SceneItAll Tournament: Round 1, Heat 80

The rules:

In Round 1, I'm going to put up three randomly selected scenes from the nomination thread.

You'll vote for your ONE favorite scene among the three. The key here is FAVORITE. We're not talking about the 'best' or 'most powerful' or 'most meaningful'. We're talking about the scene that you most enjoy watching, however you define that.

The winners will move on. I'll also take the 10 highest-scoring second-place scenes and they'll advance as wild cards.

Some of our nominations did not include clips. This will be noted. If you find a clip, please post it and let me know so I can update it if it moves on.

Hmm, tough one. My votes:

#1 - Slingblade. A couple of his lines cracked me up, both the "aim to kill" one and the "which numbers do you put in" one.

#2 - Masters of the Universe. A good sleeper scene. It was better than I expected. That little midget guy with the hair band hair and hooked hand kind of freaked me out, though.

#3 - The Natural. It's a nice scene, but it wasn't quite long enough for me to appreciate what was going on.

Doyle Hargraves played by Dwight Yoakam in Slingblade is one of my alltime favorite characters from any movie. Same with the role John Ritter played. Their interactions were so similar to stuff I saw growing up in KCK. Highly recommend the movie to anyone that hasn't seen it, except KCNative. He should watch Blood in, Blood out...Bound by Honor. :D

That Slingblade scene is very good. That whole movie is good. I agree with Dallas Chief about Dwight Yoakam. He was wonderful in that movie.

Also, Rain Man voted for a murder scene. Is that a first?

A couple rounds ago he voted for the Bonnie and Clyde shootout/death scene.
I think the key here is that we couldn't actually see blood or brain matter. He seems to be more squeamish than anything.

The sound of the murder was kind of gruesome. But it was offset by the humor of the lines preceding the murder. So in my mental scoring system, we have...

Positives

Eccentric people
Humorous lines that are unexpected
Murder off camera
Murderer seems more likable than victim

Negatives

Weird sound of lawnmower blade chopping through skull
Implied gruesomeness

Overall, it's a win.

I was inb4 & I was like Boom Ch Ka

That all makes sense. I figured it was the lack of blood...and I knew it being off camera had to help.

Slingblade running away with this heat. I like it.

Slingblade is one of my top 10 all timers... glad to see it kickin butt.

cosmo20002 03-08-2014 10:07 PM

Sling Blade is way overrated as a movie.

Rain Man 03-08-2014 10:26 PM

I've never seen Slingblade. But that probably doesn't surprise anyone.
