College Football Playoff Moving to Straight Seeding

So it's basically an all SEC playoff at this point

BWillie 05-22-2025 01:04 PM

I haven't cared about college football in about 5 years

FloridaMan88 05-22-2025 01:19 PM

So it’s basically now the SEC/B1G Invitational.

Garcia Bronco 05-22-2025 01:20 PM

So now winning your conference doesn't matter

KC_Lee 05-22-2025 01:33 PM

The SEC & Big 10 are going to kill the goose that lays the golden eggs.

George Liquor 05-22-2025 02:13 PM

Boy, that's gonna suck.

Titty Meat 05-22-2025 02:24 PM

Good

George Liquor 05-22-2025 02:35 PM

So it's just the BCS + friends?

I dunno, it seemed dumber before and a lot of people complained about boring games largely due to the format.... why have Penn State destroy #11 SMU and then destroy "#3" Boise State just to finally get a decent match up, because Boise won their shitty conference?

This looks so much better....

College sports have become obsolete with the new transfer and payment to athletes approved by the NCAA. **** them, it's sad history.

Here's how we fix college football. Get rid of the non-conference cupcakes at the start of the year. Make every game count.
- 10 Conference Games to determine the playoffs.
- 32 Team Playoff:
-Top 5 teams from the Big Ten, SEC, Big 12, and ACC get in.
- Champions from the other 6 conferences get in.
- Next 6 best teams or let the #2 team in the other 6
conferences in.

The teams not in the playoff get to play 2 more games.Losers in the first two rounds of the playoffs get to play other losers. That gives everyone a minimum of 12 games.

College football didn't need fixing until Conference realignment about 10 years ago. People complained about the BCS / two team playoff, but those systems in hindsight made for more intrigue.

Why do i get this feeling in my guy that this is all because Alabama didn't make the playoffs?

ChiefsCountry 05-22-2025 06:17 PM

So they fixed a flaw. Should be better now. You won't have the 12th seed as number 4 now.

None of these changes would landed Bama in the playoffs. ROFL

It is the correct change. Boise State and Arizona State were good teams but not top five quality.

Ya'll just make up narratives you want huh? CFB & basketball ratings were up. There's more parity than ever.

Yeah, if anything these changes would lead to Bama whining about money, which is the 2nd part of that tweet, making sure the SEC and B1G still get their share.

And I'm sure given that info, they're all in favor of it... win your conference, guaranteed money. Get a top 4 seed, guaranteed money. It'll make the rich richer, but nothing new there.

It changes nothing from who made it in 2024 though.

The only downside to the system now, besides maybe overexpanding it a bit, is the selection committee itself... but with so many teams getting in now, there's just less and less room for whining if you lost 3 games in a season or had a super soft schedule.

Same exact concept we were fighting for in the NFL before it got dropped off the docket for this year... Conferences/Divisions matter because you get a chance in the dance, but Rank/Record matters for seeding.

I think it'll make for better matchups down the line too

Stewie 05-23-2025 04:36 PM

Heh. This is all nonsense.

There are so many lawsuits coming down the pike you won't recognize college sports in 24 months.

Players suing their university, universities suing their conference, conferences suing the college collective, conferences suing each other...

It's just a cluster**** of greedy assholes.

As someone that's been around a while, I ain't sure I recognize it now....sure don't care much for it. I know the days of the Big 8 are never coming back but I will admit that I cared more about college sports then than now.

lewdog 05-24-2025 11:21 AM

I think it's all gotten boring as **** and with the transfer portal being so easy, you just build a roster in one year and there's no development of players/programs.

You gonna start calling the CFP a crapshoot since Nebraska never wins championships anymore?

College football was awesome for a couple of reasons:

Every single game was important. One loss could end your season/chance at a national title. That's what made it exciting week-to-week. That's gone.

Recruiting and building programs. That's gone.

Now it just feels like an NFL format with far inferior football.

Even worse. It’s a as if every NFL player was a free agent every year. There is no reason to GAF about individual players or stories anymore.

Yup. College basketball is probably worse about it; but it just ****ing stinks that you never get to follow a guy thru his career.

Now my football team might be able to bring in actual D1 quality players finally and I just expect them to all leave if they flash anything. Why not? I'd go somewhere else to play football and get pussy for an extra 100k/yr or whatever promises they give me at ****nut State

The coaches and the donors are the real story now. Good work getting untold billions when Phil Knight dies Oregon; hopefully you got a hell of a salesman at coach so you can capitalize on it.
