How? The chiefs in Sutton's years were on average the 14th ranked defense in opponent TOP and the 9th ranked defense in scoring defense. Chiefs are 3 games into a new DC/new scheme/& a lot of new players. Give it a minute. Sutton's defense ranked last or near last in almost all significant categories last year. Barring any significant injuries, the Chiefs defense will end the year better than last year's defense. The defense last year was awful but the defense in 2017 was ok and the ones before that were elite. Sutton has a better track record at DC than Spags actually. I understand that he got let go and support the move. But I'm not going to give Spags credit for the same shit I hated Sutton for. Hopefully we do get a lot better after players gel.

Some positions are less effected by scheme than others. A running back can step in and start playing much faster than a WR after changing schemes.

I would think that lining up at DE and chasing the QB would be simplified in many schemes. A 3-4 is more complicated but a 4-3 DE often lines up and just goes.
