Too early? I thought we'd sailed past BME pain olympics a while back.

Ok then, a 4 year starter that didn't take his team very far
He's not aggressive and he is pretty soft.

Alex Smith is the champion of non-aggression and softness.

He's the softest of the soft.

Aaron Murray at least has a working backbone.

Mother****erJones 10-22-2015 10:02 AM

Aaron Murray couldn't be any worse and would cost only a mid round rookie contract whereas Smith is costing us a franchise rate.

Actually Smith's contract is about 15th in the NFL for QB's.

He really doesn't hit "franchise money" until 2016

I don't expect Alex Smith will ever see his 2017 and 2018 money which is almost HALF of the total value of his contract.

June 1st cut and we get $1 million added to our cap space.

His cap hit is pretty big if we cut him in 2016 iirc.

I believe a new regime would keep him around 1 more year even if they draft somebody.

according to over-the-cap

2016 pre june 1st cut: $24,900,000 dead money and $7,100,000 cap hit
2016 after june 1st cut: $17,700,000 dead money and $100,000 cap SAVINGS

2017 pre june 1st cut: $7,100,000 dead money and $9,700,000 cap savings
2017 after june 1st cut: $3,600,000 dead money and $13,300,000 cap savings

cap wise keeping him around a year with a QB draft pick makes way more sense
