I was 10 months old for the SB. I'm told I saw it, along with the moon landing.

On this board I think it may have been the majority.

Think about what it was like when they didn't make the playoffs for 15 years - after being the class of the AFL/AFC.

And the last playoff game was the longest game ever played, with the most inexplicable miss by the first HOF kicker in NFL history.

I can't even imagine.

I feel like I've seen that game as many times as my uncles have told me about it in excruciating detail. Rany's amazing piece in the ringer just reminded me of stuff I've heard from them.

Yep and it bought us the regrettable Frank Gansz era.

I think Gansz is a perfect example why players aren't always the best judges of coaching ability. Gansz was a very good Special Teams coach, but he also had group of players who were playing special teams.

But, Gansz also played a part in Peterson and Schottenheimer being hired. John Mackovic wasn't going to coach that team any better than he did that year, so going from him to Gansz probably didn't cost us any playoff appearances either.

Yeah everything plays a part in everything.

If Colin Kaepernick doesn't go balls out the last 6 games in 2012, we probably don't get Smiff in a trade. And then we probably go all in on a QB sooner and don't wind up with Mahomes. That hurts to even type.

I have thought about it from time to time. Can't even imagine what it'd be like during the late 70s and 80s to be a Chiefs fan.

I know this if it wasn't for drafting Patrick Mahomes II i was going give up being a fan of the NFL and not give a shit till Chiefs drafted a quarterback for reals.

So I'm a born again Chiefs Fan.

I've been more stoked than ever in my life about Chiefs football and life in general.

Steve Deberg.

No Mark Vlasic option? Or was it Elvis Vlasic? They’re all dead to me except DeBerg, Trent and Joe.

As a 10 year old boy, on Christmas day and the first of many heart breaks (that ends today), Lenny the cool quarterbacked the team that became my team of choice for the past 47 years.
Many of the QB's on that list have given me hope., none like the current gunslinger we currently have. I have hung my hat on great defenses when the QB didn't quite measure up. I truly believe an era of greatness is upon us.
So all my long suffering friends kick back and enjoy the ride. It's gonna be a doozy!

Deberg with the broken finger

TimeForWasp 01-20-2019 10:33 AM

Deberg, with my move to KC to work for Braniff airlines in 88 and the Nigerian Nightmare made me a fan for life. I liked Deberg because he was tough as nails playing with a cast on his finger. but Okoye left and Okoye right was the biggest draw for me.
