Letters from the front Website
 

Hey guys, I decided a couple of weeks ago that I wanted to collate all of these great letters home people have been putting on here and create a web site for them all. Well, I have gotten a start here. It is just a Geocities site but it should be able to hold what we have. It is also just barely started at this point. I hope to have evryone's letters up later today.

I intend to also include the missions and mission recaps. I can probably include some of the other things some of you are putting together. Let me know what you would like to see included. Just remember one thing, this is my first shot at a web site so any advice would be appreciated!

Cool site. Can you put the telegram to my parents in there?

I'll have to find it. I hadn't seen it unless you just put it up. I think I have everyone else's letters, just have to finish getting them up there!

While it would be best that you not know the gruesome, cringeworthy manner in which he died, please rest assured that the US Army Air Force will do everything possible to find what's left of him, or at least the largest undigested pieces, and return them to you.

Anyone else want to write a letter, I will keep a close eye on this forum or you can post them here and I will add them as I have a chance. Hopefully I will have all the older notes up today then I can try working on adding a section for the missions themselves.

Ok, I should have everyone's letters up at this time. Please let me know if I made any mistakes. There are a couple of typos but that is the way they were written in the first place. I wanted to leave those in for flavor! :D

Got thru my first mission. We bombed XXXXXX, and got back in one piece. We didn't suffer and major hits but those pings scared the crap outta me. Hopefully we can put a major hurting on the Raider...Nazis. Gotta make up for the memory of my brother who was lost aboard XXXXXXX.

Dear Mom and Dad,
I hope this letter finds you both well. A lot has happened since last I wrote you. First off, I hope this letter gets to you before the War Department folks knock on the front door to inform you that your son, along with all crewmembers aboard the Wrath of Zod were lost when the plane went down over the English Channel a little over a week ago.
If those people have already been there, please ignore what they told you about my death. It didn't happen-well, actually, it did, but it didn't--damn! This is so hard to explain.
Remember that Hindu temple on Melrose and, I think, 7th Avenue North? I think, to better understand what's going on, you might consider spending some time over there.

We have received word from Red Cross that he is now a POW. All information indicates that he is in good health and spirits, and god willing this war will be over shortly so he might return to you.

Ok, all letters and other stories are up on the site.

I have also gotten the first mission up and will continue to work on getting caught up with where we are at.

Any ideas on improvements or other things to add down the road would be appreciated. I am actually having some fun with this. It was a matter of needing some material to work with and Rainman has filled in nicely. Thanks!:thumb:

Dear Molly,

Well I finally made it over to England and I can say the weather sucks and is cloudy all the time. I've tried the Kidney pie and I'm not sure if it was KCWolfmans but nothing should taste that bad.

I took a tour of the plane Gunthers Thunder III. That III has me worried for some reason. I found a bit of undigested human flesh in the bomb bay and am forwarding it to FDR for his review. Hopefully he will know what to do with it.

I can't wait to get in the air and get at those Ratzi Nazis in my sights! Thanks for the Captain America Comics I'll read them on the missions as I'm sure no Nazi would dare to come close to my fire breathing gun.

(Oh and howdy Reverand. I am sure you will be the one Ma and Pa will briging the letter to so's you can read it to them)

Things are fine with me and the rest of the crew. Some of the planes are really taking a beating though. Out of 20 or so planes, we've seen lots shot up, several shot down - some that weren't replaced. The flying schedule is a little inconsistent. With the loss of so many men, the General what plans the flights and all gets together with the crews when they return and goes out partying with them. He does pretty good at getting the first 10 or so planes going, but then after going out drinking with all those aviators, we have found that he is usually too drunk or hungover to finish sending the rest of the planes up 'till he sleeps it off for a couple of days. By the way, I would imagine that had the General been used to your corn squeezins this watered down stuff over here wouldn't have as much affect on him as it does.

Well Ma and Pa, gotta run. It has been several days since the General was out with the boys so I am sure he'll be getting around to more missins and we need to get the plane loaded with bombs and gassed up and such.

Miss you all at home. And Pa, make sure you pat ol' Jeb my coonhound on the head for me!

I am terribly sorry for not being able to write to you, but I have been moved from place to place so many times that I've had little time to pick up a pen and paper. During our first mission, I took a wound to the face that they thought would be fatal, but miraculously healed just in time for the second mission. For a while, I flew as a gunner for the Tequila Rose, but we were shot down. After what was apparently 3 days, I awoke in a British hosipital and stayed there until they could assign me to my current plane where I am now a Bombardier. I cannot tell you the name of this plane at this time for I do not want you to worry if any news of its injuries gets to the States.
No matter how you interpret my number of injuries, don't worry about what might happen next. I will come back to you, and when I do, we'll go everywhere and do everything that we talked about before I was drafted. And after the war, do not wait for me at the airport, but at the park where I first told you how special you always were, are, and will be to me. This sense of life being able to end at any moment proves to me that there's one more thing I must tell you, and it can only be done there.

Ah jes' finished up mah secon' mission aboa'd one of them theah aeroplanes. It's kinda fun, cuzin they all lets me shoot a purty big gun. It's even biggah than Unca Jeb's shotgun. They's about nahn otha guys on mah aeroplane, an' mos' of us are shootin' big guns, but some of us are drahvin' the thang and some othas are droppin' big ol' bombs and stuff. The otha guys is nahc, but they cain't figger out why Ah writes with a southen accent.

It seems we might be coming back soon! There are only a couple months left...it means about 15 more missions, but I seem to be getting better. Although I got a 30% hit on that last target, the other 70% consisted of a German Officer's Club and a bunch of artillery. I overheard the General saying that what I did combined with what a plane going to Abbeville did may have helped us a lot for the next battle, but we'll have to wait and see.
About your letter, ASU sounds like the better choice under those conditions, but it's your decision. All I can do is hope and wish that you make the decision that's best for you. Also, thank you for your concern, and I'll try my hardest to stay uninjured.
