The Blues

I'm starting to get into some Blues music and wondering if anyone has any suggestions for any songs?

For some reason Otis Redding's "I've got dreams" is #1 on my playlist right now.

Some that you need to look at on Youtube:

Muddy Waters - http://youtu.be/liX7zPV095Q
Howlin Wolf - http://youtu.be/A6KauaV1m_U
Sonny Boy Williamson - http://youtu.be/FEXMVsziq2o
Elmore James - http://youtu.be/orc50cWI6OU
Jimi Hendrix - http://youtu.be/rUeECo0i17o
Buddy Guy - http://youtu.be/N6O9DaIGy9M

Going a bit newer -

Stevie Ray Vaughn - http://youtu.be/tWLw7nozO_U
Chris Duarte - http://youtu.be/QNS2dURnTSg
Johnny Lang - http://youtu.be/3tigVYfHVmQ
Kenny Wayne Shepherd - http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=vNayy...812637C1920B66

And some movie blues lol

The Blues Brothers - http://youtu.be/9hB3eCv_FOk

Anyway hope this helps and gets you more interested in the blues. You will note some of the older songs creep into newer players.

Thanks! My first listen was Sonny Boy Williamson and i'm digging it. I seem to like the older stuff.

Start here, then start clicking on all the other stuff listed along the right side of the YouTube page. You could spend all day finding some amazing stuff.
BB King, Bo Didley and John Lee Hooker are aslo worth checking out. You want to go real old school, Robert Johnson.

Here are some lesser-known blues players that are still very, very good (and show a newer direction for the blues):

Derek Trucks/SusanTedeschi/Warren Haynes: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=2burpTQSDMA (Susan is a blues artist/guitar player in her own right, while Derek and Warren play guitar for the Allman Brothers and their own bands--Derek and Susan are married)

Derek Trucks: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=GN5cvrDtv3M
Carolyn Wonderland: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=XT4Lr_oVGQY (I've seen her live in a SMALL club in Houston, and she's awesome!)
Warren Haynes: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=744WsO9iw5E (the dude can play anything he wants---really)
Susan Tedeschi: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=4gCBHO9JvWE

Though not often thought of as a blues band, that little band from Texas (ZZ Top) is STEEPED in the blues:
Blue Jean Blues: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=5AupxHarqNk (slow burn at its best)
Jesus Just Left Chicago: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=pN69GC2amTg

Nazareth one of my favorite bands. They got plenty blues tunes.

KC Dan 01-04-2013 01:44 PM

Check out Hamilton Loomis. He is a Bo Diddley deciple and a great guitarist

Demonpenz 01-04-2013 10:20 PM

Led Zepplin had some good blues tunes. Texas Flood by Stevie Ray Vaughn pops into my mind as well.

I totally forgot about Hamilton Loomis! My wife graduated college with him (I was a grad student at the same school and have met him a few times...nice guy!)
