Mock draft.

I expect the Chiefs will sign Albert during the season and tag Bowe again.

Like I did with Brandon Carr, I will continue to assume we will let Dorsey walk. I also anticipate us letting Peyton Hillis walk and we'll resign Brady Quinn to a one-year deal for a rematch against Stanzi and whomever we draft in 2013. Belcher and Siler will both walk. But thumper ILBs aren't too hard to find in free agency. Neither are bigger RBs like Hillis.

Shaun Smith is signed in free agency. Lucas Patterson is kept as a reserve. Travis Daniels kept on as a safety.

The Chiefs try out Poe at DE, and start Powe at the nose.

The Chiefs finish 9-7, and miss the playoffs. They will be picking at #17.

1. QB Aaron Murray, Georgia

A smart, heady QB in a pro-style offense.

2. CB DeMarcus Milliner, Alabama

A big-sized CB from a school Pioli loves. Much needed CB depth with starter upside: check.

3. OLB Damontre Moore, Texas A&M

Some much needed lightning-fast speed that can finally provide Hali and Houston breathers.

4. NT Kwame Geathers, Georgia

In favor of his teammate, Geathers falls a bit, Cam Thomas style, to the fourth round. The Chiefs need even more size in the trenches.

5. ILB Bruce Taylor, West Virginia

Taylor is a load at the line of scrimmage, one of those classic thumper types that missles into lineman and fullbacks. Could be a perfect thumper.

6. FS Jarred Holley, Pittsburgh

The Chiefs desperately need a smart, athletic overachiever to play centerfield behind Kendrick Lewis.

7. FB Trey Burton, Florida

A jack-of-all-trades FB who needs to learn to block a bit better, but has all the versatility the Chiefs clearly want from the position.

Not to poke holes, but there is no way Geathers falls to the fourth bro.

People said the same thing about Cam Thomas, Jerrell Powe, etc.

I just don't see it. He has established himself in the SEC. I have him as a late-first, early second currently.

Sign Shaun Smith? Really?

There is no way they let Belcher walk.

No way that Hillis gets out of Kansas City without a new three year deal.

And Aaron Murray isn't in the same class as guys like Lance Jones and I personally think he's not even remotely close to a guy like Geno Smith, who is my third favorite QB in this next draft behind Barkley and Jones.

Besides, I doubt he comes out this next year anyway.

Where the hell do you guys come up with this shit? When does pioli ever extend his one year experiments? Plus, hillis is only here to prove himself to other teams.

Three years? What an out there prediction.

And why isn't Hillis here to prove himself to this team?

He could have signed with a number of teams, considering that it was only two seasons ago that he was the best running back in football with a season that netted him the Madden cover.

It's a run based offense that has a legit drive blocking right tackle. Cassel is a dump down QB who is going to find Hillis a lot this season. It's a perfect place for Hillis to be, and I don't see how the Chiefs let him walk after a single season.

I don't see Geathers lasting that long, UGA is going to be a high, high, high profile D this year. Maybe top 3-5 in the whole country.

I might climb an AIDS tree and drink some antifreeze if we go into next season with Cassel, Quinn and Stanzi again.

Bewbies 08-29-2012 07:01 PM

Oh, and Aaron Murray isn't 6'0, he's not going in round 1.

Everywhere I've seen has Murray listed at 6'1. Additionally, the success of Russell Wilson will definitely alleviate the height concerns IMO.

If Murray is even 6'0", I'll be surprised. And like I said, he's not Russel Wilson. Wilson had "it" in terms of leadership intangibles and vision that set him apart, and it still remains to be seen if he's even successful in the NFL. Give credit to the Seahawks for giving him the keys based on his ballsy pre-season play, but name the under 6'0" quarterbacks since Tarkenton that have had success in this league. There aren't many.

Bewbies 09-03-2012 03:55 PM

Murray is the streakiest QB I've ever watched. When he's on, he's great, but when he's off he's terrible.

If he (1) leaves this year or (2) gets drafted in the first round I'd be shocked. And I'm a huge UGA fan.

Sorter 09-04-2012 12:07 AM

^^^This. When Murray performs to his highest level, he is without question right up there with Barkley and Wilson IMO. However, he has several lapses in judgement that are bad.

Per evaluation, you'd have to decide if you think you can make him eliminate those mistakes and perform at an even higher level. I certainly think that KC could. I think he is for sure a 1st round pick in 2014. Definitely won't be coming out this year.
