Right Waist Gunner PennyWise (8) was thrown out of the plane immediately upon the explosion, as his position disintegrated.
Stunned and flash-burned, he alertly counts to ten before deploying his chute, and comes to a soft landing on an urban street in the middle of Rotterdam. Dutch citizens mill about to prevent the Germans from reaching the scene, and the Dutch underground grabs him and runs. In the basement of a Rotterdam townhouse, his minor burns are treated by a comely blonde Dutch girl. Over the coming days, he heals quickly, and the girl eventually sneaks him out and lets him plug a hole in a dike with his finger, creating a memory that will last a lifetime. After a week of hiding and planning, the Dutch underground gets him on a ship to Denmark, and from there to Norway, where he crosses by car into the Swedish frontier and hooks up with a supportive cargo ship to England. That's awesome! |

Joe Seahawk attempts to shut the engine down, but it won’t respond. It continues to speed up, and Taco John is having trouble keeping the aircraft moving straight. Joe Seahawk attempts to cut the fuel, but it won’t respond. The engine speeds up more. This is trouble. The engine is redlining now and still increasing. Yard Dart is yawing to the left and Taco John can’t control it any longer. The plane whips around and does a quick 360, then repeats the maneuver. Taco John curses and hits the bailout alarm. The team bails out of the plane, with left waist gunner RoyC75 the first out and copilot Joe Seahawk second. Taco John is next, then Archie F. Swin and oleman47. KC2003 makes a clean getaway, then RJ and kcnut. The two men in the nose are the last out, which is unfortunate. As they approach the bailout hatch the #4 engine explodes. Bombardier Chief4ever takes a piece of the engine disk to the head and dies instantly, while Navigator ZachKC takes a serious wound to the right upper back. He is thrown out as the entire right wing goes supernova, but manages to get his parachute open. ZachKC floats to the ground but is too injured to escape. The Germans find him within an hour, and he convalesces in a POW camp. Archie F. Swin and RoyC75 team up on the ground and run…right into the sweep of a German patrol. They have no choice but to surrender, less than an hour after the plane was hit. Kcnut ends up alone in the middle of a large plowed field. German soldiers approach from the east to capture him, and French resistance fighters approach from the west. Caught in the crossfire, kcnut hugs the ground as bullets fly all around. More Germans arrive from the east and the French are forced to retreat. Kcnut sighs and raises his arms. His war is over (again). Taco John and Joe Seahawk land near each other and hit the ground running. Once again, they learn that Abbeville is heavily defended, only this time they learn it from the ground instead of the air. With soldiers milling about everywhere, they have no chance. They manage to evade the enemy for almost an hour before getting cornered in a small valley and surrendering. Radio Op. oleman47 (9) and Tail Gunner RJ (9) land near a small farmhouse. Unsure of how to proceed, they knock on the door, and the homeowner sends word to the resistance. They enjoy a nice meal, but then there’s a knock on the door. As they scramble toward the cellar, German soldiers burst in to search the place, and it doesn’t take long to uncover the two fliers. The family is arrested as well. Ball Turret Gunner KC2003 (9) lands near a farmhouse as well, and he also knocks on the door. He is taken in by a French family, and after a couple of days of masquerading as a French peasant he is picked up by a group of French Underground fighters who are shorthanded. Over a three-day period he helps the group detonate a bomb underneath a loaded German halftrack and conduct sniper kills on two German sentries, working his way north all the while. At the Channel, a British minisub shows up at the appointed time and KC2003 reports back to base none the worse for the wear. No bomb run Aftereffects No more Yard Dart, alas. Bearcat utters a ‘wow’ and reports that a severed engine from another B-17 fell onto the nose, ripping a huge hole in the starboard side of the nose. That news is not lost on alanm and gh4chiefs, who are unharmed but awed by the hole in their area. It was quite the near miss. By the time alanm gets back to the controls, the bomb run is off target – 0% score Zone 3: France (Leaving Target Zone) 2 Fw190s, 1 Me109, and 1 Me110 attack alanm fires, hits Me110 gh4chiefs fires, misses seclark fires, misses redhed fires, damages the hit Me110 hydrae fires, misses Fw scores 2 hits -superficial damage to radio room -superficial damage to starboard wing Fw scores 2 hits -superficial damage to radio room -superficial damage to pilot compartment Me scores 3 hits -superficial damage to pilot compartment -pilot compartment – Special Ed sustains a light wound to the right upper arm -pilot compartment – Bearcat takes a serious wound to the left hip The badly damaged Me110 surprises Sack Time from below, sneaks up close behind the plane, and lets loose for 11 hits -starboard wing root is damaged -superficial damage to waist -superficial damage to the #4 engine -superficial damage to nose -pilot compartment – Special Ed and Bearcat lose their oxygen system. Special Ed switches to the backup system, and does his best to help Bearcat get his backup system operational. -bomb bay – life rafts are destroyed -radio room – luzap takes a serious wound to the right chest, which combined with his foot injury is fatal. -waist – rain man takes a fatal hit to the right chest, and the world loses its future premier underwear model. -waist – zebedee dubois takes a light wound to the left calf -tail – redhed suffers a serious wound to the right hip -superficial damage to tail 2 Fws, 1 Me circle, attack again gh4chiefs fires, misses hydrae fires, kills Fw190 seclark fires, misses Fw scores 1 hit -superficial damage to port wing Me scores 2 hits -bomb bay – the bullet passes through the empty bomb space but with no effects. -starboard wing – aileron is out Fw, Me circle, attack again. Due to injuries, there aren’t a lot of guns firing back now from Sack Time. alanm fires, misses seclark fires, misses Fw, Me miss, break off attack Zone 2: English Channel No enemy Zone 1: England Good weather Despite his injury, Special Ed makes a good landing. Aftereffects Copilot Bearcat is sent home due to his injuries and oxygen deprivation, which occurred because Special Ed wasn't able to get his oxygen mask on him when he was ally. Tailgunner redhed’s wound wasn’t as bad as first thought. He’ll be ready for the next mission. There is a pattern with each mission I have flown thus far.
The bad news: I only get off 1 shot and it always misses. The good news. The plane always makes it back home safely. :hmmm: |
