in the day |
Depends entirely on if they’re good.
|
They make every game seem like a Big Ten D team matchup that kicks off at 11am on ESPN2
|
No, mainly because I've never heard a good one.
There was one in particular who I thought was terrible calling a college game who sounded like Ms. Hathaway from The Beverly Hillbillies. She was absolutely awful. But still better than Romo. |

women should announce women's sports
men should announce men's sports stay in your lane |
I like females...

Uh, obviously no. This can't be a serious question. They shouldn't be allowed to drive, vote, go out in public alone, speak unless spoken to or have opinions either.

Do you enjoy female play by play announcers / color commentators?
People complain about announcers too much in general. I haven’t heard many women announcers but they don’t seem any different than the average man.
|
Doris Burke was absolutely terrible as a color analyst during the NBA finals last year. I miss guys like Hubie Brown and Mike Fratello who had great insight into the game.
|
Very hard to judge, because a lot of male commentators also piss me off.
I'd struggle to enjoy commentary less than Brady or Charles Davis |
I’d like it more if they would do it in hot and sultry phone sex hotline voices.
|
it seems out of place, more than anything.
I don't know the name, but there's a female analyst who does MLB (maybe for the yankees?), who seems to really know her stuff. It works better in MLB, as it's more of a conversational situation than NFL or basketball. |
Yes, some of them. Others not so much.
Not all that different than the dude commentators. |
I like that lady who does the women’s college World Series. I don’t want to paint with a broad brush and just say no. I don’t like 70% of the male announcers either fwiw.
|
I have no problem with women commentators when it's a woman's sport like women's basketball, which I would never watch.
When I hear a woman commentator on professional men's sports, it just lacks authenticity. |
They can commentate women's sports, that makes sense, I don't really watch women's sports
|
Only when naked....

It seems that this particular sport would do better with female color commentators who are, well, actually colorful. |
Watch a San Jose Sharks game sometime, sports fans. They fired anyone that was any good, then put a minority woman on the play-by-play. I think she's Philippinno but the important thing is how terrible she is.
She can't follow which players are on the ice at a given time, what with all the line changes. So instead of saying players names, she uses the team name to apply to all of them."Shark on the blue line passes across to a Shark. He fake shoots and passes to a Shark in front of the crease! Shark gets the puck and SHOOTS but the King goalie saves it. Rebound to the corner, two Sharks and one King battling for the puck, and the Shark gets it. The Shark passes to a Shark at the blue line but a King intercepts it and now it's a King headed the other way with one Shark to beat! King jukes and shoots! Shark goalie saves it! King gets the puck and...." Just that. No names unless someone scores, she eventually figures out who it was, often after the commercial break. I haven't watched a Sharks game since. It's pathetic. Turns out when you disregard ability in hiring, you don't get ability in your hires. Women sports announcers need to stick to women's sports. They are trash. Pure garbage. |

No. For example, the TV broadcast of Mahomes' first start was nearly rendered unwatchable by a female announcer.
Male announcers can suck too (Joe Buck, Tony Romo), but at least there are a few good ones. |

It’s mostly fine. I don’t care for commentators in general they don’t bother me but they do not add much either.
The way the people on this board allow them to get under their skin is a sight. |
I feel like there is money to me made with a crowd noise only option but I know the lack of advertisements they push would make it hard to sort out financially.

Do not enjoy as much as tolerate, tbh.
I've tried to keep an open mind, but I can't say I enjoy them. There have been a few NCAA tourney games that had a woman doing pbp, it's...okay. I'm not going to change the channel because of a woman announcer, but they don't do anything for me to make the call better or enhance the game experience. |
