I kind of feel like the Avs and Chiefs have had a lot of parallels these last few years. Both teams have been in the dumps under suspect coaching staffs, but have had a core group of young players that you just felt were too good for the team to look so bad.

Here's hoping Roy and Sakic can have the level of success that Dorsey and Reid have had so far this year.

I love the NHL realignment. The divisions are pretty awesome, other than losing Detroit, Blues division is pretty sweet.

Just watch a few of their home games. To their fans, that team has never committed a penalty, and the opposing team deserves 5 minute majors every shift.

I will admit I'll miss hating the Wings a bit. I'll try to keep up the hate for a while, but with them having a minimal impact on the Avs from now on, it'll be hard to care that much.

Hell, I'm going to the game tomorrow night with a Wings fan, and I think he's planning to actually root for the Avs.

Penguins start it off on Thursday against the Devils.

Wow...another goal by the Hawks to tie it up for the 4th time in the game. Crazy.

Yeah, pretty much.... I really thought there was a lot of promise two years ago. Still needed a big improvement on defense and goaltending if they were ever going to make some noise in the playoffs, but you could really see the potential. Then last year, partly due to all the injuries, there were times when it looked like they hadn't ever played hockey together... it was like watching the Missouri Mavericks.

How will the Blues fail this year?

The Predators are going to suck. Again.

Avalanche look like they've played with each other before... played hockey with each other before.

Good comeback win by the Jets last night. It was nice to see the young draft picks (Trouba and Scheifele) have an immediate impact in the lineup.

I'm thinking it's going to be tough making the playoffs this year with the Jets moving over to the West but it gives me hope.

Scored tickets to the Home Opener tomorrow night. Still an outside chance of getting Cardinal playoff tickets for tomorrow afternoon as well.

I've been meaning to get over to see a Blues game. Heard its a hard ticket to get.

Its not. They generally have big crowds but unless its Chicago, Detroit or Pittsburgh should be able to get tickets.

Just got home from the game. Roy is as fiery as always - he knocked the glass between the two teams' boxes down at the end. Not sure what he was so pissed about, but it was pretty hilarious.

Lovejoy stuck a knee out on MacKinnon. That's why he was pissed.

Yep - just watched a couple of replays - that's definitely what it was. I saw the hit live but didn't realize that's what all of the scuffle was about.

I haven't looked back at it, but it also looked like one of the Ducks slew footed Varlamov earlier in the game, but I didn't get a good look at it.

It wasn't a particularly egregious hit. Lovejoy may've had the SLIGHTEST consideration of trailing his knee, but it wasn't some superdirty hit. Roy's reaction was hilarious, but entirely childish and over-the-top. He's gonna look like a clown more than a few times this season, especially when the losses start piling up, which they will with that defense.

Eh, regardless, I can understand being pissed off that a team takes a run at injuring your 18-year-old #1 draft pick in your first game as an NHL coach. It also wasn't the first time in the game; Lovejoy tried to fight McKinnon earlier as well.

I'll take the fiery attitude over the "sit back and take it" approach that Sacco has had any day.

Tons of people from Hockey towns retire to arizona. Lots of black hawk and Wings jerseys when I was there.

Yeah, it's not exactly normal for the Avs to hold a team to under 30 shots - at least based on the past few years. It definitely helps when Varlamov is playing well again, though.

Hawks drop one in a SO to the Lightning ,3-2. Blew a 2 goal lead in the 3rd, Bishop, TB's goalie played very well.

Been a lot of fun games this week. I think I'm just giddy that we have hockey in the fall this year, but it's definitely nice to have something other than football to watch.

And the Lightning didn't have a single shot in the first period, and only 6 after 2.

Yeah, it's hard not getting addicted to GameCenter... a couple of shootouts, the Ducks scored with 5 seconds left in OT, and watching the Wings lose is always nice.

I think it's hard to hold the lockout season against anyone - that was a goofy year. And only 3 games into this season?

The guy took them to the finals 3 years ago and he just got the ax because of a bad year during a goofy season and 3 games? With his GM citing a 'gut feeling' and his owner upset about the pre-season results?

Sorry, but that's dysfunctional, IMO. Organizations that do shit like that just spin their wheels.

The coaching carousel in the NHL is beyond nuts....
