GRAND CANYON NATIONAL PARK, Ariz. | The body of a hiker recovered from a remote area on the North Rim of Grand Canyon National Park has been identified as a Kansas man.

Authorities said Thursday that 30-year-old Gavin C. Smith, of Lawrence, likely suffered a heat-related death.

The National Park Service received a call Tuesday night about a body being found near the Lava Falls Route, a rugged and remote hiker's trail in the Tuweep area.

Authorities say Smith was among five men who went on a day hike Tuesday. He felt fatigued and was running low on water so he turned around to hike out. His body was recovered Wednesday and taken to the Mohave County

Thats unfortunate, Its never a fair way to go out in some bizarre way. Condolences to his family/friends.

it was pittsie who was talkin about it but he wasnt suppose to go until later on this month.

Maybe he walked into an Aids tree, while drinking antifreeze.
