If you could nail one song perfectly...
Imagine that you're at a party. There's a piano, guitar, drums, harp, and other instruments available. Everyone's having a good time, and people start doing impromptu one-person performances. It's your turn now.
It's just you, your larynx, and one instrument of your choice. What one song would you most like to be able to perform as well as the original artist? It would be hard for me to pass up Great Balls of Fire. If you nail that song, you're never buying a drink at a party again. |
Probably Brenda Song

I still fantasize about singing Hot For Teacher at my high school band contest LMAO
We actually had a crack band considering our ages, but we were too cool for school and didn't enter... I'd have had every female student and teacher in that cafeteria dripping like a broken faucet Bet on it... |

Power of Love- Huey Lewis.
Other than that-most if not all on my playlists. Really, I know them all. Also can air guitar, air piano and air drum with the best of them. |
Duane Allman’s slide guitar on the back end of Layla. But I’ll need one of y’all to nail the piano part.

Oh, I dunno, maybe Fatal Tragedy by Dream Theater
Or Hanger 18 by Megadeth Guitar of course |
O sole mio
|
great question.
Either Eruption on guitar (yes, no vocals).....or Long Time by Boston (to play the guitar like Tom Scholz and sing like Brad Delp would be angelic!) |
Stairway to Heaven is always impressive
my hands just don't shape that way |
Tiny Tim - Tiptoe thru the Tulips
But in all seriousness, I’d go with Bill Withers - Use Me or Billy Ocean - Caribbean Queen. Panty droppers!! |
Grew up in the 90's listening to rock so if I had to pick one song to nail for a party it would be Alice In Chains - Man in the Box.
|
Sultans of swing - Dire Straits
|
My guitar singing King of the Road. It's a great song for a crowd. Everyone who sort of knows the lyrics will join in and think they can sing, too.
|
I'd probably do Paradise City from Guns N Roses. You're at a party, good party song and being able to sing like Axel did would be cool

Try and Love again Randy Meisner

You said only your voice and 1 instrument??

This is one of those chicken or egg questions. Most talented vocalists are not really great guitar, etc. players and great guitar/piano/etc. players really aren't good vocalists. There are exceptions of course, Joe Bonamassa come to mind. But guys like Steve Perry and David Ruffin didn't play an instrument on stage or in the studio.
I guess I'd have to go with Michael McDonald on "What a fool believes" or BB King on either "The thrill is gone" or "Into the night". But RM is right. If you could do The Killer's "Great balls of fire" you'd be drinking for free a long time. |
“Taylor” by Jack Johnson. Love the guitar.

"November Rain" (Guns & Roses)
I've seen G & R in concert a couple times over the years (last time it was some years ago in Glendale , AZ ). Say what you want about Axl Rose as a person but damn that dude is a one of a kind front man/ lead singer. And "November Rain" is just such an EPIC song all the way thru. |

What a neat question. So many good songs have the potential to bring the house down.
Knowing the crowd I'd be around, I'd go with: War Pigs - Black Sabbath (although playing guitar/having no drums would be the suck) Point of No Return - Kansas Touch, Peel and Stand - Days of the New Rocket Man - Elton John |
KILLER IN YOU - LIMP BIZKIT - me and my guitar ->http://youtu.be/nczZ_f2hapY and http://youtu.be/ofUzHRQkYc0

Assuming accent on vocals with a story line and pure vocals:
Cats in the Cradle by Harry Chapin Crystal Ship by the Doors (awesome baritone) |
Dont Stop Believin' by Journey
|
Easy…The Girl from Ipanema

House of the Rising Son while playing the organ.

We're not centralizing around any individual song at all. This is why parties are entertaining, I guess.

Hey Jude-With the voice of Wilson Pickett and playing guitar like Skydog.
In the Muscleshoals documentary, it was stated that when Wilson screamed and Duane went into that guitar solo the birth of Southern Blues Rock began. <iframe width="560" height="315" src="https://www.youtube.com/embed/0y8Q2PATVyI" title="YouTube video player" frameborder="0" allow="accelerometer; autoplay; clipboard-write; encrypted-media; gyroscope; picture-in-picture" allowfullscreen></iframe> But maybe Bobby Hatfield's voice singing Unchained Melody. That one gets the gals teary-eyed and moist. <iframe width="560" height="315" src="https://www.youtube.com/embed/qiiyq2xrSI0" title="YouTube video player" frameborder="0" allow="accelerometer; autoplay; clipboard-write; encrypted-media; gyroscope; picture-in-picture" allowfullscreen></iframe> |

Ehhh not the classic that some listed here are but I still crank up the radio when the guitar hits at the beginning of "Cumbersome" so I'm rolling with that.

Also youtube Duane Allmans isolated on Layla along with other songs. |
