Are you getting a flu shot this year?

Just got mine this afternoon. How about you?

BigRedChief 10-16-2020 01:41 PM

Havent got one in decades. This year, I got one even though I've not been sick in 3+ years.

ChiefBlueCFC 10-16-2020 01:41 PM

Actually got mine 2 weeks ago. First flu shot since I got out of the military 10 years ago

TLO 10-16-2020 01:42 PM

Also inb4 someone claims that getting the flu shot caused them to get the flu.

htismaqe 10-16-2020 01:42 PM

The problem with getting a flu shot now is that you'll probably end up getting a different variant in January. We're almost to the point where we need two flu shots for two different seasons every year.

I've heard this before and as much as I hate being 'that guy' - The only time I got one - I ended up with the Flu.

That could be, but it clearly wasn't from the shot.

The flu shot is only about 40% effective. You can't get the flu from the shot itself but it's entirely possible to get the shot and still get the flu.

Simply Red 10-16-2020 01:44 PM

also don't ask a question if you don't want honest answers - here - I'll fabricate a response for you.

NO BUT I'M GOING TO GO - Walgreens is offering a free $10 gift card PLUS the shot is literally free atop that!

I believe the estimate is around 50% of flu cases are spread by those who are asymptomatic, so getting a shot every year still helps to some extent with preventing the spread, even if you don't get symptoms.

All of this is correct. It's amazing that people can't/don't/won't comprehend this.

CarlosCarson27 10-16-2020 01:49 PM

40% effective= useless waste of time. Almost 50/50
Also doesn't prove you didn't get it because you got the shot.
It's a facade. Sham.

Peter Gibbons 10-16-2020 01:49 PM

Yes. This is Not a COVID inspired change as our son has a heart condition so we all get them each year to help protect him.
