Losing my Mind at Work

Guys, I can't even sit still. I'm so dang anxious for Saturday to come. I feel worthless at work. I'm just spending all my time reading about Saturday's game.

How about everyone else? What's everyone doing to make the time pass?

MahiMike 01-10-2019 09:39 AM

I plan on working during the game to keep my mind off of it.

There's no way I could do that. As stressful as this game will be, I've got to watch it.

In58men 01-10-2019 09:51 AM

We’re in the same boat. This week has been so slow it’s even worse. I was hoping to stay busy, but nope. Everything is running so damn smooth.

I actually find myself the same as MahiMike. It seems irrational, but the games affect me so much that many times I wont watch them till after I know the outcome. It can upset me so much, that I have trouble sleeping and am angry about it for quite a while. Its irrational, and I know that it is, but I cannot simply "just watch" a game, I get invested immediately. This year, the Patriots, Rams and Chargers games tore my heart out.

I hear ya. When games are close at the end, I'll get up and clean the house and do dishes or something like that while I watch the game. Sounds girly or ridiculous, I know.

If I didn't watch the game I'd be checking my ESPN APP the whole time. Power to ya brother for waiting it out.

Pablo 01-10-2019 09:57 AM

I've had the stomach flu the last couple of days. I promise you won't care too much about football when you're praying to the porcelain god.

I can't do it. I have to see it live. I remember missing the Chiefs at Raiders Thursday night game last year. I had it DVR'ed with every intention of watching it later. But, I heard about the bullshit ending where the Faiders got to keep trying until they finally got away with a push off to win it. I said screw it. I don't even want to see that crap. I finally deleted it off of my DVR. If the Chiefs were to win, I would rewarch it. But if they get screwed and lose, I'll never see it.

This.
I RARELY sit during a Chiefs game. I tend to stand up and pace around the kitchen the majority of the game.

Jerm 01-10-2019 10:04 AM

Yeah this has been the slowest work week ever...just keeping telling myself tomorrow is Friday. Almost there.

mr. tegu 01-10-2019 10:05 AM

Thursday is basically over and Saturday doesn’t count so it’s really just one more day.

mr. tegu 01-10-2019 10:06 AM

The real test will be staying busy Saturday. We plan to put away our Christmas decorations so that should definitely take some time and our minds off waiting for the game.

Sassy Squatch 01-10-2019 10:09 AM

Haven't really thought about it. Just another game for me.

Busy working. Moving around the country. Chances of me watching the game live is slim to never. So I’ll be abusing the NFL mobile app all game while in the air.

DC.chief 01-10-2019 10:19 AM

Slowest week ever. Feels like it's going backwards at this point. I'm basically useless at work. I've read every hot take and article/video I can possibly find chiefs related and It's all shit I already know but I NEED MOAR!!!

Study the Sicilian Defence, and it's positional variables. I am currently studying the Dragon variation where Black fianchettoes their Bishop on G7 attacking White's Queenside. It's very interesting.

i literally am fine until the end of the game if its close. If we're losing by a lot i am relaxed, if we're winning by a lot im relaxed, but if its close and at the end i pace around my living room.

I just feel this year is different. The optimism going into this game is probably what has me so anxious. I can't wait to see the team on the field. I'll be pacing around all day Saturday and throughout the game as well.

Maybe my lack of optimism is what has me so grounded for this one.

I'm the same, I don't watch my sports teams games live anymore, be it Soccer, Basketball, Hockey or the Chiefs. The anxiety levels can be a little bit all consuming and I much prefer to just let things play out and see what happens when the dust has settled. I did actually keep up with things last season but that Raiders defeat was just a killer. Tbh though even waiting until the result is over can be tough because just like you seeing what happened in that Chargers game was a bitter pill to swallow. It took me a few days to get over that one, especially with the media all celebrating the Bolts.

For this one though it's strange because I'm totally calm about it. As long as we have Mahomes I truly believe we'll have our day of glory whether it's this year or another. That kid is special and he will do something special at this football club, I have no doubts whatsoever.

Jerok 01-10-2019 10:47 AM

I work Saturday but i'll be off by three. Gonna be so anxious all day wish i could sleep in til noon and immediately start drinking

scho63 01-10-2019 10:48 AM

Sounds like work productivity in the Kansas City area is even less than the low normal. :D

Yehoodi 01-10-2019 10:54 AM

Ah the playoff excitement of football is in the air. I can imagine there must be a buzz of excitement in KC. Not only for this playoff run, but the many to come in the future..

Nothing wrong with getting wrapped up in the game a few days ahead of time. I have done it myself in varying intensity. It is part of being a fan.

That's about what this feels like.

As a long time Chiefs fan I don't know how the city will handle a win. We have been habitual losers of home playoffs for so long I don't know if the city can handle winning the next two games ROFL

I DVR games don't start watching until about 45 minutes after the start time. I figured out watching commercials and halftime just adds to my anxiety during games so I try to skip them as much as possible. If they defense allows a score, I hate having to watch the commercial break mad waiting to see the offense response. Or if we're down at halftime I don't want to see 15 minutes of highlights or them breaking down why we're losing.

Hog's Gone Fishin 01-10-2019 05:47 PM

I haven't missed a game in at least 25 years. I'm damn sure not missing this one. If we lose I'll still have a feeling of satisfaction knowing we got Mahomes for the next 15 years and this year was a whole lot of fun.

Hog's Gone Fishin 01-10-2019 05:49 PM

Thing is. This may be the hardest game we have on the way to the Lombardi.

suzzer99 01-10-2019 05:53 PM

If you could get up Saturday morning and be magically be teleported to Saturday night, then find out the score - would you? Assume you can watch the entire replay of course.

prhom 01-10-2019 06:32 PM

If you want to make yourself less excited, go buy gamepass for $50, the start watching the Pats game, followed by the Rams, followed by Seattle and finish up with the Chargers. Finally, go check the injury report. After all of that you will probably have a lot less nervous excitement about the game and will have already gotten yourself into the proper state of mind to accept whatever unique and impossible to predict way we will find to lose the game. If they win then you will be happier than anyone because you will have started out so low!

Yes, I know how you feel. I haven’t bought game pass this year and am not sure I want to because the fun early games will only piss me off that Hunt is gone. That dumbass, why did he have to be such a douche??

Welp the Ravens game is on NFLN - so we're watching that! Much better resolution and fast-forwarding etc. than gamepass.

Sure, but then I tell myself that the only reason we lost to the Colts and the Titans the last two times were because of freak plays. Crazy freak plays.

I'm going red Friday today myself. I broke out one of my Chiefs sweatshirts, which should go over real well with my customers here in Bronco country. On the other hand, I think they are well acclimated by now, because I have a Chiefs decal on my hardhat and a lot of them have seen me in a chiefs jacket here and there. :)
