SOC says Clark slammed Pioli

Latest email I got is that Clark isn't ****ing around, which is obvious from interviews. I've been out most of the day, but the email came in before Clark went on the air.

The directive is no one from the football operations side is to speak until their final notice has been given either with a termination or a return.

Clark is trying to force Pioli's hand and have him quit. Clark had a heated discussion with Scott this morning according to this email. Clark told him he won't have any say in this head coach because "this head coach will be here longer than you will".

Then there's this piece of info. Clark talked with Peyton Manning at length Sunday night. He wanted to know why the Chiefs weren't considered and everything Peyton said pointed the finger squarely on Pioli. Said Pioli's rep across the league is terrible. His inability to foster a "team" environment instead of one ruled like a dictator was huge too.

This really pissed Clark off. I said in a previous post that the loss could have triggered all of this, but it's apparent the PM discussion could have as well.

I'm completely shocked to say the least. Everything, and I mean everything, I've been told paints Clark as someone with a school boy crush on Pioli.

Clark wants to make a splash. He also wants to save the money from just firing Pioli. With all the lawsuits that former employees have pending against the Chiefs that list Pioli, Clark may have a case to fire him with definite cause.

Source said that Clark changed overnight toward Pioli.

Take it for what it's worth.

So Clark Hunt calling Peyton Manning isn't against league rules?

O.city 12-31-2012 03:14 PM

It's in the Hunt thread.

I'd be shocked if he talked to Peyton Manning last night. I'm sure Clark knew why Peyton didn't visit KC way back in March.

yes cause walking out to the 50 yard line after the game or going to a locker room or suite hanging out is calling and searching for Peyton Manning lol

he probably saw him 100 times in person yesterday. Surely conversation is conversation

Stewie 12-31-2012 03:15 PM

I'd keep Pioli around in a diminished role... stairwell duty. It fits his talent evaluation expertise.

Bob Dole 12-31-2012 03:15 PM

Constructive discharge.

Pioli will be gone before week's end.

Actually if Clark attended the Denver game last night he could have talked to Peyton.

Maybe thats why Clark said he was embarrassed and mentioned product on the field and winning about 50x in his interview today.

Oh yea, he doesn't care, I forgot.

He spoke to him after the game. Plus he did know why Peyton didn't come to honor his promise, it was Pioli as I stated. Peyton reaffirmed Clark last night to the reason and it ticked Clark off even more.

I'm inclined to call bullshit on all this, "Clark hates Pioli, is taking away all his power, forcing him to quit" crap. Likely Clark and Pioli had this worked out months ago. Fire Romeo and leak out info like this to appease the angry part of the fanbase and media. Likely nothing will change as far as who does what (Pioli is still in charge) and as soon as the team starts winning again people will be OK with whatever.

BullJunkandIron 12-31-2012 03:35 PM

Clark knows at least Chip Kelly would properly know how to use Matt Cassel. That would let our 1st pick be wide open.

MahiMike 12-31-2012 03:44 PM

I'm guessing he did sign an extension w/Pioli in the summer and Clark's lawyers are still trying to figure out how to get rid of him while saving $.

Rain Man 12-31-2012 03:45 PM

If a division rival's quarterback says we should get rid of our GM, shouldn't we be keeping our GM? We should be firing our GM if the opposing quarterback says stuff like, "Keep him! Give him a raise! Let him run your draft unhindered!"

Yeah, I'm pretty sure Peyton Manning is scared to death that the 2-14 Chiefs are going to improve so quickly that it would matter to him.

The rumors about the extension all intimated that it had buyout language that was more favorable to the Chiefs than the original contract. In fact, some of the reports suggested Pioli wouldn't sign it because of the buyout clause.

If the Chiefs wait until late January or February to try to find a GM to replace Fat Scott, most of the quality candidates will already be hired at that point.

Senior Bowl is January 26th... it would be nice to have the HC and GM for 2013 in place by then.

Everything I've seen from Clark tells me that he's waiting to get his legal ducks in a row before pulling the trigger. No way would he say "The next head coach is reporting directly to me" if he intended to keep Pioli around. That's an explicit vote of no-confidence on his part. My hunch is he's waiting for the right time to do it.

That was my initial thought of "what if's" Has Clark fired Romeo and kept Pioli. However, Clark's quote was that he was going to choose the new head coach HIMSELF and the new hire would answer directly to him. This quote states more to me than just "we're going to get a new coach". The Chiefsplanet shit stirrers can translate this quote any way they choose to to keep the teen drama high. However, to me, it states that he no longer trusts the decision making process of Pioli. The fact that the new coach answers to Clark rather than Pioli tells me that at least some control has been taken away from Scott and he doesn't want the new hire treated like Pioli's puppet.

IMO.....Scott Peeholi is gone as soon as one of two events happen. Either his lawyers are using a loophole to shred his contract. Or his replacement is still in the playoffs and he's waiting for that team to be eliminated.

TribalElder 12-31-2012 06:29 PM

I just saw a bit of the channel 5 interview with Clark Hunt. I seriously doubt Pioli is going anywhere based on what chunt said. "Who's decision was it to fire Romeo" - Coleman

"It was my decision but it was one that Scott agreed with"

I doubt Scotty is going anywhere anytime soon. Hopefully I'm proved wrong

That's the only thing you heard? Think it's pretty clear Pioli is either gone or neutered. And if he's neutered, he's gone. Way too much of an ego to accept the role Hunt is calling for.

I'm thinking Pioli just signed an extension this year and Clark has lawyers going over it right now to find a way to nullify the contract. I can't see Clark taking away Pioli's power and still keeping him. It doesn't make sense, unless he's contractually bound to stay.

ReynardMuldrake 12-31-2012 06:34 PM

So does this all mean Clark is going to be making the 2013 draft picks himself I wonder?

Yup Pioli no longer has control of this team if he stays or not. If he does stay it is in a role no different than he was at New England. He would be basically the top personnel guy answering to the head coaches wishes. That is why it will be more along the lines of a Holmgren, Cowher, Gruden, Billick or Reid type hire imo. With that said I think it is all legal stuff being hammered out before he is out the door.
