Anybody ever book a place through Airbnb?

Trying to book a place but it's a little complicated. They want me to send credit card statement to verify my use of my card. Is this legit?

I think there was a thread just a couple weeks ago

Who is "they"- AirBNB themselves or the host you're booking with? I've booked through there a few times and never had to do the credit card thing.

EDIT: A quick google search suggests it's legit, but completely obnoxious.

We've done it. Never had to verify like that though.

Have had to place a deposit though.

I prefer VRBO over airbnb. So much easier to book with and I have never had any issues in the 10+ bookings that I used VRBO. Airbnb is has been a pain in the ass the last couple times I have tried to book through it. Told I have to verify my account. Account verified and I try to book, it tells me again I need to verify. No thanks, I'll stick with VRBO.

I booked 3 different places here in the Scottsdale area when I first arrived. Super simple.

I've never heard of that before? Is it possible someone tried to use your card somewhere?

I've used VRBO before but hadn't even considered that they'd have this property. Haha but they do so maybe this will be easier. Thanks my friend.

I've been using AirBNB exclusively for the past couple of years, but never heard of this.

I like homeaway more.

Yes, never had to have my cards verified though.

We live in a strange world. Everyone's always worried about being raped and killed and stuff, but then they call uber and get into a car with a stranger and they go to airbnb and let strangers sleep in their house.

I use AirBNB, Lyft and Uber all the time when I travel, and I'd probably accept the incidental rape for the amount of time and money I'm saving.

I use AirBNB a lot. Never heard of having to verify a credit card. My biggest tip for AirBNB: read the freaking reviews from others who have stayed at a place. I’m always amazed at people who have horrid stories about things not being as they appear on the site when if you read reviews of the place, it tells you of anything misleading or undisclosed.

I guess that's why it works.
