This. Bortles might actually turn out to be the best QB in that class. That passing game is rolling and they’re already without Robinson and just lost Lee.

Westbrook and Cole are fantastic rookies.

I’ve heard that before elsewhere and I believe it, but I also don’t buy it being yhe reasoning for his regression. I think he’s just a cuck when he feels pressure like Alex. He just has a bigger arm and isn’t as mobile.

Yeah but he hasn’t been pressure that much more this year than he was last year iirc. He just checks down and takes the short stuff constantly

They have no rhythm, it’s weird

I just can’t get back on the Bortles train. The d is legit tho

I think DC’s have probably fogured him out a bit, and that’s the reason why it’s really coming to light. Basically they’ve studied what we do to him.

I don’t think he’s good enough to win the SB this year, but I think he’s shown enough progress to hold off on looking for another QB.

They’ve got a nice group of weapons and he’s playing better than he ever has. It’s worth seeing what he can do next year with a healthy Fournette, Robinson, and some improvements on the OL.

They’re gonna have to give him the 1 year deal or something.

I’d try and bring in Cousins or Eli

Maybe but in year 4?

I mean if it were 2 I could see that but he just looks awful

Apparently you missed that article with a HC or DC this year talking about how they studied Sutton’s strategy against Carr. I’d imagine he wasn’t the only one that did that.

It’s still a a combination of things at the end of the day though. The OL has regressed over the years, along with Cooper. I just don’t ever see him living up to the hype with that contract and the one Mack’s about to get. He needs a much better team around him to succeed than people thought.

Carr needs good coaching so badly. If Oakland is smart they’ll fire JDR and get a real offensive mind in there to help this kid.

Coaching makes all the difference in the world. Jared Goff is proof of that.

He was propped up by great skill position players and an elite OL. Now that neither are as good, he's been exposed as just another Carr.

Oakland is going to regret that contract for years.

So is it a mental thing, physical?

Goff also has a lot of talent around him. Gurley is probably the best RB in the league, Watkins/Woods/Kupp are a nice trio of WR’s, and Whitworth along with he development of Havenstein has made their OL above average. Not to mention that defense.

I’m not sold on Goff either, but they can definitely win a SB with him on a rookie contract and the talent around him if he continues to develop.

If i remember correctly, as a rookie he had an incredibly low ypa. He's regressing to that.

It's easy to play QB [Dak Prescott, Andy Dalton, Alex Smith] in this league when you have a combination of all day to throw, a good running game, good WRs, or all three. When those elements start to falter, mediocre QBs get exposed. Derek Carr is one of those. No good QB would *ever* struggle with the Chiefs D the way Carr has over several years given Oakland's skill position and OL talent.
