3. People who are always looking for a reason to get offended, because they take themselves too seriously..

And on and on... it's all rooted in the same thing... people on message boards tend to take themselves too seriously.

seriously

I don't think that's true at all, just for the record.

As for the broader concept of n00bs being "hazed," I do think that's true to some extent. However, my view is that the issue is almost as much an issue with n00bs who decide to come in and assume the culture of many thousands of users should conform to their style rather than laying back and getting to know the place before shitting all over it. BlackBob comes to mind...

Dumbasses that believe they are teh cool.

I like CP just the way it is....it has kind of a "only the strong survive" mentality to it....which, when you think about it, is a metaphor for being a chiefs fan.

There are a handful of sage responses to this topic, yours covers a few with which I tend to agree.

I am probably one of the oldest (born 1944) members here, been aboard since year one yet due to the fact that I have an incredibly low number of posts, see a lot of sophomoric ridicule when writing here.

It's nothing more than the "my chocolate tastes better than yours" idiom when posting an opinion. Those who have thin hides do not do well here. The best feature is "ignore", a feature that I use quite often on keyboard gunslingers that live vicariously here. This is especially true with threads comparing manhood claims or the color of dump they made that morning.

I have followed the chiefs since their first game in KC. There have be such atrocious seasons, but none sinking to the depth of this season. The CP soundboard this year is so caustic that sometimes it bends sanity just to read some of the threads. Years ago, I wrote my opinion of the franchise failures lay directly at the foot of the owner(s). Very few agreed. Now it is a hot topic. Football tradition is lost with he Hunt family, perhaps it was never there.

But for all this, I still bleed as much as any fan. I stopped questioning why I still followed this team and even in this rock bottom world of football still follow this team. Seems silly but then again I enjoy rope burns, root canals and an occasional sharp stick in the eye.

Back to lurking. . .

Negative: Veteran posters get away with more bullshit than new ones do. I've never had a problem with it, but I've seen new posters with promise who are unneedingly ridiculed and end up never posting again. Likewise, I've seen veteran (or new but frequent) posters get away with saying some pretty stupid shit solely on the merit of their post count. Ultimately, I see this as a net-negative in the long-term health and growth of the community as a whole.

Positive: The moderation is awfully fair (although reasonable), and there are a lot of interesting topics and opinions that are allowed around here. If people are interesting in discussing it, the topic will stand. IMO, that's what makes this such a highly frequented forum. There's always something to talk about, and there's always someone to hold you accountable to what you say. To someone like me, this is a superior news site than many of the professional sources.

Yep. I read twitter from time to time and it's always idiots on there tweeting every single celebrity saying "can i get a RT?!?! pretty please!!!" It's pathetic as all hell

To the victor, go the spoils. You don't do what you have done without knowing how to manage your life habits. Holiday splurges are merely a blip on the screen.

Seriously, well done!

Parody threads. They almost always suck.

I don't have too many complaints, other than the occasional hypocrisy. Some members launch verbal assaults on other members and then tell the target(s) that they need to have thicker skin when they get upset. Some of those very people, though, completely melt down when their opinions/posts are scrutinized or come under criticism.

I'm not one for confrontation in life, or on a message board...but I do see it happen on here quite often. There have been a lot of new posters as of late with the SOC pulling a lot of attention (Something that, IMO, we should all welcome with open arms) but a lot of the regulars seem to be completely turning these people away by ignoring and degrading their opinions before they've even had a chance to get to know the lay of the land here at CP. I think that we need to collectively remember that we're all here for the same reason and that some people are better at conveying their thoughts and opinions than others are. We don't need to play grammar police or act like Rudolf Hess just because someone is a "n00b". Give these people a chance, and they may turn into solid contributors.

Other than that...LOVE CP!

ARE YOU NOT ENTERTAINED?!?!?

ChiTown 12-27-2012 10:44 AM

AS far as the topic is concerned, I like this place. In the last 3-4 years, I have had a much smaller presence on CP. But that's the beauty of it all. You don't have to be here everyday to participate on this board. You can take days, weeks, months, even years and come back to participate among a community of "friends".

I really don't have any complaints, other than, lately, our off-season threads start way too early during the regular season.:D
