It was just brought up on BBTN, but both Schilling and Sutcliffe said they'd take Posey over Molina.

I'm obviously a homer, but I'm taking Molina 5 times out of 5. Previously, the offensive difference was so wide you could easily make a case. But now, with Molina's offensive skill as well as the fact that he's the best defensive catcher, I don't know.

Oh and Westbrook threw 7 innings in Peoria 4 hits, 0 runs, 0 walks.

O.city 06-09-2013 06:13 PM

And Votto was definitely off the bag last night.

It's a close call and possibly too close to call. Hard to argue with the all-around game or leadership of either player.

Probably so.

But, IMO, which of course being a Cardinals fan I would feel this way, but I don't think Posey is the defensive player Molina is. Not just catching, but the way he shuts down the running game and handles the staff.

O.city 06-09-2013 06:26 PM

1 hard hit ball and we are down already.

O.city 06-09-2013 06:48 PM

Also, I hate Arroyo.

Pepe Silvia 06-09-2013 06:54 PM

****, Carp almost tied it up.

Molina also handles a staff significantly better. It's not close. If I were choosing players this year, there isn't a single player in baseball I'd take over Yadier Molina. Even the advanced metrics can't do him adequate justice, as there aren't many tools out there to measure how well a pitcher handles a staff.

This isn't exactly new. Even though the Cardinals are the second most successful franchise in baseball history, many of their players are often overlooked.

A great comparison is to look at the media falling over themselves to fellate Puig after five games, then looks at what Pujols did his first 24 games as a Cardinal:

.370/.431/.739

8HR, 27 RBI

While playing four positions across the diamond.

'Hamas' Jenkins 06-09-2013 06:57 PM

We have hit three balls in this shitbox that they've caught right at the wall in the last two games.

Pepe Silvia 06-09-2013 06:58 PM

The only thing Posey can do better than Molina is the long ball, thats it. I know this might sound biased being a Cards fan but hes nowhere near the defensive catcher Yadi is.

Lynn having some control issues tonight.

He only missed his spot by about four inches there, and through two innings he'd thrown nine balls to 24 strikes.
