I kind of feel like the Avs and Chiefs have had a lot of parallels these last few years. Both teams have been in the dumps under suspect coaching staffs, but have had a core group of young players that you just felt were too good for the team to look so bad.

Here's hoping Roy and Sakic can have the level of success that Dorsey and Reid have had so far this year.

ChiefsCountry 10-01-2013 07:20 PM

I think you spelled season wrong.

Holy shit. I can't believe it's already hockey season. I guess I'm not used to sports with a 3 month offseason.

OnTheWarpath15 10-01-2013 07:24 PM

YAY!

40th year in a row that the Blues will get me excited and then let me down!

That's probably partly because last year hockey didn't start for another 2.5 months. :sulk:

Being a Chiefs fan is good practice for the Blues.

ROFL...you really need to follow a team that is successful one of these days. You've got to be one of the most pessimistic people I know.

Thank God for the Cardinals.

DaFace 10-01-2013 07:37 PM

It's going to take me a while to wrap my head around this new division structure. I can't even remember who the Avs' new "rivals" are...

Now we're in the same division.

No expectations for my Flames other than a lottery pick.

It's gonna take a while to stop hating the damn Canucks as much. Still couldn't get rid of the damn Wild, though.

I love the NHL realignment. The divisions are pretty awesome, other than losing Detroit, Blues division is pretty sweet.

It'll feel natural soon enough.
Just watch a few of their home games. To their fans, that team has never committed a penalty, and the opposing team deserves 5 minute majors every shift.
It's basically 20,000 Petes.

I will admit I'll miss hating the Wings a bit. I'll try to keep up the hate for a while, but with them having a minimal impact on the Avs from now on, it'll be hard to care that much.

Hell, I'm going to the game tomorrow night with a Wings fan, and I think he's planning to actually root for the Avs.

MMXcalibur 10-01-2013 08:32 PM

Penguins start it off on Thursday against the Devils.

Also, **** the Capitals.

DaFace 10-01-2013 08:36 PM

Wow...another goal by the Hawks to tie it up for the 4th time in the game. Crazy.

Yeah, pretty much.... I really thought there was a lot of promise two years ago. Still needed a big improvement on defense and goaltending if they were ever going to make some noise in the playoffs, but you could really see the potential. Then last year, partly due to all the injuries, there were times when it looked like they hadn't ever played hockey together... it was like watching the Missouri Mavericks.

Pasta Little Brioni 10-02-2013 08:23 AM

How will the Blues fail this year?

Predarat 10-02-2013 08:28 AM

The Predators are going to suck. Again.

Bearcat 10-02-2013 09:05 PM

Avalanche look like they've played with each other before... played hockey with each other before.

Something new this year.

CanadianChief 10-02-2013 09:56 PM

Good comeback win by the Jets last night. It was nice to see the young draft picks (Trouba and Scheifele) have an immediate impact in the lineup.

I'm thinking it's going to be tough making the playoffs this year with the Jets moving over to the West but it gives me hope.

OnTheWarpath15 10-02-2013 10:46 PM

Scored tickets to the Home Opener tomorrow night. Still an outside chance of getting Cardinal playoff tickets for tomorrow afternoon as well.

Titty Meat 10-02-2013 10:48 PM

I've been meaning to get over to see a Blues game. Heard its a hard ticket to get.

Its not. They generally have big crowds but unless its Chicago, Detroit or Pittsburgh should be able to get tickets.

Just got home from the game. Roy is as fiery as always - he knocked the glass between the two teams' boxes down at the end. Not sure what he was so pissed about, but it was pretty hilarious.

Lovejoy stuck a knee out on MacKinnon. That's why he was pissed.

Yep - just watched a couple of replays - that's definitely what it was. I saw the hit live but didn't realize that's what all of the scuffle was about.

I haven't looked back at it, but it also looked like one of the Ducks slew footed Varlamov earlier in the game, but I didn't get a good look at it.

DaFace 10-02-2013 11:31 PM

Here's another video of it. The quality sucks, but they show the hit in question.

Roy is gonna kill a guy before the season is through. Crazy Frenchman.

CupidStunt 10-03-2013 05:49 AM

It wasn't a particularly egregious hit. Lovejoy may've had the SLIGHTEST consideration of trailing his knee, but it wasn't some superdirty hit. Roy's reaction was hilarious, but entirely childish and over-the-top. He's gonna look like a clown more than a few times this season, especially when the losses start piling up, which they will with that defense.

Eh, regardless, I can understand being pissed off that a team takes a run at injuring your 18-year-old #1 draft pick in your first game as an NHL coach. It also wasn't the first time in the game; Lovejoy tried to fight McKinnon earlier as well.

I'll take the fiery attitude over the "sit back and take it" approach that Sacco has had any day.

If you Google the word objective, this is the first hit.

ChiefsCountry 10-03-2013 06:50 PM

Brett Hull has gotten fat. Blues vs Preds on now.

ChiefsCountry 10-03-2013 06:54 PM

Backes scores on a PP goal. 1-0 Blues 17:55 in.

2-0 Notes.

So...this isn't an NHL game, but it's worth posting anyway.

Good thing Nashville sucks, the Blues forgot to play defense tonight.

Fun game though, nothing like running Rinne off the rink in like 9 minutes.

Im damn worried about Rinne, not sure if he is still a bit hurt or had a bad game. And the AVS looked awesome on Wednesday.

19-0 and 98-0 ...football and hockey are going to be awesome this year.

I feel much better about him, but damn the Preds have a tougher time scoring then an 80 year old man with uncurable ED.

Yeah, it's not exactly normal for the Avs to hold a team to under 30 shots - at least based on the past few years. It definitely helps when Varlamov is playing well again, though.

Gadzooks 10-05-2013 08:33 PM

Been a lot of fun games this week. I think I'm just giddy that we have hockey in the fall this year, but it's definitely nice to have something other than football to watch.

Yeah, it's hard not getting addicted to GameCenter... a couple of shootouts, the Ducks scored with 5 seconds left in OT, and watching the Wings lose is always nice.

Sorry, but that's dysfunctional, IMO. Organizations that do shit like that just spin their wheels.
